If I was the Rock, right in his face telling him I'm gonna tear out his throat, and he's looking away laughing and mumbling crap.... I would've slapped him as hard as I possibly could. This isn't about him acting realistically, or holding back til the week before WM, or not embracing the hate. This is about a professional wrestler not going along with the segment. If he was midcard and pulled this s***, do you think we'd EVER see him again? He did the same thing to Truth. Completely dismissing what was going on and just did his own thing. Regardless of who's giving the better promos, each week makes me lose faith in Cena more and more for all the unspoken things. Or maybe, just maybe that is what they want Cena to do! If that's true, then they fully deserve the sagging ratings. Or maybe there's really something I'm not getting about Cena. Who knows.

Yeah, I've come to conclude that the Cena character has gotta be bipolar. The way that he is so passive aggressive with how Rock mocks him and his fanbase, but when Jericho did a much less more half-hearted job, Cena gave him the beating of a lifetime...to the point I was somewhat disturbed.

Guys I'm sure the best is yet to come with this slow-burner, I suppose starting off with Cena doing more no-selling of his opponents as per the status quo is a good way to make Rock go to that 'next level' with his personally-hated opponents like Austin. And in the process drag Cena to the upper level with him, hopefully.

It didn't bother me at all. I thought he was just smiling to frustrate The Rock because his insults weren't working. How does that turn to get me wanting to see them wrestle?

As somebody once put it, Cena's retaliation at insults is a lot like Ned Flanders's approach to them. The only way this can be confirmed is if Cena starts going on a tirade over every last RAW wrestler one day. Except with about 20 Lennys. Cena: "I don't know who the hell you all are, but I'm sure you're jerks!" Seth Rollins: "I only just got called up this week, what's going on?"

If you're a Cena fan: "Man look at that, Rock's is just running his mouth like always and it isn't even getting to Cena! I cannot wait to see Cena shut him up at WrestleMania!" If you're a Rock fan: "Look at that. Cena just smirking like an idiot while Rock rips him a new one. I cannot wait to see Rock wipe that smile off his face at WrestleMania!"

I'd smile too if I was besting the "great one" one the mic night after night.

Rock on the mic would always throw out the silly insults and essentially make his opponent look like crap compared to him. By smirking at him, Cena's not letting The Rock do that. Cena looks like he's above The Rock and his catchphrases.

Because this is professional wrestling. In every day life, smiling and nodding is probably the best way to react in that situation. It gets under your opponent's skin. But this isn't real life. Professional wrestling depends upon fans investing in one of the competitors. UFC, Boxing, Football, whatever, they can all get by on the prospect of real competition alone, two enter, best one comes out, but kayfabe is dead and WWE needs you to buy the story to care about the match. There are obviously fans who preoccupy themselves solely with the in-ring product, but the majority of pro wrestling fans who haven't left for UFC or other shoot combat sports, have stayed for the storylines those shoot sports can't provide.
All that needs to be said because when John Cena smiles and nods like an idiot when his arch-enemy is yelling insults in his face, I don't care. There are no stakes. If John Cena doesn't want Rock's blood, why should I? It's the exact reason I have not cared about what John Cena is doing since I started watching again. Cena-Punk was all about Punk. Punk wanted that belt more than anything. Cena wanted...a fair shot for Punk? The last time it seemed like Cena cared was when he joined Nexus but when Barrett got the better of him and had him fired, Cena just came back anyway and proved that nothing is ever really at stake with him. There is no drama. The story is worthless when John Cena smiles and nods.
