Cena won, but Rock played the perfect foil for him. From the crib notes to the whoring of Twitter to the silly insults to the pandering, right on down the line. The Rock gets "the business" of wrestling.

Cena won this round...however, he ultimately won't be able to make the huge majority of the crowd go against The Rock. No matter what he says, most of the crowd is still Team Rock. I just don't think he's a sellout in the face of the fans. The majority of fans just don't sympathise with Cena and "the boys". I know I don't. All that matters is they're happy the Rock is back. It ain't about politics for most of them... Pretty much. I couldnt care less if Rock was reading that shit off a teleprompter, Im sick of Cena and hes pussy be a star BS and Make a Wish shit. I watch to be Entertained and Cena fails miserably at that. Cena is nothing but one of the whiner fans that think Rock is a sellout.

IMO that entire thing was played to perfection.
Cena called out DWAYNE and thats what we got at the end of Raw DWAYNE , the fact he was trying to assure the fans and even more so himself that they are still the same person is proof of that.
IMO it's by design that on the week of Mania will The Rock emerge and absoloutley annihilate Cena...last year as all about putting doubt into Cena and calling him out for being phony etc and now the tables have turned Cena has all the confidence and swagger right now...and now it is DWAYNES turn to have to find "The Rock" basically.

I really, really hate the shoot style kayfabe breaking mess that goes on these days. Yeah Im more of an old school guy.
Rock never does promos like this, so its odd. He keeps it kayfabe. He does jokes, he insults, he goes to the crowd.
Cena comes off with the real life things, calls him Dwayne, etc. etc.
BUT as people said tonight Rock was meant to play the foil and he knows what hes doing. Of course people will go wild and say He doesn't have it anymore!!! but its working to perfection. He is helping the guy out. Big time.

I can't believe that so many people are actually clinging to the theory that Rock is going easy on Cena. I mean COME ON. Why is it hard to believe? He slaughtered Billy Gunn like nobody we've ever seen. You mean to tell me that he can't go after Cena with all the ammo he HAS to have ready for him? Come on, man. Rock can go harder than that, and probably would have, if he was allowed to. People need to remember that they've had A YEAR to plan this thing out and to think over every detail. You mean to tell me that the Rock has a year to think up a killer promo and that is the best he can do? No f***ing way.

"Dwayne Johnson wouldn't give a damn if this company closed its doors tomorrow."
I'm still waiting for a response on that one from anybody.

I find it quite peculiar that people always used to get on John Cena for pandering to the fans and smiling and glad-handing and generally ignoring the issues at hand...when that is precisely what The Rock did for the better part of 20 minutes tonight.

I can't believe that so many people are actually clinging to the theory that Rock is going easy on Cena. I mean COME ON. Nevermind the fact that he's only doing what he's always done. He can get serious, but he'd ALWAYS go for the catchphrase putdown. Rudy poo? Jabroni? Its always been there. But the thing is, Punk did his anti-Cena thing this Summer, and there was no silly BS there, so seeing this so soon after its like "meh".

I think if there's anything negative to be said, it's probably as said earlier. There's just not much material to go on with Cena that hasn't already been commented on. Everyone knows the guy is like a human smiley face and maybe there IS something to the theory of Rock being held back. The last thing this feud needs is for someone to end up coming off like a bully.

Thing is he started off good. Slow, but good.
I'm not gonna make any excuses for him. I think he flubbed, pure and simple. It can happen.

Again, I can't stress why Cena would even want Rock back if he thinks so little of him. I think a guy who hasn't been in the business for several years would be bushleague to him.
Oh well. I guess when you've beaten basically almost every single guy whose made a name for himself in this business in the last 15 years, you start expanding your horizons.
And that's exactly why I'm pulling for the Rock...as lame as he can be at times, goddammit I really don't need to see him "put over" Cena.

Cena got the upperhand no doubt and was on point with his promo but i think hes being legitimately disrespectful with two main things. The first is telling a guy who comes from a huge wrestling family that he isnt a wrestler and doesnt give a damn about the business. Yes, its a promo, yes, its RTWM but I do think that is something that could legitimately offend The Rocks family.
The second thing isnt even about The Rock and Cena. Its about respect between professional wrestlers in general. If he did have notes on his hand to prepare for a promo why the hell would you do what Cena did. It isnt even about being disrespectful to someone who was setting records for the company while Cena was jobbing in OVW, its about being disrespectful to someone whos a veteran.

I mentioned it in the Raw thread a lil, but it's just interesting to consider that:
On the one hand, if you go by crowd reactions/cheers/chants etc.. there's no question, Rock's going to win that every time, the dude still just has 'IT'.. look at the inane shit he had people chanting for pity's sake.
While on the other, content wise, at least tonight, Cena made him look completely ridiculous. In fact the interruption, saying his piece, and leaving a flustered Rock stammering the same old shit in the ring, really, really was impressive.
It's an interesting dichotomy of reactions and ways people are going to choose to look at it.
Which given their goal to get people to 'pick sides' is probably legit what they're going for.

Rock. He deconstructed Cena's (& by proxy "the boys") dumb argument easily by mentioning that he was there wrestling every day like they are. That he loves wrestling, like they do. He won me over completely when he mentioned that Macho, Piper, Stone Cold, Mick & himself got where they were through their effort, not by "having the boys speak for them." I LOVED that he mentioned that he got booed worse than Cena did when he was a face and got "Rocky sucks." I'm stretching a bit, but I think Rock's mention of the classic wrestlers plays right with Jericho, HHH & Undertaker being the "last of a dying breed." Nice touch.
Cena got a good jab in with the crib notes, but he comes off as such a f***ing knob to me. His whole "I'm doing it for the wrestlers in the back" stuff is so aggravating to me, the "Rock wouldn't care if WWE folded up tomorrow" line was bad too. But him just walking out irked me the most. I get he dropped a #pipebomb, but when someone comes after you like Rock did & when you've been calling him out, stay out there for the whole segment. No face I could think of would just walk out after they made a great argument or were in a blood feud. Not Austin, not Michaels, not Steamboat, no face would just walk out like Cena did.

Again, it was one promo in an incredibly confusing segment for a match that isn't happening for a month. Drawing bizarre conclusions like this seems a little premature at the moment.

That's funny, because the most entertaining part of Rock's promo tonight was Cena coming out and making him look foolish. Rock looked like he was gonna cry.
