Yeah, Avengers Academy has been great. I still kinda wish they'd have used someone else in Speedball's place, though, given that he's not an Avenger. I mean, I get that he fits the motif of the book, but still... I'd have loved to have seen someone like Black Knight, Firebird, or Stingray in a regular Avengers title again. Dane Whitman NEEDS to show up again. The Black Knight is one of my favourite B/C string characters ever. Amen to that. He's a favorite of mine, too. They really should have done more with him in regards to the Bloodwraith/Slorenia stuff. I mean... outside of a brief mention during the last global operations stage of the Avengers, when Black Knight and someone else was posted at the border to keep an eye on things, have they even addressed that situation since then? I certainly don't recall them solving it, though admittedly I may have just missed it if they did.

Dane was a member of MI13, and they managed to write out Hudlin and his 'everything with black in the title needs to be in Wakanda' plot problem with his sword.............but since MI13 went under, I think he has showed up all of once in some short or another.
He and his new Muslim paige could do with a mini, if for nothing more than Marvel can use it to push acceptance and multiculturalism

I'll take whatever I can get, as far as Dane is concerned.
And bah. I had almost forgotten the stupidity of Hudlin's Ebony Blade stunt....

I bought World War Hulk and Planet Hulk graphic novels today. My problem is I never know where to start with comics. I see a whole load of Superman novels on Amazon for example, but don't know one from the next, which book covers which issues etc.
Can anyone direct me to a place that reviews them and gives a timeline preferably. I wouldn't get a weekly or monthly comic, but quite like getting a book that has the relevant issues all in one.
Thanks.

Hudlin had the best intentions, but he wrote Black Panther like a fan, and a fan with a political soapbox at that.

Mart's comic review again......... Went to the comic book store owned by the old hippy millionaire lottery ticket winner. He's really into books so I'm happy he spends his whole days introducing people to reading. This book store owner doesn't charge taxes on his books so more bang for my buck. Here's what I got with $12. Go! Fantastic Four #585 A part of their "Three" storyline. Good issue. It's still not clear exactly which FF member will die or be lost or away for a longtime. Reed goes off with Galactus against his will while Sue is negotiating a peace treaty with Namor the Submariner and the Tribes of Old Atlantis. Namor is so creepy here and you wonder why and at the end of the book it's revealed. It will shock you what he does. Back in New York City at the Baxter Building is under the eye of a depowered Ben Grimm and Human Torch Johnny Storm. They have no clue that an old villian from the Negative Zone has an sneak attack planned next issue. If your a FF fan this would be a good time to check in on the Four. Justice League of America/The 99 #2 (2 of 6)DC Comics and lesser known Teshkeel Comic tag-team up on this limited series. I don't feel any of the characters are burried but The 99 definitely relate to the JLA as the more experienced. The book starts out with a riot in some domed Arabic city with Superman not at all helping out. He's acting erratic. The other superheroes noticed there's something unusual on the back of his neck. Elsewhere in Spain the Atom is searching for a miniture Noor Stone in the body of someone named Darr. When the Atom gets the Noor Stone he realizes that something is on it covering the stone and shows a bunch of heroes a purple and light blue starfish he collected. Batman concludes on the last page that Starro the Conqueror has declared war on the planet Earth. Well drawn and both teams work well together. Giving this limited series a twirl would be a fine ordeal. Not a bad company crossover at all. R.E.B.E.L.S. #22 In the midst of part 2 of the "To Be a R.E.B.E.L." story-arc. A new Green Lantern named Gorious and StarFire Koriand'r go to a planet called Psion where the men there treat the women brutally awful and Gorious and StarFire kill a bunch of males soldiers. It's a gore fest. I'm really impressed with the fighting scenes in this book. The more I read R.E.B.E.L.S. the more it is becoming my favourite current comic book out there. More people should read this. And now from the Loose Bin: Satan's Six #4 (4 of 4) (July 1993) Created by Jack Kirby for Topps Comics (Topps more known for making pro-sports trading cards). The claim on the cover is that it guest stars Jason Vorhees from the Friday the 13th films but he's really only there for 3 pages and then goes a way. Then the story breaks the 4th wall and puts all the attention on some old Chicago gangster in how he must pay with his soul. For a book that is susposedly the end of a series the story doesn't really conclude at all. Then it book ends with a short preview bit of another Jack Kirby creation called Teenagents. You see the team come together and then that's it. This is a really bad output. A real head spinner. Just terrible. Action Comics #535 (September 1982) You'd have to have read the issue the month before to know why Superman's powers are weakened. He's saving the Daily Planet building with some trouble. The Omega Men make the save and meet Superman for the first time telling him of their origin. They all go out to foul up a caper by The Mole. Superman gets hit by some yellow ray and needs medical attention. While Supes is getting an operation with Lois Lane by his side The Mole breaks into the hospital and kidnaps Superman! With the Man of Steel gone the story continues next issue. The book ends with a short tale about little used superhero Air Wave saving the world from a mad scientist and evil space aliens. Air Waves gets no recgonization for it until he's summoned into the Justice League of America building and given a hip hip hooray in his name. The next issue will have Aquaman. Cool olden days ads are for a movie called MegaForce, Sgt. Shark's shark tooth golden necklace, Life Savers candy word maze, Capsela Construction toys and get a FREE Sgt. Rock dogtag with your very own serial number and 3 3/4-inch action figure. Incredible Hulk #251 (September 1980) Definitely not in mint condition 30+ years later but still a good read. Bruce Banner still running away from the army and the government but what he doesn't know is that a newspaper has taken a photo of him changing into the Hulk. It's on the front cover of the newspaper. Banner is put up for the night at a families home. The father of the home calls up the army to get Bruce Banner. The 3-D Man makes the scene to fight the Hulk and almost kills himself. Hulk runs off to save another problem Rick Jones has gotten into again. Touching family moment at the end of book for the 3-D Man. Awesome 80's adverts for Bubble Yum Bubble Gum, electronic lie and love detectors, "Avalanche" shaving cream, bloody mess soap, mechanical Pet Monkey, disappearing ink, deluxe electric shock pens, Mr. Freeze Pops inflatable pool float, superhero toys like Bat-Man squirt water guns or Spider-Man sunglasses, rules to a Marvel write-in contest where you could win $2500, a Hostess Twinkies comicbook ad featuring the deceased Captain Marvel, Man-Thing and (at the time) new X-Men team comics and the Daisy 840 B-B pellet Shotgun. Fun! Fun! Fun! COPS #5 (December 1988) Not much to write here other than you have to really give a shit about a robot dog here. Robot dog dies, it looks bleak that the robo-pup can be put together. The police officers remembances about the robot dog and how great of a cop that robot dog was. The main cop in this book goes after the baddies who hurt his robot dog and is getting he's brains beat out when all of the sudden the robot dog is reconstructed and saves the day by chomping out some big criminal ass. It's man and his robot dog back together again as the book closes. So what! Old school ads for Pac-Man for Tengen games, instantly win with Mindscape computer games, Plastic Man, The Unknown Soldier, Legion of Super-Heroes, Dr. Fate, Batman and something called The Prisoner comics. What If #38 (April 1983) The cover of this one is ripped and transparent taped up. You get The Watcher revealing three different sagas of alternate futures starring Vision and Scarlet Witch, Daredevil and Captain America. The Vision and Witch story is in the time period of 2033. Jocasta does a spirit essence exchange by transferring her spirit essence into the dying Scarlet Witch. Now the Scarlet Witch looks like Jocasta as Jocasta's soul essence dies within the original body of the Scarlett Witch. Other futuristic Avengers in this are Michael Rhodes as Iron Man and an older looking Mighty Thor. Captain America's story is what if Sharon Carter had not died?. Steve Roger's is in 2003. He's older and lately been off-the-mark with his crime fighting. Cap goes up against it with the Red Skull and the Son of Red Skull, kicks some ass and saves his family. THe Daedevil story is set in 2013 where Matt Murdock is an attorney for the U.S. Government and the Black Widow is now the Russian President. The two defeat a King Pin-led terrorist attack on an United Nations conference. King Pin dies taking a run at Daredevil, missing and falling to his death off the top of the roof of the U.N. Interesting old school advertisements here for Cracker Jacks candied popcorn, Blip Magazine, Dungeons & Dragons board game and M Network videogames. Until next time keep enjoying your comic books wherever you find them.

Fantastic Four is getting great.
"Reed Richard, his powers are active again. We need to have a serious conversation about your son."
Galactus channels a parent-teacher conference and still manages to be awesome.

Shadowland was kind of a letdown in the end, but then, they rushed through the story in a hurry anyways. Heroes for Hire was VERY interesting, and the twist is enough to keep me hooked for the first arc.

Oh, yeah, and I'm really sorry to see the Taskmaster mini end. It was a bizarre mix of hilarious and compelling, and I wish it could have gone longer than 4 issues. But, hey, it was a great four issues.

Anybody reading Prince of Power? Any good? Do you mean Chaos War? Or the mini series that ended recently that was a continuation of a mini from the 80s?

Hudlin had the best intentions, but he wrote Black Panther like a fan, and a fan with a political soapbox at that. His intentions were terrible from the start. He took what was a strong Black character who wasn't a Mary Sue with a well developed Nation that he constantly had to walk on Eggshells around and turned it all into Happy Go Lucky land.

Some quick questions. I saw a comic book page of Nightwing giving Oracle an engagement announcement of him and Starfire (after sex, cause Dick's name wasn't appropriate enough). When was this? Did it happen yet? What are/were the odds that this goes as wrong as most wrestling weddings?

Did it happen yet? What are/were the odds that this goes as wrong as most wrestling weddings? That happened way back in the day in Nightwing or Outsiders, can't remember which. Speaking of Outsiders I miss Grace and Owen, well at least Grace didn't die in a utterly stupid way.

Captain America's latest where the world knows he was the Winter Solider and he's facing the backlash from that is pretty awesome right now. But then Cap's the only title I buy month to month.
