I see it as being closer to a Monster Hunter type of framework, since Monster Hunter is so popular in Japan. And MH is almost totally focused on the online aspect...
EDIT: The new DQX thread sigmax made got me to thinking just now, as well. I wonder what's in store for the DQ series musically, in the more long-term scheme of things? I just remembered Koichi Sugiyama's nearing 80 years old.

Figured this was as good a place as any for this: Replaying through Final Fantasy IX again and, damn, this game really does hold up. Great mechanics, fun characters(Kuja might be my favorite villain in any game ever), and just an overall great experience. My only real complaint is the unforgivingly obscure collectibles sidequests. If you miss the wrong thing at the wrong time, you are f***ed on getting some of the better late game items. And don't even get me started on the Excalibur II's 12 hour time limit. Yeah, I'd put Kuja at the top of my favorite FF villains list. I know Kefka is usually regarded as untouchable, but without going too deep into spoilers, he's really just sick in the head and can't help the way he is. Kuja is an asshole and proud of it.

Dragon Quest X Needs the Internet And Extra Money, TooSquare Enix.....I am very disappoint..... So yeah, you can play the game by yourself, but only for the first few hours, basically turning the single player mode into a tutorial mode. After that, you have to play online. And you have to pay for the online. f***....that....

Had to cancel my Persona 2 preorder due to... financial circumstances. Not a big deal, really, I don't think it'll sell out that fast so I can probably just buy it next month. And there's a PAL release coming as well, so no worries there.

Just preordered Persona 2 as a sort of birthday present for myself. Really have to get a PSP at some point.
Are PSPs region locked? Cause Suikoden I & II looks like it would be an awesome import whenever I get the money together for a PSP.

Finally just about got back to where I was on Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. I had clear data saved on it with all kinds of super-awesome demons and basically everything pre-New Game+ done, save some alignment-specific stuff you can do in the final sector after the alignment lock (I played Neutral). Well, I decided to start a new from-scratch playthrough of it some time later, and accidentally saved over my clear data when I was really tired. You can imagine the fiery, unholy rage that followed. About 140ish hours, in-game and out, lost. Thank god I've finally almost fixed that problem, and in about half the time to boot. Also, I can't play my new PSP and the games I've scored for it since I hilariously forgot to get a Memory Stick. Sigh.

Can't wait for the open beta to Rusty Hearts this tuesday , loved the closed beta tons of fun IMO.
I just hope to gawd the cash shop will not run this game , i can already see the writing on the wall that the games economy is gonna go to hell in the AH very quickly especially since u can craft costumes in the game.
Im already at my wits end with Dungeon Fighter and that seriously messed up economy and the fact nexon has now lowered drop rate and gold after u get in a certain ammount of play time , really just took the piss to a boil.
Might just trade up for blade and soul which IMO looks great.

I think I went neutral the first time, and started a second playthrough but got kind of bored of doing the same thing so soon. Had some really cool demons: Vishnu with Megidolaon, Salvation, Riot Gun, Victory Cry, Jihad, Luster Candy Huang Long with Megidolaon, Mahamaon, Victory Cry, Gun Amp, Luster Candy, Heaven's Bow Shiva with Jihad, Enduring Soul, Victory Cry, Tetrakarn, Hades Blast, Madness Crush Amaterasu with Mediarahan, Debilitate, Invitation, Luster Candy, Fire Amp, Trisagion Hathor with Void Gun, Void Phys, Magarudyne, Maragidyne, Mabufudyne, Maziodyne

Those are awesome, especially that Hathor. Gotta love 4-element versatility, even though its effectiveness is somewhat diminished in this particular game. I had a Titania with Maziodyne, Mediarahan, Mabufudyne, Maragidyne, Magarudyne, and Energy Drain, but her damage fell off a little too much so I had to retire her. I also love the customizability of Vishnu and Huang Long; since their base resistances are already stacked you don't have to worry about giving them Repel X or Void Y, and they come with great skills and stats to boot.
My main go-tos right now are Amaterasu, Susano-O, Thor, Frost Ace, Kartikeya, and Aniel, but I've got some demons I'd like to work on. I had a potentially great Xi Wangmu, but I screwed the pooch on one of her skills (Fleeting Rain turned into Recarmdra, ugh) and need to restart with her, hahaha.
Also, now that I'm level 91 after finishing Mother Harlot, I should fuse Shiva.

Yeah, Hathor stopped being useful too, as she couldn't keep up with the other demons' level - she's 41 while my other summoned demons are around 80+. I still kept her around just because she was first demon I tried to customize to be a powerhouse. And she is useful sometimes, it's just that she doesn't stay alive for long. The most useful for me is probably Amaterasu, with Mediarahan and Invitation for healing, Debilitate and Luster Candy for buffs/debuffs, and Fire Amp + Trisagion for killing everything that isn't resistant to fire. Vishnu and Shiva take care of everything else.

The big question is how do you open Strange Journey's box without damaging the cardboard?

The big question is how do you open Strange Journey's box without damaging the cardboard? I just sort of push in the top and bottom of the box so the opening arcs a bit, then it's a matter of carefully pulling the tab out from the side without bending it.

So I've been replaying Strange Journey now, and I remembered it wasn't doing the same thing over again that was boring, it was how easy the game is on New Game+. Every single fight is just hit X and win. Though there is a level of satisfaction in one-hit killing Mithra. Him and his stupid hidden doors.

Playing Suikoden V today and decided to try out the game breaking party. My god, those characters break it clear open.
Zerase has way too powerful spells with the Star Rune. Seriously, I would tolerate her game breaking if she was the hero of the game but when you're more powerful then the main character (who already is a bloody good fighter-spellcaster) then you hit a problem. The only more powerful character in Suikoden history was McDhol in the first two. And he had the Soul Eater rune which kinda balances it out.
Richard just seems to have skills that don't suit him. He hits way too hard, hits way too many times, has a rune that can cause instant death or massive damage, good at dodging and very good at parrying. At least he only gets one free rune slot, otherwise he would just be too good.
Viki is also up there thanks to her Chain Magic skill. Sure, the blinking rune may suck but she has incredibly high magic and two open slots. So she can throw around so much magic that it's almost scary.
At least the game has a huge cast with many characters that can contribute well; Bernadette never leaves my party since she's a great healer, Belcoot is a pretty awesome fighter with a good rune and an incredible parry skill, Goesch is an awesome physical tank with a steel rune and firefly rune. I could go on if you guys wanted me to.

After having this sit around collecting dust in my PS1 collection for a decade, I finally got into Vagrant Story... I'm only on the third act, I guess you'd say, but I'm really digging the visual style, combat (boss fights have been awesome), and just overall unique approach to the formula.
Just took a break from Final Fantasy IX... never beat it, I'm near the end of the second disc, I'm liking it allot... Don't know how I'd rank it with VIII and VII, specifically, but it's an excellent game.
I've been casually chipping away at Phantasy Star IV for the last year. Love this game.
I'm a little over half way through Nier... pretty lopsided at times, but I really enjoy the variety of gameplay, great music, and interesting story.
Lined up for me, I have Xenogears, Suikoden (I've only played the second one, years ago), and Grandia.

Good lord, was that my least favorite FF before XIII came out.

I never set up a game-breaking party in Suikoden V, just going on the characters I liked, but it usually ended up being pretty over-powering anyway - Prince, Miakis, Jeane, Viki, Hazuki, Isabel. Yeah, I like to run around with a harem. And pretty much any party with Miakis is going to be over-powered. She is awesome. I do like to throw in Belcoot, Lun, and Killey every now and then as well. The later Suikodens kind of spoiled me with how many extra slots there are for parties, it makes the first Suikoden forcing Viktor and Flik into your final party infuriating.

I think everybody that's played the game will agree. I loved Killey also. He might not be as good as he was in Suikoden II but look at him. Is his outfit not kicking rad? Lun is also an interesting case since she's in between her parents. Physically stronger then her mother but weaker then her father and magically it's inverted. However, she's such a versatile character that she's worth using. I liked Hazuki and she's certainly high up in regards to other warriors. However, she really has to rely on her evasion because her parry isn't great and she certainly can't take very many hits with her HP. As I said before; thanks to its massive cast, Suikoden 5 has plenty of viable characters unlike Suikoden 4 whose key party for the final boss is Kika, the Hero, Snowe and Ted. Nothing was a challenge with them afterwards.
