What most people seem to be forgetting is that that Gif is from the first time they did it, and it got almost no reaction. Then Kane's music hit to interrupt it. The second time, however, was when it was down to the final four and Orton and Cena faced off - to even LESS of a reaction. THAT was the one where you could literally hear a pin drop.

Yeah, every time they tried to play up the epicness of Cena and Orton colliding, only for it to completely flop, was a really fun moment.
Can't wait for the seagull pop on all the recaps! ;D

Daniel Bryan and Punk's confrontation had a loud pop compared to this epic fail with duel chants throughout. Orton/Cena were probably expecting the same thing, but the RR match momentum was totally killed after DBD and Morrison were eliminated. The only other good spots were Booker-T and Diesel.

The no reaction was the perfect microcosm of what's wrong with the company today and how disconnected Vince and the writers are from the paying audience.

I would agree with that to a point but when it comes to wrestling trial and error is just what you have to do sometimes. Vince and the writers don't understand that Cena and Orton have been overused way too much at this point. They are both really good in the ring but that has kind of hurt them because they both rose to the main event really fast. Other than a good storyline(which the writers at this point obviously don't know how to do) there isn't much left for these guys to do anything. It especially sucks because they are only in their early 30s when guys usually hit their peaks. They hit their peaks way too early due to WWE being mediocre for so many years. What else is there for them to do for the last ten or fifteen years of their careers?

They try way too hard to get these cheesy staredown with the Wrestlemania kind of spots to put over their brand, but it craps on the talent and makes them look like predictable, lame robots.

Glorious, simply glorious. I love it when fans in mass tell WWE "No weve seen this enough times, please something new, thanks".

Yeah I could tell they were going for a reaction but they should have known better especially since they were in the smarky northeast. It just seemed like a photo op. When Warrior and Hogan did it it really meant something because that really was like irresistible force meeting the irremovable object.

No. They have gotten pops in other parts of the country facing off. Maybe not Warrior/Hogan like pops but it has worked before. Notice that there was no high pitched Cena chants.

Yeah but Hornswoggle was over and a smarky town should (if we are going with consistency) hate his guts.

Honestly I think the Cena/Orton faceoff failure was more due to the fact that both have been on top for so many years now. Orton was pushed way way way too fast at the beginning of his career and completely killed of anything for him in the future. Orton will keep going but at this point at 30 years old I just don't see him going up.

It was made even worse by the commentary team going dead silent. Vince was probably in the headsets yelling "SHADDUP, DAMMIT!!!!! THIS IS GONNA BE A HUUUUUGE POP, AND I DON'T WANT YOU A**HOLES RUINING IT!!!!!!!!"
..........
"WHY AREN'T THEY CHEERING, DAMMIT!!!!"

I laugh at people trying to make a big deal out of what is an inconsequential spot in a battle royal. WWE does not care what reaction it got. They aren't setting these guys up to fued. WWE laughs at you for believeing they care.

In defense of the crowd, there was ZERO emotion in it. Neither of them gave any reason to care, other than "oh hey, we're both in the Rumble together, isn't that swell?". Compare it to the Cena/Punk staredown. The crowd went apes*** for that. Not to sound like a smark or anything, but I think it should say something when this doesn't get a reaction but Punk/Bryan get dueling chants and even William Regal gets a chant! But with all bias aside (I can stand Cena but hate Orton, BTW), I think this should prove to the Creative staff that Cena/Orton has been done to death and shouldn't be done anymore.

What also hurt the spot was the fact that Cena and Kofi did the exact same spot earlier in the match...the whole look at each other, look at the WM sign, then fight.
But yeah, I was yelling at the screen during Cena/Orton..."This isn't Hogan/Rock!! People have seen this a million times before!"

Was it wrong that the Kofi/Cena staredown got a bigger reaction from the crowd?

WWE laughs at you for believeing they care. I think they do care. They had them stare down twice. They had Cena say how him vs Orton would be an epic 'Mania main event. So they have hinted at it thinking people would be salivating at the prospect.
