On the one hand, that must be quite reassuring in terms of it not being a terrorist organisation attack, but on the other, any nutter doing something like this is both disgusting and scary.

At least the feared backlash against innocent muslims should hopefully not be an issue now that it's been made perfectly clear that the person responsible is ethnically Norwegian.
It was just confirmed that undetonated explosives have been found on the island where the shooting took place. Also it is expected that the death toll will go up as they search the island and the surrounding water for missing persons. Damn. Most of them are basically just kids. I really don't understand how someone wakes up one day and does something like this :/

Hate to be the paranoid one, but I do not think one does. I do not think this was international terrorism, but I would not be so quick to dismiss domestic. Remember Tim McVeigh had help in OKC as well, so I seriously doubt this guy was able to plant explosives in two separate locations, trigger one, travel to the second location and open fire like this. It also is not a snap judgment thing, this was planned. Something about this smells bad. If I were the Norwegian police, take some good hard looks here. EDIT: Late word from Oslo - 17 dead, 90 injured. t.co/Yb9uL7O

And the fecal matter just hit the oscilator. From AP: Oslo bomb-camp shooter suspect, age 32, called himself a nationalist, posted anti-Islam comments bit.ly/r6qXrYOh THAT is going to go over well in the Muslim world.

Suspect now has a name. He is described as being a right wing extremist nationalist, and the theory for now is that he acted alone. There was 90 minutes between the time that bomb went off and the first reports of shooting at Utøya. It was reported that a man dressed like a police officer was seen driving away in a civillian car from the blast site just minutes before it went off.
Regarding how many died yesterday, they suspected thirty for the shooting incident alone. Right now a total of 17 has been confirmed, but they are now in the process of searching the island for survivors, so that number is expected to rise as the search goes on. Also, there are several severely injured, so... it's not looking good. But I would rather not speculate too much. We'll know for sure tomorrow.

At least 80 confirmed dead. Shooting only. Expected to be more. I cannot even begin to express how this makes me feel.

Just tragic news. The bombs could have been a lot worse as today was a National Holiday so there weren't as many people in the building as normal.

where is this 80 dead coming from? I can't find anything saying that.
-edit-
Not that I'm doubting nor fighting about it. It's tragic no matter, just that I can't find it.

The bomb pales in comparison to the massacre on that island. Confirmed deaths as a result of the bomb going off is still seven... call me crazy, but taking into consideration the odd time he chose to detonate that thing, I'm starting to think it was supposed to serve as a distraction more than it was supposed to kill people. With all resources tied up in the aftermath of what was thought to be a major terrorist attack, that insane POS had all the time in the world to drive out there and slaughter all those people without having to worry about being interrupted for quite some time. From the first reports of shooting, it took way to long for the police to get out there.
Can't believe this. It's like... thirty minutes away. And it's getting more and more likely that someone I know has been affected in some way by this. Won't sleep tonight for sure.

I saw little bits of news on this throughout the day, having just read about it, it is truly horrible, my thoughts with those affected.

Minimum 87 killed. As usual I fear they will discover he has some kind of autism and thus put more stigma on it.

a lone gunman taking out 80+ people seems almost impossible to imagine.

On the one hand, that must be quite reassuring in terms of it not being a terrorist organisation attack, but on the other, any nutter doing something like this is both disgusting and scary. Whats it matter "who" did it? It's done, 80+ deaths are 80+ deaths. Whether done by a terrorist cell, a lone crazy or an accident. The fact that it wasn't terrorism won't make the familes of those killed feel any better, or make this even any less tragic
