I know what Gene said but dont think for a second they will decline when they are inducted. Nope, they said they wouldn't decline - but what you said is that they're begging to get inducted which isn't true. If you want to talk shit about them that's fine, but at least make it true.

I'm kind of glad he did. I know it sounds weird, but when they were announced, it didn't seem right. I mean, yeah GnR has been around since '85...but it still seemed too soon in contrast to a LOT of other bands who should go in first.

Sure did, in '09 rockhall.com/inductees/run_dmc/They're hugely influential and important Rap musicians, which is why they don't belong in a Rock hall. Rename it Music and all of a sudden they fit in nicely. Wow, learn something new everyday. I honestly didn't know they got inducted. That has more to do with their collaboration with Aerosmith than their music in general. I definitely don't believe Run DMC or Madonna should be anywhere near the rock n roll hall of fame. I will admit that I was happy when MJ and Prince got inducted though. MJ I think is the only one to have been inducted twice. However, for King Crimson, Barry White, Maiden, Priest, Journey, and Carpenters to not have been inducted yet just seems really wrong actually. I can see bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit getting in before them.

How is it a farce with the likes of Michael Jackson, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones, Prince, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, and etc inducted? Yeah, but for every deserving Rock and Roll (key words here) artist inducted, there's 5 Madonnas, Abbas, and Run D.M.C. - all artists that don't belong anywhere NEAR a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rename it the 'Music Hall of Fame' and all the criticism goes away, Madonna is not Rock. I actually think Run D.M.C. is as Rock and Roll and has as much of a right to be there as anyone. As does Madonna. Rock and Roll is a general term. If you're not gonna let artists in who aren't technically "Rock and Roll", then that means anyone who was ever in Motown can't be in the Hall of Fame. All the blues Pioneers can't be in the Hall of Fame. There isn't a damn thing wrong with Pop Acts, Blues Singers, R&B Singers, and yes Rappers being in the Hall of Fame.

I say they need to lock Axl and Slash in a room and neither of them are allowed to resurface until they get their shit together.

it's more of an axl issue than a slash issue. slash has moved on from it long ago and has said he doesn't even know why axl won't talk to him. it all comes down to axl's ego.

I would disagree heavily, Rock and Roll isn't a general term IMO. Now Pop, that's a general term, I see Rock and Roll as being very specific; and only making up a minority of the inductees. As far as Blues innovators go, they're absolutely Rock and Roll because they built the foundation for Rock. It's the difference between Chuck Berry and Lady GaGa, which one is more Rock and Roll? Madonna was never and never will be Rock and Roll, I would doubt that she considers herself Rock, so why should anybody else? The Hall is a joke anyway, but Rock and Roll isn't a catch-all title, it's named that so a group of suits and ties can put in all of their favorite, multi-platinum Pop princesses and princes, and leave out real Rock bands like Motorhead, Rush, KISS, etc. etc. etc.

I normally like Eddie, but I feel he's incredibly off-base with KISS. His main argument is always that they should have new makeup. I agree to an extent, but the guys (Gene and Paul) are in their 60's, is this really time for a reinvention? This isn't the 80's anymore, KISS isn't a band so much as they are a staple of pop culture, they're not going to f*** with that. And going off the title, I'm going to assume he has a problem with them appearing on DWTS. You know what? Too bad, so sad, I'm sure KISS isn't losing sleep because Eddie Trunk doesn't approve. He needs to realize that these aren't the hell-raising, scary guys they were seen as in the 70's, this is the 60 years old version of KISS, and if they want to go on a show like DWTS what does it matter? If Eddie Trunk had it his way, all of the members of KISS would still be together, they'd never play TV shows or release any experimental albums, and they'd be playing clubs just to "keep it real". Trunk needs to get over it already. He wants all these old bands to keep it 100% Rock and Roll like they're 20 years old again, he doesn't like Steven Tyler on AI either, too bad dude.

IMO no, not in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His legacy, his effect, and his major contributions were to Pop music. Just because I don't feel he belongs doesn't take away from what he accomplished, I just don't consider him Rock and Roll. Hell, he was called The King of Pop.

Well, technically even though he was called The King of Pop. They extended to the King of Pop, Rock, and Soul. With songs like Beat It, Dirty Diana, Heartbreak Hotel(Jacksons material), Torture, Give In To Me, and the majority of his Off The Wall material he definitely was more pop/traditional rock. I understand what you are saying though. Maybe they should just have two Hall's.

F*** KISS. They made a f***ing disco song for christ sakes who the hell are they to talk! Simmons has always been and always will be a corporate whore who whores himself out at every opportunity. Be it an embarrassing reality show or their embarrassing bulls*** merchandise.
His opinion is that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is s***ty, but he won't decline the offer cause he knows there's a paycheck. No integrity or class. I bet he'd eat dog s*** on TV for a paycheck.

I say they need to lock Axl and Slash in a room and neither of them are allowed to resurface until they get their s*** together. they open the room after 12 hours of no sound coming from it to find a note from both saying they ran away to get married.

I don't know if this is the thread for it, but what happened between Axl and Slash? Many years of Axl being a douche and basically being a dictator of his band. Not an isolated incident, really. Being part of a successful band takes it's strain, especially when you're with the same guys night after night. I can't tell you who is in the right, since I think both guys' musical progression without one another tended to suck. Chinese Democracy wasn't good and I can't stand Velvet Revolver. Both guys have very large egos (rightfully so to some extent) and neither one is going to back down.

The one part I agree with Orange on...
Just rename it the Music Hall of Fame to stop all the whining. Although, that may open the floodgates ("It ain't legit till Beethoven is in it!")
Pop Music HOF it is then! ...but then some would take exception to some heavy bands being called "Pop". Ugh, forget it.
