To me, it's actually pretty realistic. Show two people (ESPECIALLY fighters) get into a verbal argument, you'll often see the guy getting insults thrown at him smile it off, whether it's getting to him/her or not.
This is a common human trait. It does not mean that Cena is no-selling anything.

At this point he's heard it all 10 times over anyway.

I agree with what you're saying. I've smiled whenever people started yelling at me. And yes, fighters do it as well because I did it when I was a Muay Thai fighter. But, it does make me laugh that so many people whined and bitched and moaned about him doing that to other people in the past, but for the most part, it's fine here.
I've never had any problem with it but, that's just me.

It's just hard to take anything seriously when he's smiling like a jackass. Imagine the great promos with Cena standing there with a shit eating grin. It just doesn't work.

Exactly. I think there are times someone can and should get under Cena's skin, like Punk did, like Jericho has, and at some point between now and Wrestlemania there should be a promo where Rock does the same, but for the most part I don't have an issue with Cena shrugging off most of the insults and criticisms levelled at him.

It didn't bother me at all. I thought he was just smiling to frustrate The Rock because his insults weren't working.

He's just living the 'Rise Above Hate' gimmick. In kayfabe he's just trying to piss The Rock off more than he already has by laughing him off and talking over him when he's trying to act like a hard man. It's a much better tactic than just sporting an angry look when Rock is getting in his face.
John Cena is just owning this feud in every way and I love it.

Well you never know, if it follows the usual pattern Wrestlemania could be quite painful for Cena fans. The last RAW before WM will be very telling. If it closes with Cena getting the upperhand, you can all but guarantee Rock is going over at Mania.

I don't get this critique of John Cena. I'm not a fan of the guy, never have been really, but the whole "He smiles when people insult him!! What an idiot!" arguement just rings false to me.
People do it all the time. Hell, I do it. If someone tries to insult me, I can't help but laugh at them. The ones who get all PO'd when someone insults them just come off as having very very low self-confidence.
Reacting that way just gives this impression that Cena knows he's a better wrestler that whoever is insulting him like, "Keep on crackin' wise chuckles, cause you know as soon as I get my hands on you..."

And to be clear, it's not something I'm raging over or even that concerned about. It's just mildly annoying.

If some overblown jerk made the same schoolyard insults and arguments and took every chance to call me a "bitch" ad nauseum, even I'd laugh in their face and shrug it off.

The other thing, at least with this feud, is the Rock's insults are so idiotic Cena must feel like he's being insulted by a middle school child with an inferiority complex. How can you not laugh at some moron calling you a "kung pao bitch?"

How can you not laugh at some moron calling you a "kung pao bitch?" Not gonna lie, if someone called me a Kung Pao Bitch, setting the mood by implying he was going to slap me with Kung Pao chicken, and he did all of this with a straight face, I would literally collapse into laughter. If anything, Cena's showing restraint. Don't get me wrong: there are plenty of times ol' Smirk Dog's grin has been out of place. It's just that this isn't one of those times.

But Cena was doing it while Rock went into serious mode. I dunno but grinning wildly while a guy threatens to rip your throat out just annoys me slightly.

Because it's really inconsistent. One minute he's smiling, and the next he's got his angry face, talking about how he's going to kick The Rock's ass and how this is the most important match in his career. That combined with the fact that they can both just stand in the ring, spouting catchphrases, without trying to attack each other, makes it really hard for me to actually buy this feud.
They both remind me of two middle school kids talking smack and saying how they are going to beat the other ones ass, when in reality they're both too scared to throw the first punch.

I liked it. The Rock's insults and accusations that Cena's scared both suck so it's no wonder Cena's smirking about it.
The only time Cena's smirk face is out of place is if the feud is very personal. I can't remember if he did it during the Edge feud or not but that was a personal feud with Edge breaking into Cena's house, slapping his dad etc. If Cena did his smirk face during an Edge promo there then yeah, it would look dumb and out of place.
With Rock though, whose worst thing he's done to Cena is called him a Fruity Pebble. Smirking like it doesn't matter at all makes sense.

IMO, it's a LOT more realistic than going all "SRS."

It didn't make me mad or anything but I did find it a bit weird that Cena asked for The Rock and not Dwayne Johnson yet Cena just smiled when The Rock looked him dead in the eye and said he was going to rip his throat out.
I really don't want them to hit each other before Mania but I hope they at least have a "I'm going to kill you" staredown.

And that is how it should be: Wade Barrett: attempted mutiny of RAW, made Cena his manservant = got mad Cena. The Rock: got caught reading off his arm, threatened him with Chinese food = smirk away.
