"Being great in Japan" doesn't mean the same thing that it did even 10 years ago. He's still Albert. A decent big man, but there's a lot of decent big men. It's hard to connect with the WWE crowd. It's just not the same thing as being a big deal in Japan, or on the indies.
Maybe they can salvage him as a Mark Henry type (midcarder with the occasional big push).

WWE never ignored his previous stint nor passed him off as a Japanese person. He was more of a Japanophile. And Giant Benard was just A-train in a Japanese setting. No, Giant Bernard was a badass. Bad Intentions is one of the best tag teams in the history of the medium. Then he comes to WWE and all that intensity and power is just...neutered. I don't know what happened. He had that same intensity during his final year in WWE. Just that he was wrestling squashes matches, had a short lived feud with Benoit, and got dismissed as an untalented hoss.

I still think the idea of a guy coming back improved from Japan and adpoting some of their culture is a cool idea. But they went with some really stupid thoughts with Tensai. IMO the biggest was never having him talk, or explain why he was dressed the way he was, or why he was back. He was just another generic savage monster heel (see; Umaga and Khali).

Maybe the key to rejuvenating wrestling is a week of shows in Japan. Imagine how great things would be once everyone's wrestled in Japan.

Japan has a way of making big guys seem better than they are - maybe it's because they're dealing with smaller workers, and the fans are more in awe of bigger guys? Meanwhile, like you said, fans tend to be very unimpressed with anyone fitting the "hoss" mold in the U.S., with very few exceptions. Maybe they've just seen it all before.

Have him come out, cut a worked shoot saying basically "you all know who I am, the powers that be gave me this ridiculous gimmick that both you and me hated" and hope and pray the fans buy into it. Have him be whoever he wants - Bernard, A-Train, Bloom, whatever.

Smarkbait, but yeah, it's pretty obvious Tensai didn't get nearly as over as WWE hoped he would, and considering he's nearly 40, it's not like he was ever going to be a long term prospect.
Only real question left is who to feed him to. I'd go with Sheamus. It's not like the crowds are exactly hot for del Rio either.

I wonder if any main event/upper card talent would be willing to take the Giant Bernard-style offense. That's probably why Tensai was dumbed down to begin with.

All I'm saying is that something's out of balance. Albert's not working because it's like by going to Japan he went Super Saiyan and became that much better than everyone else. There's got to be some way to bring everyone up to his level. Or maybe they just need to accept reality, wipe the slate clean and hire all new guys so Albert will be able to truly shine. Because if there's one thing crowds love and have always loved it's Albert.

I mean, no worse than any other ridiculous swerve or angle they were pulling around those times.

The thing is, I could handle the dumbing down of the moveset. That's just what happens when a guy comes into the WWE, usually. I just don't understand why they hit the slow-mo button.

I think it may be time to try that Artist Formerly Known As Prince Albert gimmick now.

Perhaps what they actually meant behind the scenes was that the Tensai character was a flop, but the performer was okay.

Bring in Morgan and have him team with Tensai?
Then they win the straps and we have a dominant tag team.
