I actually liked FF13. From a gameplay stand point, it was actually one of my favorites. *dodges all incoming Firaga spells* I was actually about to post something similar. I wouldn't say it was one of my favorites, but I absolutely loved it. I thought the story was great, the character development was stellar, and the gameplay was just outstanding.

13 is behind only X in the series for me.
All the "ZOMG TOO LINEAR WAAAAAH!" sort of people neglect to realize that the straightforward style of the game is what MAKES THE ENTIRE GAME WORK. Given plot points (I won't elaborate in case of spoilers), it would be totally and utterly jarring to allow you to free-roam until the point you can in the story. It would make zero sense.
I love that it disposes with a lot of JRPG tropes to make a more coherent and forward moving experience.

Yeah, I knew about the sequel, but I didn't want to watch any trailers for fear of potential spoilers. If the Yoko Littner dressalike turns out to be Clover like Famitsu's hinted at, I don't expect she'll be very happy at having to play yet another Nonary Game, hahaha. Also, I'm reading the "answers" section on the English 999 site and it says {Spoiler}that Junpei never catches up to Aoi and Akane and spends the rest of his life chasing after them. If that's true and not some kind of joke by the developer, then the happy and fuzzy true ending contains one of the most damn depressing parts of the whole game. That's soul-crushing right there. Given one of the 999 endings, I would not want to be near Clover (if that is her) when she finds out. {Spoiler}Or at least as long as she doesn't have an axe in her hand. Junpei should have just stopped and picked up the ancient naked possibly immortal woman on the side of the road. She seemed like a lot more fun. Hahaha, true, true. That smile, good God. It's funny how open-ended things still are, for as many questions they answered at the end. Addicted to "Lost," I guess, heh. I can see your point though, definitely. Junpei and crew could damn sure use some fun after the veritable hell they were put through in the Nonary Game. Pick up the hot hitchhiker and hit the town; there's only one place to go, considering where they are!

I wouldn't consider the lack of them ideal, but I definitely don't mind it as long as there's a perfectly logical reason for it...and there is, here. I really didn't mind the linear nature of this game at all. The plot was interesting enough, the battle system fun enough, and the areas interesting enough to look at, that it just didn't bother me one bit that I was basically just going forward at all times until Gran Pulse. I just...I really strongly disagree with almost every complaint this game has against it.

Unless Seven got to Lotus first.

Just gonna leave this here. you'd better not be f***ing with me YOU HAD BETTER NOT BE F***ING WITH ME YEEEEEESSSSSSS even if it turns out like Tierkreis, or if we don't get it over hereYEEEEEESSSSSSS Also, I think I'm in the process of getting the True Ending on 999. DAT SUDOKU. but YEEEEEESSSSSSS Enough to give me a boner But yeah, I expect it to be "another Tierkries" if nothing else because of two things: - No gameplay footage whatsoever, only anime style cutscenes in the very same style they exist in Tierkries - The trailer didn't have the feel of a main-Suikoden game. If nothing else if one compares it to SIV and SV trailers (since it's when Suikoden added VA) they both begin the same way, with Viki asking in which country she is and another character anwsering her. That and there was nothing specific about them runes in the trailer either, and everyone knows that they are up front and center with them.

Ghostlight may be releasing discounted Persona 2/Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky combo-pack in the UK. blog.ghostlight.uk.com/post/ghostlight-faq-part-1I'm not exactly sure what the later game is but if it's not much more I may buy it, partially as I'm guessing the combo-pack might be one of those releases that go up in value. Anybody played Trails in the sky? Is it worth buying?

I too have heard great things about Trails in the Sky. It's actually one of the games I got for the PSP when I got the system, though I haven't opened it yet.
For what it's worth I've heard it's got the largest script in JRPG history.

So then.
I've just been to GameStop, and for the second day in a row they don't have my copy of Persona 2: Innocent Sin. Got the call on the 19th, go there the 20th, nothing. Go there today, nothing. The GameStop that's closer to me (I've got two here that are close) has it in stock, but it's a gutted display copy and part of the reason I preordered was for the soundtrack.
They took down some info and said they'd call tomorrow if they get it in, and told me to call them Friday if they don't call tomorrow.
Right now, the only reason they still have my Devil Survivor 2 preorder is because I know no other stores around will stock it. I am a bit pissed off.

I just went through Amazon, so just waiting for it to ship. I've had bad experiences in the past with pre-ordering at EB, now GameStop. Though those bad experiences did eventually lead to me having two Ghaleon punching puppets and an Arc the Lad watch with Arc as the character, so it wasn't all bad.

At this rate you may get it before I do, hahaha. At least there is an upside in that it'll allow me to get through as much of Persona 4 as I can before I start on P2. I would've ordered via Amazon, but I have...trust issues with ordering things online. This situation makes me wish Game Crazy were still around, though; not only did I never have preorder problems with them, I also got some seriously killer deals through their special-order service. ...you should make a Magic Emperor armor suit for your spare Ghaleon puppet.

Hopefully it shows up next week. I always do the cheap thing and get free shipping on stuff like that, which adds a couple days to the shipping time. The best deal I ever got at the local Game Crazy was finding Ico for $7 a couple years ago. The store is now an American Italian Chinese Japanese buffet. If I had any sort of arts and crafts or fabrication skills I'd be making a Magic Emperor suit right now. Never even thought of that. I was upset because the back of the box for it had a Dragonmaster Alex punching puppet, but when I e-mailed Working Designs about it they responded that it wasn't available to the public. I like to think that if they had produced the Alex puppet, WD would still be in business.

The best deal I ever got from Game Crazy was a new, factory sealed, first press (with soundtrack) Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for $18, basically still at the peak of its rarity (January 2006). Much celebrating was done that day. Ours is still vacant, as the Hollywood Video buildings' architecture style is apparently too hard to work around. It would've been awesome had they produced an Alex puppet to go alongside the Ghaleon one. That Ghaleon puppet looks pretty well-done, and it'd be great to have had a good Alex to counter him. Alex could be an infinitely more likable SuperCena and Ghaleon could be his Edge. On a more serious note, if Victor Ireland had any kind of ideas about running WD like a business, it would still be around. Guy unabashedly ran it like a fan hobby and it showed, with the bulging LE packaging and contents. It was great, don't get me wrong, but those giant LE packages had to be massive torture on their bottom line. Add to that, his relations with some of the Japanese publishers whose games he wanted to bring over here were reportedly rather tempestuous. (And, of course, Working Designs would also clearly still be in business if Victor got to release Sakura Taisen: Atsuki Chishio ni over here like he wanted to. I think I read once that he was showing it around to some journalists at E3 2004 as a potential future localization project; really sucks we never got it, even though we later did finally get a Sakura Taisen title.)

I have the two Lunar games and the Arc the Lad Collection that WD put out, and you're right about the amount of pack-in stuff. Those boxes were monstrous. The strategy guides were awesome as well, but they never released the Arc the Lad III guide. A lot of their releases were hit-or-miss too. The only other ones I'm particularly interested in finding are Alundra, Silhouette Mirage, Vanguard Bandits, and Growlanser Generations. Especially that awesome Growlanser deluxe version.

I've seen Alundra over here in Disc Replay a couple of times but never pulled the trigger on it. $40, which is on the very high end of their pricing scale. (The most expensive thing I've seen in a Disc Replay is Mega Man Legends 2, of which one copy was $54.99. The others were $49.99.) Supposed to be an amazing game though, a great mixture of Zelda and Secret of Mana.
I've always passed on Growlanser, though I considered getting Atlus' release of Heritage of War while Game Crazy had it. Is it a worthwhile series? If it is, maybe I'll luck into it somewhere.
I've heard mixed things about Vanguard Bandits, and also that it was hilariously titled Detonator Gauntlet before Midway put the kibosh on it.
And if you ever find Silhouette Mirage, be warned that it's Angry Sun-rage-level difficult. A friend of mine back in middle school had it, and I ragequit in seemingly no time, hahaha. WD were also known to jag around a bit with their game difficulties, but they went a little far with Silhouette Mirage, in my opinion.

Amazon's pricing is $90+ new, $12 - $90 used, depending on the quality and how much of the original packaging there is. The most expensive thing I've ever seen at Disc Replay is also the most money I ever spent on a video game - $84.99 plus tax for Suikoden II. Generations got good reviews, Heritage of War average reviews. It looks like a solid SRPG, which I enjoy from time to time. The main thing that interests me about Vanguard Bandits is the Lunar 2 Demo disc. Which I guess is an odd thing to want a game for, especially one that is as expensive as Vanguard Bandits can be, but it's not a big priority for me to get it. Silhouette Mirage isn't a big priority either, the game looks interesting but not if it's going to be hard to play.
