I wonder what the reaction was backstage. I imagine lower cards and maybe some bigger name guys were trying to hide laughter from Vince and others.

I got a good laugh out of those.
Silence is much better than boos, to show the Creative team that they've over done a fued and pushed guys into the main event too often.

This was kind of a cringe-worthy moment for me.

I was laughing so hard.
It's amazing that they don't understand that people don't want to see this again.

You know what? I'm so desensitized to seeing those two together that it didn't even register with me that the staredown was supposed to mean something.

Just imagine if it'd been Diesel instead of either of them.

They'll probably rationalize it by saying the "crowd was in awe" or something.

They'll probably rationalize it by saying the "crowd was in awe" or something. "They were speechless, this was even bigger than Hogan and Warrior!"

It was totally random too. It was like they turned around one second and casually noticed the other guy was there...

Just take Cena and Orton out of the main event picture and make them a tag team for a while already.
Though that won't happen until after WrestleMania it seems, seeing as how they're building to Miz/Cena apparently.

I think we're all reading into it a bit too much.

I think we're all reading into it a bit too much. Nah. I'd say that it was pretty blatant not only what they were trying to do, but how bad it failed.

Extremely awkward moment.
I almost felt bad for the two of them. The crowd literally did not care in the slightest. Then again it just goes to show that there is no pairing in the WWE that will give you that Austin/Rock RR 2001 feeling right now.

Oh and that isn't a mute GIF, that's the actual amount of crowd noise this staredown got. ;D

Oh and that isn't a mute GIF, the's actual amount of crowd noise this staredown got. ;D Nicely played. What was also kinda sad was how loud other ovations were. Chavo got that nice pop. Nash. Morrison. Bryan/Punk. Even Santino if I recall correctly. So can they even blame the crowd being burned out? Or was it that come hell or high water, these two simply don't have the chemistry they have as enemies as they have as allies..

In defense of the crowd, there was ZERO emotion in it. Neither of them gave any reason to care, other than "oh hey, we're both in the Rumble together, isn't that swell?".
Compare it to the Cena/Punk staredown. The crowd went apeshit for that.

To me, anyway, this is the problem when you have people who've faced each other so often over the years, in various incarnations.
It's like, Cena looks at the man who kicked his father in the head but that's ok now, they'll have a hell of a match at Wrestlemania.
When Triple H comes back, I can easily see him teaming up with Orton to face Nexus or Del Rio and someone else, despite the fact that Orton assaulted almost his entire family.
Where is the hatred?

I remember way back, there was a rumor about holding off the feud between these two until WM25. They really should have built that for years instead of the weak blowoff they got at Summerslam. This is back when the brand split actually sort of mattered, it would have been real simple to keep them on separate shows for a while, and tease tension/interaction at dual branded PPV's. Always have them just miss eachother in the Rumble, until one year Randy would win the Rumble, pick Cena to face, and that would have ushered in the new era at WM 25...instead we've had an endless feud that as evidenced by the standoff tonight...we're immune to it.

Not as awkward as Eve crying her eyes out over winning the tramp stamp belt and getting no sort of reaction what-so-ever. The crowd would not even give her a sympathy cheer......COLD BLOODED!
