How in the hell is this damned Leach story the top news story, not sports story but, straight news? Leach would have been gone sooner rather than later given his attitude so meh.

Nebraska is killing Arizona right now.
The PAC-10 isn't looking too good this bowl season.

Where has this Nebraska offense been all season? Did someone replace Zach Lee with a robot duplicate that can actually play quarterback?
Not that I'm complaining at all, I'm just shocked we're killing someone 33-0!

I wonder how much gum Bo goes through in a season. He could be the next spokesperson for Stride chewing gum. Then when they try to make him spit it out, Ndamukong Suh could come in and sack a guy.

Congrats to Nebraska. They should be a force next year.

33-0. I believe the order is restored. All thanks to Bo.
9-4 in his first year. 10-4 in his second year.
Could we see an 11 win season next year?

This Urban Meyer stuff is scary, IMO. More that comes out, the more I wish the man would just retire.

I have remained silent during this whole Leach fiasco and I finally have something to say.
As someone who has had to deal with a family member who suffered a concussion (my brother suffered two of them) and with all of the sensitive information coming out about concussions (and how it can screw you up for life), what Mike Leach did was deplorable and was really meant to embarrass the kid. When you may have screwed a kid up for life, you do not (I repeat NOT) be as unapologetic as this jerk is. He deserves everything he gets and he deserves to be sued to the full extent by the family.
He may have been a great coach, but Hines Ward learned that you have to be careful what you do and say about concussions. You don't question a man's toughness when dealing with a concussion. To defend a man who doesnt care what happens the people who he has been trusted to take care of (before winning games, mind you), is just showing ignorance at what happened.

Make me a deal. If you take Leach, take Taylor "I throw 5+ interceptions a game, but still get 1st string starter" Potts. We'll take them both if you take Zach Lee and a ham sandwich. We'll negotiate the ham sandwich, but Zack Lee isn't part of the deal. Maybe talk 10 baseball bats and some baseballs, and we'll close the deal. Anyway, a local news source in Lubbock did a quick look at the rooms in question. www.kcbd.com/global/video/flash/popupplayer.asp?vt1=v&clipFormat=flv&clipId1=4421239&at1=News&h1=EXCLUSIVE&rnd=46754057Yeah. I'm really starting to hate this kid. His fellow teammates are saying he has no hustle, and cries to his helicopter ESPN-analyst father over, quite frankly, nothing.

It doesn't help that ESPN is constantly bombarding Leach whenever he comes up. They mention that former players are standing up for him, yet they show a negative quote from a current player. During the halftime of the Nebraska/Arizona game, Mark May completely blasted him as well. On the issue in general, I'm trying to stay indifferent, but I'm siding more with Leach on this one. He probably could've handled this situation and its aftermath better, but at the end of the day, concussions are a very tricky issue, because we don't know how serious the player's concussion may have been. And with all the concussion developments that have been developing over the last few months, Leach was being protective, which is absolutely the right call. Having seen the rooms the player was held in, they aren't as small as you would think, and it sounds as though the player wasn't forced to be there either. It seems as though the player just got upset that Leach was being protective, told his dad who works at ESPN, and had this whole situation started. Again though, that's what I picked up from this. Maybe there's something that I'm missing, maybe there isn't. But I've done a few research papers on concussions. I know how bad they can get. It just sounds to me that Leach was trying to protect his player.

And yet on the other hand, he was also helping save the kid's freaking life by putting him in a shed designed in a way that it could help people who had a concussion. Dealing with players with concussions is a delicate situation. No way in HELL is a coach ever going to come out of it looking like the good guy. He's either the bad guy for making the player sit out and rest and, you know, get healthy so he can continue playing. Or he's the bad guy for allowing the player to continue playing with a concussion, and said player thus has a higher chance of getting another concussion, and said second concussion could end their football career or even, if the worst happened, kill them. Personally, the kid in question is just being a whiny little brat who can't see that in the end, his coach was doing the best thing possible for him, trying to keep him healthy, keep his football career intact, and most of all, keep him alive. If anything, if anything, this situation has backfired on the kid. I doubt any of his teammates will want to play with him now, and how many NFL teams would want to pick him up now? He's now going to be known as a bitching and whining player who goes running to daddy when things aren't going his way. Now, did Leach handle the situation well? f*** NO. Leach is a loose cannon. In the end, both sides acted like asses.

I don't care how good or bad of a coach Leach is or how nice of a guy he is, my issue with the situation with how fishy everything has been, from the dad being an analyst for the most powerful sports media outlet in the country to the contract strife to how blazingly fast the investigation concluded (just in time to coincide with him not getting the hefty bonus he would have gotten if he was there an extra day) to former players coming out and saying he was sent to a place they went voluntarily to get out of the sun, which is what you're supposed to do with a concussion. From what I read, this wasn't some cage dangling over the field. Yeah, it was dark and colder and he put a trainer in there with him, but, frankly, it looks far more like this kid and his dad have been using the media connections to play it up and Tech took that and fired him so they could get out of their contract ala Mangino. It was hardly deplorable to have a player with a concussion nearby but not participating (and I say this as someone who also has taken care of people with concussions). That said, no one is arguing that Leach is nice or coddled the boy. But the deplorable, callous actions look more and more exaggerated when I look at it. The absolute worst thing Leach could have done was put him back on the field, which was standard practice until quite recently. Sending him to a shed out of the sun is far down the list.

Koda, I would like to state that the kid was forced to stand. Oh yeah, and the Texas Tech center already came out in support of the kid. More are standing up for the kid and have said that the coach was wrong.
Hawk, this all started because the kid had a camera phone with him and showed on Youtube where he was being sent. And as far as the trainer goes, in the video.....there is obviously no trainer in the room with him. Also last I checked, being in a dark and cold situation is just as bad as being in hot sunlight.
Texas Tech fired Leach because he would not admit that he was wrong and continued to fight the suspension. He could have done what was asked, but he decided to be an ass and try to get out of punishment for mishandling a kid's concussion.

Also, you need to be out of the sunlight.

Why would he have one?

As RX said, it is medically known that one of the best things to do if you have a concussion is to stand up. It also helps to stay out of the sunlight. In other words, Leach was making the kid do what DOCTORS make people do.

Why would he even have his phone on him for practice. Even if he was not going to be doing anything. Why would he have one? All the friends that I know that have played football either on a high school or college level have all said the same thing, they were all required to leave their cellphones in the locker room if they had their phone. This is just a fishy situation.

Not under constant surveillance, but hardly locked in a broom closet with no one around. For the firing, you think the fact that he had had bitter contract negotiations the year before and was due a big bonus if he was coach the next day had nothing to do with him being fired? Leach may be abrasive, a loose cannon, an ass, and rude, but no investigation is over in that short of time frame. His firing had ulterior motives, this incident just made a nice cover.
