Vernon Wells getting that particular contract was insane. That's max contract, right? Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Howard, Duncan? Sure, I could be talked into buying them as deserving that, but not Wells. That's even more insane than the ridiculous contract Glenn Robinson got as a rookie, and that was pretty bad. Shaq was the closest thing to a rookie that would have been worth that much out of the gate. It is no wonder they put a rookie cap immediately afterwards. I would nominate any contract that Isiah negotiated for the Knicks (or that of anyone that he traded for). Not to say that none of those players are worth a damn, but none of them were worth the money that he had to throw at them to get them to willing join the team. There's no such thing as a max contract in baseball ;D I know where I went wrong. I don't follow baseball at all anymore (or basketball for that matter), so I confused him with Bonzi Wells, which as far as I know would have been a horrible injustice. As far as baseball goes, I seem to remember A-Rod getting a $200 Mil contract, which is insane. Granted, it is nowhere as insane as some of the quotes that Michael Schumacher got paid back in the day. If the reports were correct, he could have afforded to buy his own 3rd world dictator.

Bobby Holik. In what way is he worth 9 million? f***ing Rangers causing the lockout From what I recall the Devils offered 8.75 M but Holik was still bitter about the arbitration, and really really wanted 9 a year. But yes, most and practically all of the contracts the Rangers threw out during the mid to late 90's through today, were just awful.

The Mike Hampton contract has to be up there, 8 years for 131 million. If you want to look at it, The Michael Vick contract with the Falcons didn't work out so well... Can't blame the Falcons at all for that one. Vick was one of the most hyped players to come into the NFL in years(at the time), and if the Falcons hadn't have gotten him, every other team with a good, solid QB would have given him a similar deal. Signing an injury prone guy to a huge, long deal is dumb. The Falcons just got unlucky.

Throw in another vote for Vernon Wells. To sum up Wells as a player right now:
- Can't hit for average - Can't get on base - Horrible defensive CF - Will be 31 to start the season
And he's due $98.5M over the next five seasons.

The Redskins, beyond their usual spending sprees that garner no results: Paying for Brandon Lloyd. Geez, I wouldn't even put him ahead of Adam Archuleta. Maybe Snyder figured the NFL was going to add "player who can do the most lifting-himself-up-by-his-calves reps" as a tiebreaker?

Can I argue against the DiPietro signing? It seems like every young goalie who has shown some promise is signed to a 6 million or more a year deal. DiPietro is still young, still has a lot of years on the contract to show something, and with how well the Isles are doing this season if he returns to form he might be the key to making them a constant playoff team.
What should be there is the 10 year deal Yashin got. We are paying him 2.5 Million a year until 2012. Meanwhile the Islanders are currently losing 4-5 Million a year. And since we bought him out, even if he retires we still have to pay off his contract. Plus Yashin already had a history of chocking in the playoffs and being an egomaniac.

In an informal poll of GM's recently, he was unanimously voted the hardest contract to trade with numerous GM's flat out saying that he's unmovable, and the only way he ever plays else where is if he gets bought out. Someone care to remind me why it took this long for JP Riccardi to get fired again?

Might want to throw David Beckham and his humongoid multi million dollar deal to not play and bring zero people to the gate for American soccer.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the deferred part. Just thinking about that still makes me mad. what ever we dodged a bullet definitely, nothing beats watching the Devils winning their 3rd Stanley Cup. But I digress, Jaromir Jagr's 7 year 77 million dollar contract Bill Guerin's 8 million dollars a year contract Jonh LeClair's 9 million Dollars a year contract

The Redskins, beyond their usual spending sprees that garner no results: Paying for Brandon Lloyd. I could see how exactly that went down. Snyder was watching SportsCenter and sees the highlights of Lloyd's circus catches when he grabbed his phone and told the GM "SIGN THAT GUY NOW!" before looking at his stats and discovering he was a mediocre to poor WR at best and just had a string of crazy catches. A couple of bad Philly contracts: Reggie Brown - Got the Banner extension after a great 2006. Then he couldn't beat out Hank freaking Baskett and a gimpy Kevin Curtis for playing time. Not to mention, he can't play special teams. But the way his contract is structured they can't cut him without taking a couple million dollar hit and they can't trade him because the team would still be on the hook. So they pay him a few million just to sit on the bench (although there was a sighting this week). Adam Eaton - 3 years, $24 Million. In two years he posted a 14-18 Record with an ERA over 6 and batters averaging over .300 against him. It was so bad they bought out the remaining $9M on his contract rather than hold on to him. And yet, he has a World Series ring even though the most he did was probably get Rich Dubee a cup of coffee. Elton Brand - Already mentioned. Promising young team is going to be tied down with that one. Freddie Garcia - Even $5 would have been too much for a guy who's arm was completely shredded before the ink was dry.

Ken Griffey Jr. with the Cincinnati Reds for 116.5 million over ten years and he only played for about five or six.

Might want to throw David Beckham and his humongoid multi million dollar deal to not play and bring zero people to the gate for American soccer. They were hoping for a Pele-type response. Problem was, Pele was a tremendous talent to watch. He could do crazy stuff that few could. Beckham is a good football player, but nothing flashy or remarkable or special. He's mostly famous for being famous. Still his team made the MLS cup. Which will be played* this sunday. *=Endorsement paid for by ESPN.
