Jonah Hill? Seth Rogen? Vince Vaughn?
I don't know if I am doing this right.

I think Sean Connery is an example of 'basically playing the same character, but is awesome because of it.'
Sean Connery was the first Bond and so he didn't need to do anything else, he just played James Bond - the badass in whatever film he wanted, whether it was Highlander or that one where he's meant to be Russian.
I think that's a thread of its own, though - people who play themselves or one character, and it doesn't matter at all.

Oh, come on: you cannot say Christian Bale. Based on the films of his I've seen. Dark Knight Films X3: Grizzled guy who's emotionally cut off. Dark, tough guy. Terminator Salvation Grizzled tough guy who is dark and emotionally cut off from those around him. 3:10 to Yuma: Grizzled tough guy who has a doesn't say much. Equlibirum: Dark, brooding tough guy. Harsh Times: Grizzled ex-armed forces tough guy who is admittedly - very dark. Shaft: Psycho tough guy who's really dark. That's like 7 movies where he's basically playing the same guy. Maybe he has great range, but outside of American Psycho - I've yet to see it. Bale is definitely a victim of typecasting rather then lack of range. He's fantastic in The Fighter, and that's a totally different character then usual. The Prestige is another one he's excellent in

I know he just does his own movies but Woody Allen basically plays himself in every one of them. He's like a literate Pauly Shore.

I can't disagree more with Christian Bale. That guy is one of the best around. In "all the Little animals" he played one of the most convincing mentally challenged roles I have seen in cinema.
He is great in Laurel Canyon, The New World, Rescue Dawn, I'm not there, The Prestige.Public enemies, The Fighter. These are all really good movies displaying range. That said I also like his action movies: Reign of fire, Terminator, 3:10 to Yuma, Harsh Times, Equilibrium.
The guys the best around
Not to mention the guy outside of reoccurring roles he has never had the same accent in a film either.

I kind of think Batman hurt his career a lil. As widely praised as the films are, his Bat-voice has really caused a lot of jokes to fly his way.

Adam Sandler. Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore and the Wedding Singer are all the same character. Watch reign over me, Sandler really impresses me in this film. I'll add christopher walken, but he;s christopher walken, he gets a pass.

Yes. He showed quite a range attempting to oversee a violent and chaotic prison as warden Leo Glynn in Oz. Well, to be fair, he basically just did "Overworked and annoyed hard-ass guy" the entire series. Disagree. There were storylines involving his family members where there was plenty of character development: When he had to cover for his criminal brother and eventually convince him to turn himself in, when his daughter got raped, and his surrogate father relationship to Clayton Hughes.

Morgan Freeman. You don't notice at first due to him being so cool, but he basically plays the role of dignified and well spoken man all the time.

Those who say Keanu Reeves needs to watch The Gift, Hardball, Sweet November, The Watcher, and The Lake House. He has range and is very underrated in my opinion.
The Gift is his masterpiece of a performance. His acting in that film convinced me to stay about 500 feet away from him.

Is Helena Bonham Carter a good comedic actress? All she plays is rather unique women in dramas.

Julia Roberts. Talk about seriously over-rated. Sandra Bullock is pretty one-dimensional as well. How those two won Oscars is beyond me.
Stallone. Has all the range of a rock.

Weirdly enough I saw a clip of him doing Hamlet, hes a classically trained Shakespearean actor. There is a difference between not having range, and being typecast.

Basically, any female who does mostly rom-com's
Kristen Stewart can act (as can Robert Pattinson), just not in those atrocities
I know Samuel Jackson can act his ass off, but he gets cast in a lot of the same roles
