Rick DiPetro for New York Islanders - 15 years/$67.5 million
To be fair, after signing that he was actually starting to show arguably that maybe he was worth it. Made the All-Star team (started) in 2008, got the franchise saves record with 55. Then he gets injured. And injured. And injured again. The surgeries and games missed are counting up, so I wonder this contract a flop so far.
WWE Raw for TNN - 5 years/$100 million
I might be incorrect with the $$$ figure, but thats my memory. Anyway it seemed slick for TNN in 2000 to score WWE when it was very hot with the public. By 2002 this had cooled off and so basically TNN/Spike TV got stuck with an expensive bloated property that brought in fans...but not the high demographic numbers Raw had been bringing in during the Monday Night Wars.

Whatever the Blazers offered Darius Miles. From wikipeida: Under NBA rules, if a team is granted salary-cap relief for a career-ending injury to a player and that player subsequently participates in at least ten games the next season the salary cap relief is terminated and the amount of relief granted is added back to the team's salary cap ceiling.
On January 8, 2009, after Miles had played six pre 2008-2009-season games with the Celtics and two before being released from a non-guaranteed contract by the Grizzlies, the Portland Trail Blazers threatened to sue any of the other 29 NBA teams that picked up Miles and played him specifically to adversely impact their salary cap and tax positions.[16] In response, the NBA players' association threatened to file a grievance against the Trail Blazers.[17]
After a specific directive from the NBA Commissioner's office the next day declaring that any team could sign Miles and the League would approve the contract,[18] the Memphis Grizzlies re-signed Miles on January 10, 2009, to a 10-day non-guaranteed contract. Subsequently Miles played the two games necessary to trigger the $18 million owed to him by Portland for the 2008–09 and 2009–10 seasons being re-added to Portland's cap amount.
----------------------------- Wow, total FAIL.

Jerome James contract with the Knicks.
Or was it the Sonics?
I don't remember who originally gave him that ludicrous deal. But it seems like a Knick thing to do.

Isiah Thomas outside the basketball court is a complete failure.
Remember the CBA that minor basketball league that had been around before the NBA? He drove that historic league into bankruptcy. And nevermind his GM "achievements" at Toronto and New York, and questionable coaching at Indiana and the Knicks.
I feel bad for FIU.

Jerome James contract with the Knicks. Or was it the Sonics? I don't remember who originally gave him that ludicrous deal. But it seems like a Knick thing to do. Knicks fans have my Kings to thank for that. Jerome James tore the Kings apart in the playoffs in his contract year which inspired Isiah Thomas to give him that deal. My pick is ELTON BRAND. 5 years $82 million is currently the worst contract in the NBA. He is 30 years old. Coming off surgery that has cut careers short and he averages 9 points 5 rebounds. Last year, the Sixers were a losing team with him and a winning team without him. I bet the Clippers are relieved that Brand screwed them.

----------------------------- Wow, total FAIL.That's not the half of it. When the Blazers signed him in 2004 they were still going through the "Jail Blazers" debacle and Miles was already a notorious head case by this point. And on top of that the Blazers offered him a huge amount of money (it was more than $18, that's just how much was left when he went to Boston) to come out on top in a bidding war with..............NOBODY! No other team showed any interest in the guy. Then they acted surprised when he not only turned out to be a bust but of questionable moral fiber. Paul Allen, owner of the decade.

Derek Bell with the Pirates, two-year, $9.75 million contract . Operation Shutdown...enough said.
Joe Randa with the Pirates in 2006, one-year $4 million contract. It's funny in 1997, he was one of the best signings the Pirates made. Funny how much can change in a decade.

Even though it's too early to officially declare it...
The Jamarcus Russle Contract could very well show up on this list in a year or two.
