"I ask not to be inducted in absentia."
Translation: "I know that they'll induct me anyway, but I want an extra footnote on inductee lists so that people will remember that I made a fuss about this. Slash won't get that footnote, so I'll get the induction and then some. I win!"
Translation: "Mom! Mom! I'm going to go down the slide! Mom! Mom! Did you hear me? Mom! I'm going to go down the slide! Mom! I'm climbing up the slide! Mom! Mom! I'm going to go down the slide! Mom! Are you watching? Mom! I'm at the top! Mom! I'm going to go down! Do you see me, Mom? I'm ready! I'm going to go down the slide! Mom! I'm going! Mom! Here I go! Mom! Mom! Are you watching me?"

As the youngster I must ask....what exactly is the beef between axl and slash? No one's 100% sure but it mostly boils down to the fact that Axl's an overgrown petulent child.

As the youngster I must ask....what exactly is the beef between axl and slash? Axl formed the band with Tracii Guns thus the name Guns n' Roses (combo of Axl Rose and Tracii Guns) Slash joins a year and a half later and wont join the band without his buddy Steven on drums. so Axl and Izzy see Slash is talented so they agree and Slash starts living with Izzy along with Axl and Duff. they get famous. Steven almost kills Erin who Axl is married to at the time, so Axl fires Steven...and Slash and Axl kinda start being at odd's because "you fired mah friend!!" stuff...Illusions tour happens which Axl didnt want to go on because he felt he was unhealthy. and that Slash wasnt in the best spirits addiction wise as he was apparently on heroin heavy at the time. Izzy basically goes "f*** this shit" and leaves the group. Axl decides it would be high time to protect his creation after having to pay Tracii Guns a crazy amount of money over lack of songwriting credit for songs on AFD and GNR Lies...and has Slash and them sign a contract basically saying Axl is the owner of the name Guns n' Roses. they record the cover of 'sympathy for the devil' for the interview with the vampire soundtrack. and this causes more tention in the group at Axl's longtime friend from indiana Paul Tobias plays dueling lead with slash on the track which for some reason pissed Slash off. Slash publicly quits the band in 95 on MTV. according to Izzy and Del James....that was how the rest of the lineup heard about Slash quitting as he didnt bother telling anybody. fast forward to 1998...Zakk Wylde is with the band at the time, and Duff is there still. Zakk is for bringing Slash back to the band and convinces Axl to give him another shot. according to Zakk and Axl....Slash showed up with an attorney and a demo tape, played Axl the music that would later become the VR songs "fall to pieces" and "slither" Axl was excited to start working on lyrics, according to and interview Zakk did on Trunk's boneyard XM upon Axl saying he is excited to work on those songs, Slash looked his lawyer, and freaked out and left without saying anything to Axl. which caused Axl to look at duff and say "well, i love wasting my time" and that was the last time Axl and Slash were together...from what ive pieced together from interviews with Axl, Slash, Izzy, Del James, Tracii Guns and Zakk Wylde.

Once again Axl wants the attention on himself, and this letter does just that. It's not about GNR going into the Hall of Fame now, it's that they're going in, but Axl declined.

Ok hold on...from that story right now, yes Axl has an attitude but it sounded like Slash was the baby when that happened in 98

So as much as Axl has been a douche, I don't think Slash has been innocent in this whole beef.

ITS ALL ABOUT HIM!!" but the sex pistols write a letter...which ranks at about an 8 on a Scott Steiner level of "ok...what are they going on about??" and the sex pistols letter is seen as awesome and "TEH PNK RKZ!!!!!"

Zakk who is good friends with Slash spoke to Slash about what Axl was purposing and when Slash revealed Axl had never spoke to him about it Zakk went back to Axl and told him he was out because he didnt feel comfortable stepping on Slashs toes like that

Yet if the famous GNR lineup were to reunite by some miracle, the same fans that were begging for a reunion for years would say "they're just not the same" and express disappointment because they aren't playing at their prime. Just let it go. Treasure what they gave and move on. This is what I'm saying. There's a lot of head scratching criticism(not necessarily here but elsewhere mostly) that I'm reading. I've heard people say it would somehow be better if Axl just didn't say anything and just not show up. I've heard people call Axl writing a cordial, harmless letter a dick move. A whole lot of "get back together already!". I'm a firm believer in the concept of a band breaking up if they don't wanna do something anymore rather than push it out and produce material they don't believe in. I understand someone wanting a band to somehow come back and retain their former glory but it's never as easy as it sounds. Appreciate the great music they gave you and embrace the infinite amount of other great music out there.

That's not all exactly true, but close enough to it. Steven did almost kill Erin, but that wasn't why he was fired. He was fired for being so f***ed up on drugs. Civil War, the only track he appears on on Illusions, was spliced together from like 60 some takes. Slash was pissed about Paul Huge being on top of Sympathy because he wasn't informed of it didn't like Huge and thought he sucked, and even Huge himself admits he wasn't really good enough to be in the band, but was helping Axl out while he got the band he wanted together. Heard many different tales of why Zakk never stayed with Guns, but basically it boiled down to not wanting two lead guitars. Not sure about the stuff Slash wrote being VR stuff, but the first Snakepit album is tunes Slash had wrote for Guns that Axl didn`t like.

Eddie Trunks' take 13-Apr-12Guns, Axl & The R&R Hall 4/13/12: Lot of talk and active discussion on Twitter with me and fellow fans about Axl Rose's decision to decline the R&R Hall induction of GnR. As you know I rally against the Hall and the total disrespect they have for legendary rock artists who have been snubbed (Kiss, Purple, Rush to name a VERY few) or waited forever to get in. However you read the reasons of Axl's letter I am thrilled he is not going. For once after snubbing so many bands, the Hall themselves are being snubbed! Let's be honest, this was about one thing from the Hall's end, them instigating a reunion and getting the turnstyles moving in Cleveland. You really think this private club has such love for GnR that they are inducting them first ballot off of two total albums with the "classic" lineup? Not even VH got that! It was about them needing the pop for the event and new broadcast partner HBO. Axl has many issues for not attending, and I respect and congratulate the members that will attend, but I love seeing the Hall NOT get what they demand when they demand it for once. Maybe if more don't play the game and decline some change can finally be made. Again, I know Axl's reasons are deeper than that, but I love the end result. And for everyone saying it's a snub to the fans how exactly? You need the R&R Hall who has disrespected hard rock for years to validate GnR as a great band? A private club that fans DO NOT vote in is worried about and for the fans? Give me a break! The fan outcry is because that segment also thought this would lead to a reunion, or at least a good train wreck. Time to forget about the reunion talk. If you like current GnR embrace it, and by all means check out the great music Slash, Duff & Steven are doing now! Of course I would love to see a reunion myself when and if the time and vibe is right, but to have the Hall be the catalyst? Not a chance. Finally anyone who thinks I am cool with this because of some relationship with Axl you are dead wrong! I met Axl twice in my life for interviews. I am MUCH closer with the guys who will be on the stage tomorrow night in Cleveland. Again, I congratulate them all and yes they are deserving, but there was something bigger at play here that the Hall wanted to use to their favor, and it appears to have backfired. Perhaps if they didn't snub legends for decades in hard rock they would have a bit more clout and respect. Two more quick things, I am so vocal about the Hall because so many have no idea who is and isn't in and how awful they have been to hard rock & metal. It needs to be exposed! Most media smile and give the talking points they are being fed. Also, for all saying, start your own Hall, of course that would be great and I have had some very early talks. But it would be nice to see the one that exists just get it right! Finally, OF COURSE, there are a TON of deserving bands currently in the Hall. But the ones they ignore for decades are mind blowing over others that have gone. eddietrunk.com/index.cfm/pk/view/cd/NAA/cdid/434783/pid/401816

Myles Kennedy has cancelled an appearance saying he is needed in Cleveland. looks like Slash got his wish to do a gnr set with duff and matt with Myles on vocals.
also Izzy wrote a letter too
"I have waited up to this point to see what would become of the GNR induction into RRHOF. I would like to say THANK YOU and GRACIAS to RRHOF for the acknowledgement of our works over the years as a band. BIG THANKS to all my bandmates who helped get us to where we are today. And, of course, THANK YOU to all of the people on this planet (including, but not limited to, the entire universe and way way beyond, etc., etc., etc.) who have supported Guns N' Roses from day one. Adios, Amigos!
Izzy Stradlin
LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL!"
and MTV posted a letter too
"To: W. Axl Rose, Guns N' Roses Fans and Whom It May Concern,
Greetings from New York City, which is approximately 490 miles from Cleveland, site of this weekend's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and roughly 50 bazillion miles from whatever Bedouin caravan Mr. Rose is currently encamped with — though, to be honest, it feels much farther removed from both. Especially given the reaction most GN'R fans have had to Rose's open letter to the Hall of Fame, which he published Wednesday and which has subsequently turned him into the most hated man on the Internet.
Here's the thing (and, really, the reason I'm writing this letter): Despite the thousands of comments his letter has generated — which largely run the gamut from "YOU SUCK" to "Axl Rose is a freaking whiny-ass bitch" — I'm happy to be in the minority of people who seemingly have no problem with it whatsoever. In fact, I think it's pretty awesome.
Because I support Axl Rose. And yes, I am aware that, in the past, I have called him "the creepy old guy with the Raiders jersey who lives on top of the hill" and compared him to Lil Wayne. And sure, I realize his recent, uh, output might not be on par with Guns' previous efforts (anyone can have a bad 20 years). But after reading his letter, none of those things matter. Or, if anything, they actually made it better for me. Because Axl Rose is a rock star. Maybe the last one standing. He is an anachronism and an enigma. There will never be another like him, and really, his missive to the Rock Hall is just further proof of all those points.
To wit: There are a lot of words in Rose's letter (more than 1,000 of them), none of which are "apology." This is because Axl never apologizes. Because he doesn't have to, and he doesn't care if that offends you. He also never allows himself to be backed into a corner — and everything from his unrelenting blood feud with Slash to the 15-year wait for Chinese Democracy is basically proof of this — and he intimates at several points in his letter that everyone from the HOF committee to his former bandmates was basically attempting to do just that. So rather than be intimidated, Rose just decided to walk away from the whole thing. As he writes, "No one's taking the ball and going home. ... From my perspective ... the ball's never been in our court."
It's easy to call Rose a jerk for doing this, but, really, he is a jerk. It's what makes him who he is and why he's still able to sell out arenas around the world. We've come to expect nothing less, and yet we're willing to vilify him for acting the way he always has.
In some bizarre way, by skipping the induction (and asking his name not be mentioned in absentia), Rose displays a supreme level of actual integrity. Unlike, say, Ozzy Osbourne, who previously asked that his band Black Sabbath no longer be considered for the Hall only to show up at the 2006 induction and call it an "achievement," Axl won't come crawling back. And unlike fellow 2006 inductees Blondie, he spared anyone the ugly onstage feud that surely would've erupted by simply saying, "No thanks." He does what he wants and only what he wants. And the same goes for that much-discussed GN'R reunion, which he shuts down in the letter because, really, it's "time to move on."
And that last quote should be taken to heart by all the Guns fans out there raging against Rose today. Because, really, it is time to move on. Move on from your misguided beliefs that Rose is ever going to change or suddenly have a moment of clarity. It's been, like, 20 years now, and he's never wavered from his original point: No reunion, not ever. Guns N' Roses are still a band and they still tour, and if you don't like it, then don't come out to the shows. Even though you probably still will.
So, sure, be angry with Axl today. Make claims of never listening to his music again (which would suppose he's ever going to make music again) and accuse him of putting himself before his fans. But don't take him to task for being the same person he's been for 25 years now, because, really, you wouldn't want him to change. Not for a reunion tour, not for an induction ceremony, not for anything. He will continue to blaze his own path whether you follow him or not. And I applaud him for doing so. He is Axl Rose, after all. He is rock and roll in an era where that phrase has increasingly less clout. We want him on that wall. We need him on that wall. It's about the only way we can sleep at night, knowing somewhere, Axl is watching over us all. And writing open letters to let us know he still cares.
Sincerely, James Montgomery"

I think Myles Kennedy replacing Axl is really lame. I dont think they should have a replacement at all and just not perform. Axl can never be replacement and having a replacement seems kinda desperate. They have inducted people before who didnt perform but for some reason they want a "big shebang" for GNR and without Axl you just cant do a proper one so why bother

Axl or Bust. No matter how good the performance with Kennedy is, everyone will just be wishing Axl was there.

My only question is: Who is James Montgomery?

Meanwhile in Cleveland, Guns N' Myles has people asking "Axl who?" honestly, ive never been a fan of Myles and his overly pitchy clean vocals he brings to the table. I am still amused that nobody on that stage had any part of the formation of the band. nor did they have any say in the name of the band...it would have been cool to have Axl and Izzy show but i know that Izzy wouldnt have done it without Axl. while they sounded great musically last night. i think it would have been equally as cool if Axl and Izzy did an acoustic set together as the two founders of the group. still find it hilarious though that Rob Trujillo and Josh Klinghoffer got to be inducted to the rock n' roll hall of fame while the hall said which members of gnr got in. also, *reads izzy's letter* BAH IZZY IS AN ASSHOLE AND NEEDS TO GET OVER IT!!! HE WANTS IT ALL ABOUT HIM SO HE WONT SHOW BLAH BLAH BLAH!! i mean...we can get on Axl's case right? why not hang Izzy from the same rope? also...John Frusciante is an asshole too for not showing up, since it wouldnt be a "john bj fest" he didnt go!! what an ass!
