I'm hoping that they get #89 just to spite some of their detractors.

I def. don't but since we are on the sub of UConn Womens, I will say Diana Turasi was the best female to ever come out of UConn & into the WNBA

It makes me an automatic sexist to say no, but no.
Even though I don't care about ANY college sports.

I think its great that they have been able to have the success they have had. However what Uconn has done shouldn't even be compared to UCLA's record. College womens and college mens basketball are two totally different sports.
Basically this is like comparing the statistics of a really good high school football team with the statistics of a really good NFL team. On paper the NFL teams stats are never going to be as good as the high school teams because the talent divide can vary by huge margins in high school. Its the same in womens college basketball with Tennessee, and Uconn scooping up all the good players. In mens college basketball just like the NFL the talent divide is marginal and a long winning streak is a much greater achievement.

It's impressive what they've been able to achieve, but no, no really.

I say hell no. They feasted on inferior competition for the most part and they're lucky that their streak is even at 88 in a row after the refs helped them beat Baylor last month.

I don't really pay attention to College Sports, but it's still pretty impressive.

The streak may be impressive, yes, but women's college basketball is woefully lopsided, and most of the teams that UConn had defeated in this streak wouldn't even be able to compete against even a men's team from the SWAC (I know, unfair comparison, but you have to understand).
It's just more or less what happens when you get everyone from a very shallow talent pool on one team.

I'm hoping that they get #89 just to spite some of their detractors. Same here. I'd actually like to see them get to 100 or more. I'm not a UConn fan but it's been quite impressive. I have no problem at all with women's athletics.

I have no problem at all with women's athletics. That seems like a thinly veiled accusatory statement. Just because someone doesn't care doesn't mean they're somehow a misogynist/opponent of women's athletics. Apathy in this case does not equal opposition. And it doesn't make somebody a lesser person, either.

I was just stating that I like watching some women's college basketball. I wasn't trying to say that people who don't are bad people. I know a couple people have stated they didn't like it and I was just saying that I did like it. I probably should have worded it better. I just like basketball in general. I don't care if it's men or women. If it's a good game,I'll watch it.

Is it impressive to have a streak like that? Yes. Do I care? No.

If anything, it just makes me hate them more with every win. And makes me want to see SOMEONE beat them. So...I guess they're heels?

At least they have good fundamentals?

It's just more or less what happens when you get everyone from a very shallow talent pool on one team. None of the teams they've beaten would be able to compete with ANY Division 1 mens team...and you can include UConn themselves in that. To say they've "equaled" UCLA's record is one of the biggest jokes I've ever heard of. All you have to ask yourself is this question. If a mens team goes on a long streak, what will garner more headlines? Wins #88 and 89 or Whenever they tie and pass this streak? The answer is obvious.

I want to see them shatter the record, just to piss off everyone.
Seriously though, I echo coach Auriemma's comments about the matter.

I hate them with a burning passion.
The ONLY reason they have this streak is they keep grabbing all the good players.
Now that wouldn't be a big problem, if there were a lot of chicks that are good at basketball, but there are not. So, by sucking up all the talent, UConn has made themselves invincible, more or less.
Plus, as others have said, UCLA's record is much, much, MUCH more impressive. UConn's is more like a varsity high school team playing a group of 6th graders.
