Minimum 87 killed. As usual I fear they will discover he has some kind of autism and thus put more stigma on it. No offense, but almost a hundred people get killed and your fear is that he MAY have autism and they MAY put a stigma on it? There's dead people, a lot of them, some of them kids, possibly MANY of them kids. I find it completely mind boggling your first thought is the effect this may have on autism awareness?

There's not much that can be said, thoughts go out to the families that had loved ones viciously and senselessly stolen from them. Some people are disgusting animals, and that is all there is to that.

I believe that makes it the single most deadly spree killing by a lone gunmen. It is so unbelievably sickening.

This is incredibly sad. Not sure what else I can say beyond that. Hope any Norwegian posters are alright and their families and friends are alright.

I believe that makes it the single most deadly spree killing by a lone gunmen. It is so unbelievably sickening. It blows other spree killings out of the water :/ Before this, the most prolific spree killer had 56 deaths, and then the next highest ones were all in the 30's, including Virginia Tech. The number of deaths is completely unfathomable and horrifying. It's... I just can't comprehend how something like this happens. It's so many people that I can't even understand it.

Holy shit...
I mean, it is all I can really say.
It has reached the point where I am trying to avoid the story completely. I mean, I nearly threw up when I head 80 dead and now with it tracking higher...
I can honestly say I have not felt this way about something since 9/11. I have no other words besides a complete sick to my stomach feeling.
Thinking and praying for Norway tonight.

On the one hand, that must be quite reassuring in terms of it not being a terrorist organisation attack, but on the other, any nutter doing something like this is both disgusting and scary. Whats it matter "who" did it? It's done, 80+ deaths are 80+ deaths. Whether done by a terrorist cell, a lone crazy or an accident. The fact that it wasn't terrorism won't make the familes of those killed feel any better, or make this even any less tragic Who does it matters in that if it's a lone gunman, then they have their man. If he did not work alone, as a terrorist cell would imply, then the violence could continue. I am just numb hearing the extent of this. This is probably the most disgusting act of a person I've come across since the Amish shootings.

One of our posters, "Macho Dude Handy Damage" is from Norway. Hopefully he is ok. Yes, I'm OK. I'm currently on vacation in San Diego, so I heard about the news when I woke up this morning. Just read more news that so far, 90 people are dead from the bombing and the shooting. Indeed a horrible day for Norway and Norwegians everywhere. We appreciate your support!

So terrible. All those poor innocent children just murdered by a man they thought they could trust. It's truly sickening.

It's scary the calculated measures this mad man took as part of a pre-meditated attack on what were mostly young-teens. I agree with the theory that the bomb was a diversion mostly. The island was the target from the beginning.
I'm glad they caught him alive though unlike how most of these lone-gunman-shootings go. Now he can rot in prison for life instead of taking the easy way out.

He ordered 6 tons of fertilizer to make the bomb......bomb was at least 500 kilos.

I'm reading that it took them 90 minutes to stop him on the island. He killed almost one person per minute :/

He sent out a 1500 page manifesto the day of the attacks. I have read some of it, and from what I gather it has details on how he worked on his plan for some kind of race war for the last nine years, detailed plans in the form of a day to day diary of sorts for the last 80 days up until the morning of the attacks. He goes into great detail on how to acquire ingredients for bomb making and weapons, and also how to prepare the bombs. There are detailed logs of testing of these bombs throughout the last couple of years or so. He goes into detail explaining how to obtain an alibi, how to make sure that friends and family buys it and so on.
There's also talk of other people, using code names, that perhaps were involved from the start in some way or another. Basically, it's part manifesto and part instruction manual on how to plan and execute a major terrorist attack.
It's a scary read because it shows how much time, effort and money (according to him he spent around 300 000 euros, or 430 725 USD) went into his "project", and also because he seems like an extremely intelligent guy. It makes it clear that he never intended to get away with it, and there is mentions of "marketing" which makes sense considering he created a new profile on Facebook days before the attacks where all photos were professionally shot. All the photos the media are using? His own. He's gotten exactly what he wanted (so far). Hopefully this is the end of it all, but I'm not too sure.
Anyway. Still five or so people missing, but the police say they have no reason to believe there are more people out there. Only question now is how many people they have yet to find in the damaged buildings.

Apparently, this guy used Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a "training simulator" and used World of Warcraft as a cover for all of his planning and training for the attack.

Such a senseless act of violence. What kind of person would do such an awful thing? I hate to say this, but a very smart, but evil, person. He recorded EVERYTHING in a diary for the last 80 days up until the attack yesterday and was not shy about posting this stuff on the web and YouTube. He is not even contesting anything, he is PROUD of what he has done. Guy reminds me of the good ol' boys on the dock at Nuremberg. Let me be clear - I do NOT condone, support or admire what he has done. Indeed, he makes me sick. But I have to grudgingly admit he was incredibly smart to mastermind all this and, from appearances, do it solo. Scary. VERY scary.
