Wouldn't Mother 3 be last generation? Or even two generations ago? It was for the GBA, which was followed by the DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, and now the 3DS.
Persona 2 is sooooooo damn awesome. It's better than Persona in every way. The only real problem is that it's pretty easy like you mentioned, but then I'd rather have a game be really easy than annoying stupid-hard. I'm taking a break from it at the moment, but I'm up to the point where everyone thinks Lisa is an idol. Haven't picked up any new Personae beyond the starting group but they work for pretty much everything so far. Getting cards is a lot easier, and since the fights are easier it's not a big deal to run around for a bit collecting them. Getting rid of the grid system was a great style change from P1 to P2, because that was really stupid in P1. I have a gun, why can I not shoot it at every damn thing?

That's why I said "technically," as the Xbox 360 launched in November of 2005 and everything after it can be considered part of the current generation from a release date standpoint. From a hardware standpoint, it certainly is last-gen.
I love that part (along with most other parts of the game admittedly, haha), Ryusei Yarou's Sound MAX! is such a great tune even though it's short. It's so damn catchy!
And yeah, you don't really need anything other than the default Personae for most of the fights, actually. It's fun to experiment with different Personae much like in every other MegaTen game, but if card collection is being unkind to you you don't absolutely have to. It's actually a bit refreshing, in a way, considering how much constant team-building is the background of other games in the franchise and how this game doesn't so much force your hand with it. If you're bored with the challenge or lack thereof, you can always switch to Hard difficulty too.
And you're also, of course, totally right about the elimination of the cumbersome grid system from the first game helping a lot. The ability to skip attack animations (don't remember if you could in the first game) also makes things flow so much better when you get to an area that's particularly rife with random encounters or a larger area.
I also really like the rumors system, it's a simple yet brilliant way to integrate plot with what you can buy in shops, urban legend sidequest battles, or even higher payouts in the casino. It serves as another effective way of showing Sumaru City's descent into madness because of everyone's rumors being made real.

Finished. 175 hours. 427 completed quests (yes, I counted them). 112 unique monsters defeated, including two level 100+ uniques. Countless memories. Seven friends. Two titans. One sword. One game.
Game of the year.
And now I'm going to play it again. New Game Plus, ahoy!

Holy crap holy crap holy crap
Just read that Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is coming to 3DS. If it gets picked up for release over here that'll be all of the best MegaTen games in the West, barring SMT II and If... which I don't see making it at all. (Oh, and Persona 2 EP PSP which Atlus would be stupid to not release here.) This is great news.
(Really hope it comes to Europe too if it gets an NA release)

I'm sure it's nothing like the two recent Devil Summoners, but the more SMT the better. I can't see much of the remaining ones being released in NA. I guess SMT II and if... might be available on iOS devices like SMT is at some point, but probably won't see the Devil Children or Last Bible series at all.

I have no problem whatsoever with Ghostlight. Them, 505 Games and similar companies have done an amazing job bringing in these niche titles. The thing is, it's those kind of companies that want to bring in those games here so they can sell them. Atlus, by themselves, stays in Japan/America. It's kind of like reverse Op. Rainfall: games already translated and only needing code work for TV signal are not meant to be released because the company is afraid to make money or something. I mean, even if the TV signal is not a problem, you can't be sure that the game will be released here (see: the Super Robot Wars games. OG, OG2, OG Saga and OG Saga Endless Frontier. None were released in Europe. Why? Who knows! And yet they sold relatevely well for the absolute lack of advertisement they had in America).
It's not like they're the only culprits (even big companies like Konami (yeah, I'm never forgiving them for the Suikoden 3 debacle) suffer from this), but they sure as hell bake the cake and then eat it. If it isn't Koei, Nintendo or some smaller company releasing them, the Atlus games are doomed to never see the light of day in Europe.
I mean, come on, even NIS publishes their own games in Europe through NIS America and their situations are quite similar.

EDIT: Doing some reading, apparently a barrier Atlus ran into with the release of Catherine in Europe is that they had to find a distribution partner due to not having the proper resources and infrastructure for a European release. One of the articles I found says it was like this with Persona 4 and 3D Dot Game Heroes as well. If they could find a steady distribution partner it might go a long way toward them being able to open an EU branch, but if they can't afford it what can be done.
The bigger-name publishers passing over some of the stuff they have is indefensible, though. They have the means to do it and it should be done. You mentioned Suikoden III and that's still a head-scratcher ten years later, especially with all of the other games in the series coming out over there.
I didn't know NIS self-published in Europe, but it seems like they tend to cut corners when it comes to localization, and you could end up with an Ar Tonelico situation where half the voice acting is cut out or an Ar Tonelico 2 situation where the final boss crashes the game after four turns due to the localization company's crappy QA.
PAL gamers (and Australians, plus they've got those censorship issues and ridiculous prices to contend with too) have been getting the short straw for a long time with regards to stuff not being released. I'm glad the situation seems to be getting a little better, but there's still a ways to go.

Yeah, I've read this one before (never played the games, so there) but even then they've been improving in recent years.
Also, Australians are PAL gamers. Only they get the short straw in everything and then some (even if we take out the censorship and the outrageous prices (not that they're that much better over here, but still) they still get the short end of the stick when it comes to the titles being released there, as being released in Europe doesn't mean they will get it, which is also a BIG headscratcher for me, as it's all about transportation).

Can someone tell me what's the difference between SMT: Nocturne and SMT: Lucifer's Call?

Can someone tell me what's the difference between SMT: Nocturne and SMT: Lucifer's Call? They're the same. Lucifer's Call is the PAL title of the game. I think they renamed it due to trademark shenanigans or something. Speaking of PAL, I apologize for not remembering that Australia was a PAL territory in my last post. Sorry, Aussies! And hang in there.

Just when I thought they'd struck bottom with the life-size pillowcases and mousepads with tits. Oh Japan, you so silly.
Come to think of it, the first Record of Agarest War game had an otaku-bait LE as well (even got released over here!). I think it was even called the "Really Naughty" edition or something. It creeped me out when I saw it.

Those coins look great. Looks like Club Nintendo's been whipping up some nice bonuses recently, the translated Monado Secret File book the French got was an amazing gift.
