I was watching their infamous Wrestlemania match and dont understand what happened.
It should have been a main event war of the ages. Instead it was awful.
I know both guys were leaving, but did they get nervous with the crowd reactions? Was the match poorly planned/booked by the booker?
Or did they just go out there and intentionally stink up the joint?
Was there any consequence of their actions- I know they were both leaving but I would expect if 2 big stars try to destroy Wrestlemania they would be given a Blacklist worse than Lex Luger or Randy Savage.

I don't think either of them cared, and probably weren't happy that they were just going to be putting Austin over by the end of it.

If I was leaving to try my hand at the NFL, I probably wouldn't go all out and risk injury. Both guys probably didn't go out there with the intent to put on a great match, since they both knew their active wrestling careers were over.

They probably were gonna half-ass it anyway, and then just decided 'f*** it, we're not gonna try at all' once the crowd started shitting all over both guys at the open.

What incentive did they possibly have to put on so much as a Heat-quality match?
Who actually works hard on the last day of a job they quit?

It's rumored that the match was planned out badly as a petty revenge against them both for leaving, but I think they were gonna halfass it anyway. Even if they had put on a five star classic, the crowd would've let 'em have it for leaving anyway.

It was two overhyped bags of suck showing what happens when there's nobody to carry them.

It was two overhyped bags of suck showing what happens when there's nobody to carry them. I'm betting if you took Bret Hart in his prime and Mr. Perfect in his prime, and you put them in a match with both knowing that they wouldn't return to wrestling and were pursuing other sports, the match would probably suck. There's just no incentive to try hard when a) your performance doesn't matter and b) trying hard has a greater chance of causing an injury that hurts your future. I don't think any rational person would go all out in that situation.

B) They had fans who knew this was there last chance to see there favorite. Knowing both Goldberg and Lesnar went out there and decided ''Why should I work hard?''

A little bit of both, probably. I got the impression the match was booked to make them look like "equal but opposite," hence the long period of them just locking up and falling back over and over again. But since they both were on their way out, they were doubltess less than interested in the match. And the audience reaction just made them even less motivated. You could tell that eventually they just started being deliberately bad to further peeve ppl off. Lesnar was probably supposed to flip the audience off in the end, but the stunned and then cheesed look on his face seemed pretty genuine to me.

But if they were going onto other careers and knew that going all out on their last day could lead to injury and ruin those other career prospects, you bet your ass that they'd hold back quite bit. I have no doubt that that match was intentionally bad, because I believe every wrestler in that situation would half-ass it, no matter how praised they were beforehand. They had no incentive to go out there and go for broke. At least one (Lesnar) had incentive not to. I guarantee you, you put any two wrestlers in that exact same situation, and you'll get a similar result, because that's how people act, on incentive.

I've said it before, but looking back, I don't blame them.
The guy don't even get a single move off, and "YOU SOLD OUT" chants start.
Lesnar sold out? So he walks away from a seven figure salary and a private jet to TRY OUT for, not make, a team in the NFL, and THAT'S "selling out"?
The fans deserved what they got.

If it was my last day. I would put on a good show. On my last day of work I still put in as much effort as I did on my first few days there. Why? Because if I am doing it for me. I don't care if they were 'mean' to me or whatever. I know I can leave the company with my head up high.
I know if I was Lesnar or Goldberg, I would of put in a better effort and just have them remember my last match as a good match. I would do it for me. But then again they probably had too big of an ego to do something like that.

For as much flack as the guy takes, he worked his last WWF appearance on the last day of his contract by busting his ass to put Chyna over.
