I considered Texas to be the Midwest more than being the South. For the record, nobody in the Midwest thinks this, and when we hear it, we find it baffling. Nothing against Texas, I got lots of love for the state and its numerous contributions. It's just not the midwest. I live in Ohio, and that's considered midwest. It's just a misunderstood term, that or Hitogoroshi made a good joke like I thought at first. Texas = south, is this really even a discussion or?

I'm a Texan and, aside from Yankees, NO ONE considers it 'The South'. The South = Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, and I think that might be it.
Southwest = Arizona, New Mexico, El Paso.
Texas is its own region.

Texas is it's own region. I think Ohio is important enough to have it's own region too. Hmmph.
And yeah, I didn't like Dok when I was a kid. I don't like Hayes now. Weird

Hayes commentated in WCW. Forgot if he was any god, but he could have been a heel announcer and been himself

I think that what we can take away from this topic is that Texans are way too proud of their state.

I think that what we can take away from this topic is that Texans are way too proud of their state. I wouldn't say that. With so many great contributions to sports, the arts and culture in general, there's a lot to be proud of. If I were from Texas, I'd be exceedingly proud. Same for if I was from Ohio. That said, I wouldn't call them their own region. If that were so, Illinois, Minnesota and Washington State would all qualify as their own region, but they aren't. Question for the Texans, and I don't mean offense by this but rather as a means of curious discussion, what do you find so offensive about being considered part of the South?

Not so much offensive, but I think us Texans just prefer to think of our state as its own entity, as opposed to being part of a particular region. Even if we were located up north, I don't think we'd want to be labeled as part of the Northeast or Midwest. I think part of it has to do with the massive size of the state. Another has to do with the fact that, aside from far east Texas, no other part of the state resembles the other southern states. Far west Texas (El Paso specifically) resembles the Southwest but no other part of Texas does. Far East Texas (Jasper, Texarkana, Beaumont, Orange, Vidor, etc.) resembles the South but no other part of Texas does. It's just very hard to put a label on our state.

i think some of it may come from the fact that texas was an independent republic when it joined the US while the rest of the south was always part of the US. so it doesn;t want to get lumped in with the rest of that lot that didn't have to go it alone like they did.

For what it's worth, I've lived in Michigan my whole life and hear other life-long Michigan residents speaking with a "Southern" accent from time to time.
It's weird, and I don't understand it. I realize that there is such a thing as a "Michigan accent," so maybe these other people are trying to over-compensate?

I think it's a little different from the southern accent from the Deep South, but it apparently still sounds southern.

I think it's a little different from the southern accent from the Deep South, but it apparently still sounds southern. It does indeed. In my area (my city is basically right on Lake Michigan, towards the southern part of the state, just west of Grand Rapids) the people to the south (between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo) are the biggest culprits. Words like "warsh" and "fixin' to" and "y'all" are just the way they've always spoken, and I cannot for the life of me understand why. Maybe it's the meth. Apparently crystal meth is really popular in that area. And back on-topic: I always thought that Dok Hendrix was a lame, LAME neutering of Michael Hayes. Glad he's back to his old self on TV nowadays.

Incredible bump.
And, wow, for all the talk in this thread about him being "neutered," that promo image screams of "I have no genitalia."
