I'm normally not a poster, but my friend Knight Wagner posted this, and I thought it needed to be shared.
Knight is a pretty awesome indie wrestler based out of Davenport, IA and has worked with a lot of great promotions, including AAW.
Anyways, here it is. Take it as you will.
Apparently Davey Richards, Tony Kozina and Kyle O'Reilly were booked to appear on a show in Central Iowa called APW. After showing up incredibly late (which he does all the time on every show I've ever been on with him) Davey bullied the promoter about switching the card up. I may be wrong but I'm assuming the card got shuffled on the assumption that he wasn't showing and and they arrived too late to get put back on the card, until Davey spoke up and forced him to put them all back on. They changed into their gear, took their pay in advance and went to the car to get athletic tape, then never came back. They made off with $350.
It's serious shit and Davey is banking on the promoter not pressing charges and getting away with it. However, there are other things to think about here and that's the internet. Davey was advertised for this event and basically no-showed, stole money and is now liking all references to it on his personal Facebook page which means he's having an ego and laughing about it.
Best thing to do here, folks, is blow it up online. Send the story to as many wrestling news sites you can. Tag people like, Brian Kelley, P.w. Ponderings and Jerome Cusson in it on Facebook (sorry Jerome and Brian, if you want to stay out of this I understand but I hope you feel the same) and spread it as hard and fast as you can. If he wants to quit in 2013, if you guys can help people get organized, you can cut that much shorter.

Man Independent wrestling can be so sleazy at times So true right? I honestly believe its because these massive marks see WWE television, see people in power being outrageous and think THIS MUST BE HOW TOP GUYS ACT SO WILL I!!!! Not realising its all an act, those people are millionaires and the indy folk are morons in bingo halls.

officialfan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wrestling&action=display&thread=441681It was talked about here too. Jaysin Strife brought it up on his twitter page. If you know the promoter, or well, you know this Knight wrestler, that guy needs to sue Davey and the rest of the MMA circle jerkers because shit like that shouldn't be tolerated. Pro wrestling has a bad reputation, from sleazy wrestlers to sleazy promoters, but this shit shouldn't be tolerated, no matter who it is.

This is why the territory promoters were usually legit tough guys or had legit guys working for them they could trust. Heck, imagine some punk like Richards pulling this on Stu Hart, Dick the Bruiser, Fritz Von Erich, or the Funks, even in JCP with Race and Ole working for him. This guy would get torn into pieces. Unfortunately alot of indy promoters these days are just fans themselves that have the extra money to run shows. I really like Richards in ring work, but this just makes me sick. He's nothing more than a street thug and I hope he gets what is coming to him.

If this is true, wow, Davey bored me a bit, but I didn't think he was a scumbag.

Not that Davey isn't a scumbag in this situation but I still kinda chuckle every time I see "they made off with $350". The way it's being talked about you'd think it was thousands.

To people who probably make little profit on these shows, it seems like it. If you put in however many hours of work you needed to make $350, and hopefully for you it's not much, and you didn't get paid, you'd probably feel pretty shitty.

Not defending Davey at all here (if it's true that is) but if the promoter pressed charges, Davey probably wouldn't have much to worry about. I know it varies, but I think in most states theft is only a felony if it's over $500 (assuming it wasn't violent). If the promoter did press charges, Davey would probably be looking at a few hours in jail and a fine. Maybe even probation or something.
Not that it really matters though, it's still a scummy thing to do. However, I feel we're not getting the whole story; especially since the OP didn't seem 100% sure about what Davey and the promoter argued about. I haven't read the other replies so I may have missed some important info confirming or refuting this story, but I hope the Richard's hate around here doesn't cause people to blindly accept this as truth.

Small claims court is a thing. Haven't you ever seen TV courtroom shows? They routinely sue for amounts as small as $100 (probably even less). They exist in real life as well. Otherwise people would probably settle all disputes like this with violence or not at all. In other words. We may see Davey Richards on Judge Mathis or something. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen an indy wrestling lawsuit on TV.

Damn that's some really shady shit. Although if that last line is true then I'm at least happy on this front. IF all of this is true then I hope everyone stops booking Richards and his cronies. DR can f*** off and become a firefighter or a jui-jitsu master or whatever he wants, this is unacceptable. It's not fair to rip people off, they come across as merely thugs stealing money off people because they think they're tougher than them.
