I liked it when he spat green stuff on his hand - seems I'm the only one.
Off the listen to that Incredible Hulk song...

>Johnny sends him to destroy Punk or Cena. >Johnny gets him DQd. >Tensai gets annoyed and beats up Johnny. >He beats up Sakamoto, or whatever. >He trashes his gear. >Punk/Cena gets all congratulatory. >Tensai beats the piss out of the face. >Following week he cuts a promo about how stupid "Johnnys vision" was, acknowledges his past and talks about his time in Japan.
30 minutes or less and hes at least salavged into a mid card hoss.

Well, there were a few things wrong.
Saying he's a former WWE superstar and never mentioning his history, feuds, anything, and only mentioning his past online, made it look like they were trying to hide something. Hence the "Albert" chants.
Dressing him up like that was another killer, I mean, my goodness. What, so going to Japan makes you an emperor or something. You start spraying green mist. Green mist worked great for Tajiri, it added something to his character. But not for Tensai.
I think they could still use him, but he has to dump the gimmick.

I actually think they should have stuck with it for a while longer. Or, at the very least, not have hotshotted him into matches against big opponents right away. Even more, I wouldn't have put his first few squash opponents as thick, well-built guys like R-Truth and Alex Riley. Remember, Umaga came out to crickets in his first few weeks. And what started to turn the tide? He was beating up pencil-thin bump machines in his squashes, wowing people with his moveset by using it on people who knew how to bump for big moves and basically play ragdoll. By the time Umaga started facing the HHHs, HBKs, and John Cenas of the world, we knew this was a guy with a dangerous, varied moveset, and was undefeated and perhaps even unbeatable. I'm not saying Tensai would have gotten over huge, but if you stick with a guy just killing everyone in his path for long enough, he starts to gain heat, and people start to wonder who will be able to stop this man. Of course, he goes back to just being a generic hoss after he loses his first big match, but that's still more than they're getting out of him right now. And who knows? He could still mean something down the line. Umaga was still awesome even after his first loss, and was well on track to being among the finest big men of the past decade. That said, there was absolutely no way on Earth he was going to be ready in time for a summer feud with Cena. At least not with that gimmick. If they'd just debuted him as a big, give-no-s***/take-no-s*** bouncer with a mouthpiece (say, Abraham Washington) who just goes around killing everything in his sight, even interrupting matches just to destroy guys, THEN maybe they'd get behind a Tensai-Cena feud. But that gimmick was straight out of 1995. Nobody wanted to see it, much less the plodding, boring style that the gimmick seemed to require him to work. The thing is, they HAD to hotshot Tensai if they wanted to get their money's worth out of him. He's not a long-term prospect; he's nearly 40. He got rehired because he was a big guy who they thought was good enough that he could be inserted into feuds at the top of the card immediately, and credibly work with and put over the main event faces. I'm not saying they should have stuck with it for years. But 3-4 months, maybe even as much as five months, would have sufficed in legitimizing him and getting him over. They'd get as much money out of him in the fall as they'd have gotten out of him now. And in the fall, people might actually be able to accept him at the level of a John Cena, so when you put him over it doesn't seem like such a random, boring decision.

Too bad they had him lose, they could have honed in on his time as the Hip Hop Hippo and paired him with Brodus. Being both undefeated, they could win the tag belts and bring a lengthy reign and SOME credibility to the titles.

Smarkbait, but yeah, it's pretty obvious Tensai didn't get nearly as over as WWE hoped he would, and considering he's nearly 40, it's not like he was ever going to be a long term prospect. Only real question left is who to feed him to. I'd go with Sheamus. It's not like the crowds are exactly hot for del Rio either. I think a feud with Sheamus could put Tensai back on the map. They could have some awesomely physical matches and highlight each other's strengths, along with putting Sheamus in there with someone that can conceivably dominate him.

I don't know what he was doing in Japan...but I hate how slow the guy is and he doesn't have the raw power for his moveset to look brutal. At least, IMO
On top of that the name, fake tattoos, and ring entrance gear screamed mid-90's WWF mid-carder to me

I think the caricature Japanaphile gimmick is what got him. Hopefully they realize the talent they're working with, retool him a little and try again because he's absolutely 100% worth it IMO. I really hope they don't give up on him.

Damn shame, because I liked the guy.
Makes the WWE look stupid for putting him over John Cena, the WWE CHAMPION CM Punk, and others at the expense of what will turn out to be nothing.

he was great in the ring but honestly his gimmick was incredibly stupid --- he was doomed from the start

What they did was the equivalent of saying "He's got a past here, but it's not terribly interesting or important." Sort of like never bringing up "The man's man Steven Regal" when they talk about William Regal

Tensai is a much better wrestler than the Albert I remember. I wouldn't mind him sticking around, but hopefully they smartly re-design his character into something much more authentic.

Dude wtf? You don't have a new guy (I know...) beat Cena on RAW and then put him on Superstars.
They wasted Cena losing on free TV. Okay, so the Tensai Vs Cena feud is scrapped, why does that mean he's relegated to Superstars? So Tensai didn't live up to the hype, he's still a mega strong undefeated heel, why in the bloody buttf*** would you just piss that away? At least have the guy put someone over in a big PPV match first. GAH.

I mean if people don't care no amount of WWE hype would make someone beating Tensai a big deal.

Did they think someone that quietly came out, did goofy mannerisms, and beat people up was going to get booed? Against Cena?

This is at least the second time they painted meaningless Japanese symbols on some schmo in some weird attempt at magic. When you can hear the live crowd chanting "Albert" it is over. Plus, he was a midcarder at best before and now he is older. I agree with the observation that pushing a white guy as Asian is way past acceptable.
