The bookers may be at fault, but we don't see them. They aren't the ones we see mowing over wrestles left & right. By having Rey do this, they've made people resent him.
Rey moves merchandise because they give him great products. He's the only one in WWE that has masks for sale. Of course he's going to move them. If Tyler Reks had a cool mask for sale, those would sell out too. WWE needs to do more for wrestlers that actually need cool items.

Guys, Cena is booked as an underdog. Austin was booked as an underdog. Sting was booked as an underdog. Freakin HOGAN was booked as an underdog.
Top faces are booked as underdogs, and top faces also never lose. I have no idea why Rey's booked in this way and everyone's all bent out of shape and acting like they've never seen it before.

The difference is that Austin, Sting and Hogan were normal to above normal size wrestlers. Mysterio is barely even a cruiser weight. Yes, there is nothing wrong with the occasional upset Mysterio might attain against the likes of Swagger, etc. But it is an insult to peoples intelligence to portray a 175 pound man being CONSISTENTLY AND EQUALLY able to compete with 275 pounders even if wrestling is staged let alone having the same 175 pounder beat the 275 pound guys week after week. But of course to the WWE it is all about sports entertainment and the WWE Universe now so should anyone be surprised that this is happening. I miss the old NWA days because wrestling has totally lost any semblance of credibility and believability.

Kids buy the Rey masks because they like Rey and interacting with him. Ted Dibiase could have a great T-shirt design but no one would buy it because no one gives a crap about him.

A mask is a helluva lot cooler than a T-shirt, regardless of who wears it.

So.....Orton said "Eddies in Hell" but I don't see hate threads about him. Because WC codified Eddiesploitation as Bad and put the blame on REY's title run, ignoring the fact that heels like Orton and JBL would use it for cheap heat in feuds. WC's attitude to certain events becomes an echo chamber after awhile.

Five words : "I do it for Eddie". Go to hell Rey. You're not Eddie. So.....Orton said "Eddies in Hell" but I don't see hate threads about him. Because that was an isolated incident that can solely be credited to the WWE.

Rey's run as World champion, which only came about because of Eddie's death, was booked awful. Therefore, all blame must fall on Rey!

I think Rey could use a change of character about now. He's been a underdog/baby face with the big heart since he debuted and it's getting old.

I always hear he is a big part of SmackDown drawing big numbers from Latinos and also that he is very popular with kids who buy a lot of Rey merch. I am a bit tired of Rey too, but I understand why he's used the way he is. Khali is more popular in India. Why do I feel bad for saying this?

If Tyler Reks had a cool mask for sale, those would sell out too. WWE needs to do more for wrestlers that actually need cool items. If that were true, do you really, REALLY think WWE wouldn't try plugging all sorts of similar merchandise items for their other guys? I don't even mean loser nobodys like Tyler Reks; take a decently popular midcarder like MVP. If WWE management thought they could make shitloads more money if they added a few bells and whistles to his act, do you honestly think they wouldn't do it? It's not like Rey was ever one of the annointed guys like Orton or Dibiase Junior who got pegged as a future star from day one. He's a short, Mexican cruiserweight who personifies a concept of pro wrestling that's the antithesis of the image Vince McMahon has spent decades trying to cultivate, and on top of that, he stayed loyal to WCW until the company went out of business. That Rey's become as over as he is is a testament to his own talent, because the bookers certainly didn't do him any favors until after they realized how much money he could line their pockets with.

I'm surprised Rey didn't seriously injure himself into retirement considering his high flying style.

Well, yeah he stayed in WCW. What else was he going to do? Vince wanted nothing to do with him back when he was riding high with Konnan.
I get that Rey is popular with kids and Mexicans. Let him be popular with them in the midcard, not the main event. As noted in various threads, it's impossible to look good in a feud with Rey. If you wax him, then it's "Oh, he beat up poor little Rey Mysterio. Pick on someone your own size!" And if you lose to Rey it's "Haha, you lost to little Rey Rey."

Rey can easily beat guys bigger than him, because he has the 619. The 619 can beat anyone; I know, because I've seen it. Rey Mysterio is good enough to beat anyone of any size within the world of the WWE as it's been presented to us. Period. I don't know what's so bizarre about that. The rules of pro wrestling are solely the ones we see on TV. Sure, I'm not saying it's not tiresome for them to keep saying he's an underdog when he's clearly not. But, I actually prefer them going back to the well of his size to explain his underdogness rather than continually finding enormous people for Hogan to fight, or new ways for Vince's powermongering to screw Austin.
