Even though it's too early to officially declare it... The Jamarcus Russle Contract could very well show up on this list in a year or two. I agree Along with Alexei Yashin's 10 years contract with the Islanders, DiPietro's 15 years contract with....the Islanders and Soriano's contract with the Cubs.

Isiah Thomas outside the basketball court is a complete failure. Remember the CBA that minor basketball league that had been around before the NBA? He drove that historic league into bankruptcy. And nevermind his GM "achievements" at Toronto and New York, and questionable coaching at Indiana and the Knicks. I feel bad for FIU. Amen. For a local standpoint, I would have to nominate the contract extention that the Indiana Pacers gave to Jamaal Tinsley. I don't know the exact numbers to the deal, but I felt it was overinflated To make matters worse, also around that time, the Pacers did that infamous trade with Golden State where they traded their "problems" for four average players. My problem was that, perhaps, the best player in terms of standing was the one treated mostly as an afterthought (Keith McLeod). This wouldn't have been bad upon itself, but the guys we brought in essentially had bloated contracts, as well. I can't argue about the Milton Bradley contract for the Cubs. No wonder they're bankrupt.

I'd just like to mention, I didn't notice that H-Fist had already mentioned Wells. But seriously, that deal deserves to be mentioned over and over. What a horrible deal 100% agreed. At least moving Rios gave us a little bit of breathing room with our payroll, but considering how Wells has performed with a contract that huge? We got boned on that one.

Derek Bell with the Pirates, two-year, $9.75 million contract . Operation Shutdown...enough said. Seconded. He was the first person that popped into my mind as well. If I may quote, of all people, Mark Madden: "Derek Bell becomes the ultimate Pirate: Lives on a boat and steals money."

The Mike Hampton contract has to be up there, 8 years for 131 million. If you want to look at it, The Michael Vick contract with the Falcons didn't work out so well...

Well, the little douche that the Lions have at qb got paid 150 million to throw interception after interception to the freaking Rams. Are you talking about Stafford? He's only in his first year! Pedro Martinez with the Mets I kinda disagree with this. He was good in 2005 plus they needed a frontline starter and we needed to throw the 4th year on because Boston was going to trump our offer plus a trade for Manny had fallen through to try and make up for the possible "not getting a pitcher" scenario. Vernon Wells- 7 years, $126 Million. Not only is it an insanely overpriced contract, it's freakin' BACK loaded!!!! We're never movin' this bastard The Bobby Bonilla of this generation. Speaking of that, add that moronic move by the Mets too. We're still paying that moron for like another ten years.

At least the Falcons sold a crapton of tickets and went to the NFC title game for only the second time ever while he was there. Post-dogfighting allegations, the contract was worthless.

I can't argue about the Milton Bradley contract for the Cubs. No wonder they're bankrupt. The Cubs were never bankrupt. The previous owner, Sam Zell's Tribune Corp., was and still badly is. The Cubs had to declare bankruptcy as a subsidiary so that the Tribune's creditors and the bankruptcy court would approve the sale. The Ricketts family, the Cubs front office, and MLB owners couldn't move ahead with anything until the bankruptcy judge rendered a decision. The fundamental problem with Bradley was that GM Jim Hendry outbid himself with that $30 million total - no one else would go over $5-6 million per year, and no one outside the AL would want him because he struggled to stay healthy on the field. He could have sadly been an ass all he wanted if he put up .330/.440/.850+/20/100 like Hendry (and no one else) expected. The Cubs overall have the problem of backloaded contracts. Zambrano, Dempster, Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Fukudome and Bradley are all back-loaded. Lee comes off after 2010, but he is the one guy who is most difficult to replace.

Mike Hampton - The Colorado Rockies signed Hampton to an expensive, long-term contract on December 9, 2000. It was the largest contract in sports history at the time. The contract is currently the 25th largest in the history of sports. He had an ERA of 5.53 with Colorado with a 21-28 record before being dealt to Atlanta where he got injured every few weeks.

Gotta agree with Povano-Yankees ("I'm an awesome pitcher guys, though you'll never be able to use me because I'll always be hurt!") and Wells-Blue Jays. Alfonso Soriano....."ill be alright during spring, amazing during the summer, and do nothing once october rolls arround...give me an 8 year 136 million deal baby!" At the time, I was pissed that the Yankees traded Soriano to the Rangers for Alex Rodriguez. I thought that was kind of a bad deal especially with how A-Rod was a prima donna and a postseason choke artist during his first years in the team. But A-Rod really turned it around and became a team player, and Soriano just got a lot worse. So now I'm glad we got rid of his ass.

Karmichal Hunts contract with the new Gold Coast AFL team. He's making money that the very top tier players make (being 1 million Australian a year for four years) and we haven't even seen him play a match.
I swear; The AFL must have only supported it to give the finger to the NRL.

Vernon Wells getting that particular contract was insane. That's max contract, right? Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Howard, Duncan? Sure, I could be talked into buying them as deserving that, but not Wells. That's even more insane than the ridiculous contract Glenn Robinson got as a rookie, and that was pretty bad. Shaq was the closest thing to a rookie that would have been worth that much out of the gate. It is no wonder they put a rookie cap immediately afterwards.
I would nominate any contract that Isiah negotiated for the Knicks (or that of anyone that he traded for). Not to say that none of those players are worth a damn, but none of them were worth the money that he had to throw at them to get them to willing join the team.
