As much as Davey is right about Steen (he's an overgrown 14 year old, basically, and it will get old sooner than later), Richards has very little ground to stand on. Davey's reign was ZZZZZZZZZZZZ and that's something that no amount of training will compensate for. Athlete or not Steen has done something that Richards couldn't do, make people care.

like I've said many times before, and I'm not sure how relevant this is, but what does it say about Davey Richards that he was the underdog babyface and Kevin Steen was the Complete Monster heel (well, as much of a Complete Monster as a wrestler can be) and the fans were screaming for Steen to beat the crap out of him and take his belt?

If making his opponent look good isn't his job, exactly what IS his job?

Geez Louise, I remember back in 2007 I used to have debates with my friend about Davey and Tyler. He was the reason I bought ROH's IPPV's after Danielson and Nigel left. I always thought Davey was going to be the next big thing on the Indies, having read this thread I don't see myself supporting the asshole ever again.

I LOVE Davey's matches, and I often show his two matches with Kota Ibushi and Prince Devitt to people looking for new wrestling. But after this, Im having a hard time enjoying him. What a dick.

Yes..it...is. It's...not a real fight. It's a freaking show where another person and you stage the equivalent of a real fight for entertainment.
If you don't work with the other person to help make that flow to an enjoyable performance, then it sucks and despite them not being able to "hang" it's your fault for having such a prideful look at yourself.
So...yeah...that's a weird line.

I'm gonna say Davey deciding against coming is actually New Japan said don't bother. Disrespect in Japan is the worst thing you can do.

ROH wrestlers needs to stay far away from doing shoots for Highspots. I said it in the thread about Richard's shoot interview, but I personally think it's pretty stupid for indy guys in general to do highspot/RF Video shoots. They're either too afraid to say anything interesting(or have nothing interesting to say), or like Richards did, they say things they ultimately regret. A former WWE/WCW guy says a mean thing about a wrestler in a shoot? Not really a big deal, as he/she is probably enough of a draw to negate any personal heat caused by a shoot. An indy guy though may not have that luxury. It doesn't help that the interviewers often ask questions to elicit controversial answers.

What a bunch of dumb douchebags. They truly do NOT get why people were giving them attention over this. They do. But they don't care because they feel like they are so much better than us "marks". I wish wrestlers would just realise that without "us stupid marks who don't have a right to comment on this business" they don't have a job. The funny thing about that to me is, I started working as a promoter's assistant for an indie back in February or March, and since getting involved in the business I am a lot more interested in people's opinions, not less. Especially fans. If people don't buy tickets, we don't make money. To be fair though, I think a lot of times when a wrestler says "Well, who cares what that person thinks they're just a mark" it's really that they're kind of consoling themselves about a harsh bit of criticism or maybe even a deliberate insult they were on the receiving end of. I do think a lot of fans would be less quick to criticize the work people in the business do if they knew how hard it really is, and how much a lot of the guys beat themselves up when they botch promos or screw up in the ring. Same thing with the promoter who runs a show and doesn't draw well because he failed to advertise enough, or maybe he booked the wrong kind of show for a certain market. It's not a good feeling, and it's not just the loss of money that hurts. It's like somebody put their heart and soul into their work, and they blew it in front of everyone. It can be a painful way to fail, in more ways than one. That doesn't mean I think fans should hold back on expressing their opinions. In fact, I think the fan that cares enough to be very opinionated should take it a step further and get involved somehow.
