Rock has made the internet like Cena. For that, he is a God. And that's exactly what they were going for. Emphasizing Cena's crowd reactions in his previous feud should have given this away. They are trying to make the people that boo Cena like him again and it's really starting to work.

Rock basically shot down everything Cena said the week before as soon as he got out there (even though he actually could go on for 30 minutes about how wrong Cena is). That's what makes me believe that the rest of the promo was just a plot to get Cena cheered. The unusual amount of unnecessary stalling, the notes on his hand (when has Rock ever been goofy enough to do that and why would they mention it?), the fact that Cena said what he had to say and just LEFT, and the way Rock acted like he got hit by a truck afterward.
It's been their angle for this feud since it started. They realized that constantly trying to build Cena up as the great hero wasn't a good idea, so now they just make The Rock look like a jackass. The end result is still going to be Cena getting his head booed off though. I just can't wait for this crap to be over.

honestly, I thought that the Rock did a piss-poor job of defending himself against Cena's accusations. there was so much he could've said to put Cena in his place but instead he went for the same old "let's make up a silly name for Cena" schtick.

Only the "stick to their guns loyal" Rock fans will end up behind him in this one at this rate. Well those and anyone from overseas at Wrestlemania for the most part.

To be honest even if it's a work, John Cena came out of this looking better.
The Rock just seemed to go on, and on, and on and I found it boring prior to Cena saying his bit.

Billy Gunn is no John Cena That's true, John Cena would kill for the pops that NAO used to get every week. You should change NAO to Road Dogg because Billy Gunn had absolutely nothing to do with the pops they got.

Work or shoot it's a tremendous build.
I think it's not totally a work and not fully scripted and approved by both guys beforehand, and that Cena really caught Rock off guard with the wrist notes comment. Rock isn't that good of an actor, not even in the slightest. He was legit pissed and flustered after that. I bet a report will come out today about it from Meltzer.

Rock did do a convincing job at least in my book of looking pissed. Just gonna add in some other quotes about who thought who won what...

JR has been quite open about the line between kayfabe and reality in the past. As Honeydew stated, it probably just is to further the feud but who knows really apart from those inside the business.

I didn't think it was possible, but I am 100% on Cena's side. ANd it's not all because of The Rock. It's also because of his fans blatant hypocrisy. They sit and claim that Cena is stale, yet they ate up everything The Rock said, which was a hell of a lot more stale as it was the same repetitive stuff he did in 2000. The Rock had the opportunity to finally get serious and what do we get? The same lame jokes. Rock failed miserably and that is even if Cena had never stepped foot in the ring and got in his face. Your act is tired, Rocky. I can't wait to see Cena whip your candy ass all over Miaimi during Wrestlemania.

Plus you can't call an act stale if you haven't seen it for 7 years. Then especially when you're going up against a guy whos schtick hasn't changed in 6 years or more, whilst he's been there constantly.

How many more Raw's is Rocky booked for between now and Mania? Dude, definitely needs to come up with some new material/get serious in the next few weeks or this is going to get embarrassing.

They are trying to make the people that boo Cena like him again and it's really starting to work. It was just awkward, honestly. But at the same time, it kind of works on that other level too. Even if someone thinks that Rock held himself back to allow Cena to look better, they're going to find themselves disappointed on some level that Rock would intentionally let himself get showed up like that. Which makes it look like Cena's in the right because Rock "isn't putting 100% effort" into it (ie : taking Cena apart). So yeah, WWE's gone all in on trying to make people boo Rock.

Just gonna add in some other quotes about who thought who won what... Well, Korpela's tweet is obviously a work. NOBODY can stand up to Punk on the mic. Punk cuts promos like he's running for office in a tough district. He will dig deep, pull all the skeletons out of your closet, and ruin your life (if you haven't lived a perfect one) in order to win a promo war. And if they don't let him do it on TV, he'll just do it on Twitter. Let's see Cena ever do that. Hell, let's see Rock ever do that.

If we're talking about construction of a promo along with content...then yes Punk is the very best. If we're talking about working a crowd into a frenzy, holding them in your hand and getting them to do everything on your own whim...then Rock is the best ever. In the world of entertainment...Rock wins. Punk is a pure wrestler and it makes sense his promos are more about content than entertainment.
