Brock Lesnar is in extremely bad shape and there are questions as to whether he will ever fight again. Lesnar, 32, is in far worse shape than he has been letting on. He went to Canada last week to try to get some rest, collapsed, and was rushed to the hospital. He has mono and also something else that he doesn't want to get out, and all we now is that he does not have cancer and he does not have AIDS. It is, however, extremely serious and he will not be fighting again for a long, long time, if he is able to fight again.
Dana White is heading to Minnesota tonight and will be working to get Lesnar to the Mayo Clinic or equivalent medical facility for treatment.
Also, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has a staph infection and his fight with Cain Velasquez at UFC 108 is off. Nogueira will need an IV to hopefully get the infection out. He is also in bad shape.
With Lesnar out indefinitely, Shane Carwin will be undergoing knee surgery, so he will not be available to face Velasquez at UFC 108.
We can also report that Shane McMahon had a meeting at the UFC offices recently. Dana White, when asked for more information, responded, "No comment."
We will try to have more late tonight in an audio update, along with a play-by-play of tonight's show.

the brock thing is probably better suited to the MMA forum, but he is sorta WWE related.

It's all really MMA related so off to (w)rest!
Also, best wishes to Brock. Just had his first (or second) child and now his entire career could be over and lord knows whatelse.

Why does that Ben Franklin quote about the dogs and the fleas keep coming to mind?
Well, Shane has been interested in MMA for years. If he's taking some kind of ownership stake in the company, resigning from WWE may be the only way to do it while protecting UFC.

Huh... Hopefully Lesnar is able to keep on going and recovers in short order. And for his sake, not only because he's the only thing involved with UFC that at all interests me.

Wait, is all of this Brock info very recent/completely new? I've never heard anything about this before. Pretty startling.

Wait, is all of this Brock info very recent/completely new? I've never heard anything about this before. Pretty startling. Some yes, some no. His last bout pushed back due to illness but, only recently did it come out that he had Mono. The rest is all new. Mono is a lot worse than people tend to think.

So...could we be seeing Velasquez vs. Dos Santos for the interim belt?

yea, I dont know about the whole "not fighting again" part, but here's the extended version from espn
--------------------------- MANCHESTER, England -- Brock Lesnar will not be back in the UFC anytime soon, according to UFC president Dana White.
Speaking with the media after UFC 105, White indicated the heavyweight champion is very ill and will be out of action for the foreseeable future. He went on to state that an interim title match might need to be set up.
White did little to shed light on the specifics of Lesnar's condition, but he did say that the champion has been hospitalized.
"He's in a hospital up in North Dakota somewhere right now," said White. "He went to Canada and some bad stuff happened to him, so we've got to figure it out.
"He doesn't want to talk about it publicly, but he's in bad shape. He's not well and he's not going to be getting well anytime soon."
Lesnar pulled out of his Nov. 18 heavyweight title match with top contender Shane Carwin, and reports suggested he had swine flu. But when rumors began to circle about the rescheduled Jan. 2 date being in jeopardy, it was announced that Lesnar had mononucleosis and could be out even longer than originally thought.
Now, after White's comments, it is apparent that Lesnar is in more dire shape. He is not only suffering from mono but other ailments as well.
"He has other problems too," continued White, fielding a question about his diagnosis of mononucleosis. "He is not good. He is very, very sick and he's going to be out for a while."
White went on to state that the UFC would be doing everything in its power to help Lesnar.
"I am worried about it," said White of his biggest star's medical situation. "You know, I can't really talk about it right now, but he's in rough shape. He's in really bad shape … and we're going to have to do some stuff to take care of this guy. He is not well and he's not getting any better.
"We're going to have to send him to the Mayo Clinic or to Scripps, or one of those really good hospitals to figure out what's wrong with this guy."

I don't know what is wrong with Lesnar but I can't say I'm too surprised. The way he trains and cuts weight and now getting mono is a horrible combination.

Man, i hope Brock gets healthy. It would be a damn shame to see his career cut short before he even enters his prime.
IMO, Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez should be back on for the interim belt, even though i think Junior Dos Santos is more worthy of a interim UFC title shot.
NOTE: I missed the part where Carwin is injured as well. Dos Santos vs. Cain is pretty much all they have right now.

I mean, HE cut his WWE career short (in his prime), his football career was DOA, and now that he's found something that he's excelling at...he's cut down again right as he hits his hottest point. I don't want to speculate without any grounds but...he's denied the two biggest ailments that could keep him out permanently...what else could it be? Regardless, it's scary, and I hope he gets better.

Mono is some pretty messed up stuff. If you get it as a kid, or teenager, it's no big deal. Like the flu, or something for a few weeks, and you're fine. I got it in my mid-twenties, and was sick for over two years. The later you get it in life, the longer and worse it is. And it was pure misery. Severe muscle aches/cramps. Constant sore throat. Barely able to keep your eyes open 24/7. Again, this lasted for over two years. Brock's not training again any time soon. And on top of that a mystery condition?

Even if he does win the battle against whatever diseases he's got, I think his career is done.
Mono takes a huge physical toll on your body. Even if he does get to the point where he can start to train again, he'll be a shell of his former self. As I said in the other thread, if he starts training again in mid 2010 (which looks to be a conservative estimate), it'll take him until at least some time in 2011 to get back to the shape he was in in 2009.
Then of course, there's his limited abilities. His entire UFC run so far has been 98% ground-and-pound, and has started to show bits of improvement in other areas. But what happens if his body no longer allows him to be so dependent on the one and only tool that has carried him this far? Then he becomes nothing but another sub-par MMA fighter. Yes, he's shown improvements, but his skills in those areas are nowhere near the level they'd have to be to carry him through a fight if he can't rely on the ground-and-pound.
Lesnar is a one-trick-pony. And mono very well may have taken that one trick away from him. I think he's done.
