This happens a lot with derbies. Burnley nearly always lose to Preston at Deepdale yet usually win at Turf Moor. And nearly always lose to Blackburn- weh aven't beaten them in a league derby in god knows how long, well over 10 years. Speaking of Portsmouth, what the hell happened with them yesterday? Been utterly awful all season yet whip Wigan 4-0. Yes but Tottenham nearly always lose to Arsenal at the Emirates/Highbury and nearly always lose to Arsenal at White Hart Lane. This is something like 23 games in a row that Arsenal have gone unbeaten and for the last 10 years they have been in the same division. I imagine Burnley and Blackburn have been in the same league twice in ten years? So it's not really the same. As for Portsmouth, yeah a big shock that. Apparantly they have been playing well all season and just not getting the breaks but still to beat what looks like a decent Wigan team is a suprise. Hrm Maybe I should have clairifed- I meant to sya in all competitions. I don't think we've beaten Blackburn in the league for around 30-35 years, of which we've shared around 15 seasons. We might not even have beaten them in the Cup for that long, I honestly can't remember but I know it's a long long time.

Well that was a hard-fought victory if I've ever seen one. Quite a feisty game as well which I thoroughly enjoyed ;D even though there wasn't a lot of quality on show.
For the first time, probably ever, I thought Andy Carroll was outstanding some of the headers he won were phenomenal and he just looked REALLY up for the fight.
Steve Harper is class, I honestly believe if we were playing in the PL this year or he was at a PL team he'd be in with a serious shout for going to the World Cup next year.

What a load of rubbish. The problem lies in their unbalanced midfield which is down to injuries. That so called inferior team finished above an Arsenal side that had a chance to recruit in January last season. Let's also not forget that Torres and Gerrard were missing for more than three months combined. You're just repeating the usual biased tabloid drivel that's always unfairly directed at Liverpool.
A year ago Arsene Wenger (you know the guy who hasn't won a trophy in about roughly FIVE years) would've been complaining about same thing. He has a much smoother job than Benitez seeing as Arsenal are nowhere near the size of Liverpool and there is less negative pressure. Injuries hurt teams and Liverpool have 12 doubtful players for the match against Lyon.

He has a much smoother job than Benitez seeing as Arsenal are nowhere near the size of Liverpool and there is less negative pressure. Injuries hurt teams and Liverpool have 12 doubtful players for the match against Lyon. I think Torres going off was a major reason for why Fulham won. Torres has that aura and that fear factor which means you know that at any given second he can produce a bit of magic and Bang your are a goal down so as the opposition team you have to be a little cautious. That is how good he is and believe me I don't like admitting that. Last week Utd looked relatively comfortable, albeit Liverpool were the better team even at that point, and then out of nowhere he scored a great goal. Therefore when he went off Fulham looked at what was left and fancied their chances. Ignoring the fact that I don't think Liverpool have enough quality anyway the fact is these players are desperately low on confidence so Fulham knew they were there for the taking. You are right though about the midfield being the major problem. I said at the time losing Alonso would be the fatal blow to your title hopes and I look to be right. I also agree about Wenger getting an easy ride from the media. Fergie isn't allowed to go a season without a trophy without the media predicting his demise. Saying all that hasn't Benitez roughly gone 4 YEARS without a trophy? People in glass houses and all that.

Bad news for us, Gael Clichy is suffering with a back injury and could be out for several weeks.
On the plus side Kieran Gibbs will get a few games now, I thought he was outstanding against Liverpool last week and he seems to be growing into the left back role well.
Just as long as he doesn't slip over at inappropriate moments again, we'll be alright....

Wenger owned Joe Cole in his press conference today - yesterday Cole said that Chelsea need to win the Champions League to be an elite club; today Wenger said that Arsenal, despite not having won the Champions League, are an elite club because they're constantly in the top seeds and have been in it for 12 years running (only Manchester United better it), Chelsea only for 7 years.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was taken to South Africa as England's backup left back.

A once in a lifetime moment just took place - the referee didn't give a nailed on penalty for Manchester United at Old Trafford, and booked Fletcher for diving when in fact he was taken out. Still chuckled quite a lot at that...

Here's an interesting photo showing Stephen Hunt clearly tugging on Tyrone Mears' shirt. Mears is offbalanced, Hunt's got tight hold. This photo doesn't prove that Hunt was gripping before the air shot, however there's 2 other factors: He's got a tight grip so presumably hasn't just applied it, and more importantly bearing in mind I earlier posted a photo showing Hunt's arm in contact with Mears BEFORE the "air-shot", I think it's fair to say Hunt was tugging him before and up until Mears fell, and as such it was a penalty.

Oh and 1 more thing- I hate a small amount of my fellow Burnley fans more and more by the day.
Coyle quite rightly defended 2 of our players- Alexander & Jensen- who have been recieving utterly absurd amounts of critiscism after 1 poor performance each.
What happens? A surprising number of so-called Burnley fans start on that the wins are irrelevant because the performances were, in their view, poor (they were anything but poor) and must do better, that 1 if not 2 of the regulars are nowhere near Premiership and that other near-youth-players should get a chance, that Coyle is stubborn to refuse to change tactics, that Coyle is arrogant for critiscising the media and fans' unwarranted slating of 2 players, that if Coyle had followed their tactics the 2-0 Hull win would've been 3 or 4 with no refereeing incidents, and all manner of other crap.
I think there is no pleasing some Burnley fans. Coyle truly is a god to Burnley football club yet there appears to be a small, vocal, and oddly enough, only appeared since promotion, minority of fans who villify Coyle and feel he's getting it wrong even when we're winning. He is working utter wonders at the moment and has been for over a year and these idiots are ripping into our players for no reason at any chance.

Man Utd. Do any football team ever get more luck? That was going at least 5 yards wide.

Crazy night in the Champions League, Chelsea and United both qualify but neither win tonight, one is denied a last gasp victory the other saved from defeat.
Also looks like Bayern Munich will be going out if they don't win their last two games and Bordeaux have qualified for the 2nd Round as have Porto.

Bordeaux have done very well to qualify from the Bayern Munich and Juventus group - looks very likely that Bayern are heading to the Europa League.

He's only scored one goal - the second one tonight in Munich.

Man Utd. Do any football team ever get more luck? That was going at least 5 yards wide. So we had a stonewall penalty denied but we were lucky? How does that work? Anyway I was there tonight. What a fantastic game, one of those where I admired the Russians for coming and attacking us even though it left us 3 - 1 down. It made for a great game and the last 10 or 12 minutes were electric. So qualification done and dusted and once again we show that never say die spirit that has seen us dominate English football for nearly 20 years. Lovely.

Are you writing off Aquilani?
You are correct in saying there is no strength in depth, but that's not necessarily the manager's fault. The owners have failed to put the money (or loaned money) in at least the last four windows and a decline is only going to be natural then. Still think however a fully fit Liverpool first eleven is better than United's.
