It's, gosh, like his character is doing it deliberately or something. As if he doesn't take Rock's cheeseball insults very seriously even if he takes the event seriously. Perhaps if Rock had actually torn into him with something new, it might've had an effect. Your merch sucks! You dress funny! What? Those wanting to see them make angry faces at each other, well, you're gonna be in luck but with weeks to fill they haven't done it yet. Next week's musical battle may lead to it, or they may wait another week or so. If WM was this weekend, it'd be a different story, I'm totally certain of that. Things are being brought to a boil, don't ram the heat up now then be left with nothing to do for the rest of the month but snarl in each others faces. Amazing. How these things are being missed by people amazes me. It is as if people's dislike of Cena has literally clouded them completely.

Tell me you're joking. It's not tricky a concept to grasp. Not at all. I get the opposite, in that if someone is not smirking or laughing they are also not treating it as a joke, I just don't think the situation stays logically coherent if you reverse the two connected conditions. I can't see how you can interperate it that way. I don't see how the concept is so inconcievable that you can't wrap your head around it.

It's not like I said repeatedly that I don't hate Cena or even that it doesn't bother me that much. No, it must be because I;m seething with hatred for John Cena. What the hell is the deal? The topic asked why people had a problem with. People answered the topic question why they had a problem with only for others to jump all over them and basically go "Well no, you're wrong." Is it bad of me to think there's something wrong with that? If you're okay with it then fine but people do have the right to think differently without being pigeonholed or argued down.

Plus there was the whole Kane feud where the story was Cena not giving into hate. How he had been called everything under the sun, been destroyed and beaten to hell by 3/4 of the roster and the only thing that got to him was his best friend being beaten to hell because of their association. The only things he was worried about were Zack and having a match with Kane. Hell, they practically wrote out how this was going to go down with that feud.

You have your "X, thus Y" set up properly and all that. I get that you believe that the smirk means that Cena's treating it as a joke. I just can't see why you think that smirks are exlusive with taking a situation seriously.

the weird thing is once in a while Cena gets REALLY mad about something that isn't anything different than any other time he has dealt with heels.
Someone can beat his ass with a lead pipe and he'll make some gay jokes...but then another feud when someone just pulls him out of the ring interfering with his match he acts like they personally peed on his grandmother.

It makes him look pretty arrogant, like he's above everything.

People know wrestling's a work so if you want to build a money match its a must the guys in the match take it seriously when they are face to face. There's a reason all the most hyped and anticipated MMA and Boxing fights all have heated builds, and also why the last time you see the fighters together before the fight they always have the serious face offs rather than some silly comedy hour.

As somebody once put it, Cena's retaliation at insults is a lot like Ned Flanders's approach to them.
The only way this can be confirmed is if Cena starts going on a tirade over every last RAW wrestler one day.

Somebody posted how they thought Cena's version of Ned's meltdown would go a while back- I think during his feud with Punk. It was great.

To be honest I have kind of been siding with Cena in this fued and I didn't even like Cena smirking during the Rock's promo. It's almost as if Cena is trolling the Rock. For a fued this big it just doesn't make any sense. Sure if the Rock was throwing out his stupid insults like "Fruity Peebles" and "Kung Pao Bitch", but he wasn't. I have never seen anything like this in a big money wrestling fued. There needs to be a point where these two get serious and in each other's face, this was the moment and they screwed it up.

There's nothing wrong, actually. It's just that sometimes he gets way too cheesy in some situations. And he puts on his serious face during random things, like when Punk called him ''New York Yankees.''
So yeah, other than some occasions,I think it's a great way of showing ''Rise Above Hate.''

If I was the Rock, right in his face telling him I'm gonna tear out his throat, and he's looking away laughing and mumbling crap.... I would've slapped him as hard as I possibly could.
This isn't about him acting realistically, or holding back til the week before WM, or not embracing the hate. This is about a professional wrestler not going along with the segment. If he was midcard and pulled this s***, do you think we'd EVER see him again? He did the same thing to Truth. Completely dismissing what was going on and just did his own thing.
Regardless of who's giving the better promos, each week makes me lose faith in Cena more and more for all the unspoken things.
