...a Batman story from the early 90's called "Prey". io9.com/5694543/is-the-dark-knight-rises-based-on-doug-moenchs-preyIn "Prey," set soon after Batman: Year One, Hugo Strange hypnotizes a troubled cop to become a vigilante, in an attempt to flush out Batman from hiding. Strange also convinces the mayor to put together a task force to hunt down the Dark Knight, with Jim Gordon in charge. And Strange figures out Batman's identity and torments him by putting mannequins of his parents in Wayne Manor, playing taperecordings designed to mess with Bruce's mind. And Catwoman also turns up. Eventually, Strange kidnaps the mayor's daughter and pins it on Batman. It is, as ScriptFlags says, a "dark psychological thriller."

(For the record, "Prey" is a great story and fits the Nolan-verse very well).

Meh.
Plus, didn't Nolan already say he isn't using Catwoman?

Meh. Plus, didn't Nolan already say he isn't using Catwoman? It could just be loosely based like all of his movies batman movies have been so far.

Meh. Plus, didn't Nolan already say he isn't using Catwoman? I think Nolan only said he won't be using Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and Baine

He did say no Catwoman at one point.
Intersting story, but I can't say that Hugo Strange is really a character worthy of the last of the trilogy.
I think I prefered the rumours re. Ra's returning, with Talia in tow.

Well, he did start with lesser known villains, so Strange wouldn't be a surprise.
I hope those rumors don't turn out true, though. The movie Ra's al Ghul would be ruined with a "You thought I was dead, BUT I'M BACK!" story, IMO.

The movie Ra's al Ghul would be ruined with a "You thought I was dead, BUT I'M BACK!" story, IMO. See, I'd be well into a Lazarus Pit story. Hugo Strange just isn't a big enough villain, imo, to not get trounced by casual reviewers for not being Joker level after the way that film took off. Plus, it's kinda just Scarecrow all over again in terms of a mad psychiatrist. Maybe Strange would work well as a secondary villain, potentially Ra's (even though that would mirror film 1 even more) also involved.

Hmmm, I read Prey a few years ago, I might have to dig around and have a look again. This isn't the first Strange rumour I've heard, its been batted around a few times. Hardy could be perfect for it and as noted it fits into the Nolanverse.
I do want to see Catwoman in a Nolan film, but I've heard rumours that Natalie Portman is on the verge of being cast. Nothing against her, I think shes a fine actress, but to me she hasn't got the... 'sizzle' to be Catwoman. Maybe thats just me and I'll be pleasantly suprised like I was with Ledger.

BIG meh. The storyline sounds hokey, and Hugo Strange is easily the least impressive Batman villain of the bunch.

I'm not a fan of Hugo Strange but I like the idea of using a villain that hasn't been used previously.

I haven't read Prey but this part sounds like the Alberto Falcone bit from Dark Victory

Don't think Hugo Strange really works as THE big bad to end the trilogy. Still want to see Black Mask or even Hush.

So, it will involve Batman and his Indian reservation getting abducted by aliens and him learning the secret of resurrection?

Nolan also said "no" to the following: Robin, Penguin, and Catwoman.

Is Hugo Strange a good Batman villain? I've never read any Batman stories with him. Any recommendations?

Is Hugo Strange a good Batman villain? I've never read any Batman stories with him. Any recommendations? He's.....okay, objectively. He's not the most exciting Batman villain by any means, but he's a strong psychological foil. From what I recall, his stories tend to be a lot of dialogue, with not a log of action to make up for it.
