Cena's half was good but I still don't get how Punk saying and doing what made him face a little over a year ago is now somehow making him a heel and it seems 3/4 the audience feels the same. Cause when you've been champ for a year, it just comes off as bitchy. Not really and especially not when faces of the company tell you to your face on multiple occasions that you haven't done shit.

The problem is that Punk still has a point. He's busted his ass for 9 months and he's exactly where he was when his reign started: below the "really important" people. He's put in the work, but he's still viewed as inferior. Why shouldn't Punk take issue with that? He should be demanding respect and for people to say he's the best in the world. If he doesn't, nobody would talk about him because all the WWE wants to focus on is Cena/Rock/HHH/Lesnar/HBK. Punk is the WWE Champion and is fighting for attention over people that are only around 1/4 of the time he is. Punk couldn't buy a Main Event Match if he had 10 billion dollars while all of those other people get them all the time. He's the WWE Champion and has absolutely jack shit to show for it. He's right to be frustrated.

I mean, what if Cena actually puts over Punk at NoC? Cena can have his rematch with Rock. I mean Cena and Punk always put on a good match so I'm excited if this is the definite direction.

Punk looks absolutely disgusted with this angle. He really does. You can tell when he's feeling it, and he's so not right now. I probably wouldn't either if I was in the midst of a long title reign getting huge face pops every night, and all of a sudden I'm reduced to whining about "respect" constantly, inexplicably. Punk was completely set up as a one-dimensional, petulant child strawman for Cena to tear down.

I can't agree with Punk, considering he IS being whiny and forcing people to placate his ego, tell him he's the best in the world and et cetera.
But I sure as hell know that I can't agree with Cena either. Regardless of how Punk is acting now, for nine months, he did his best to stay afloat with the WWE Championship, but at every turn, he was overshadowed by everyone that stepped in his path. Cena, Rock, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, even John Lauranaitis and AJ. But he still delivered, just no one noticed because he wasn't main event.
So he has to beat Cena AGAIN, in his hometown, to earn Cena's respect. And if he picks anyone else, from Curt Hawkins to Daniel Bryan to Brock Lesnar, he won't deserve it because it's not Cena.
It just goes back to this whole thing with the WWE's babyface scene. They're all arrogant assholes, and Punk just happens to come off more arrogant and assholey than them, turning him heel.
Somewhat unrelated, but this makes me also miss heel commentators. This would be the perfect spot for a Heenan or Ventura to chime in and say that all Cena wants to do is goad him into a title shot in his hometown and trick Punk into a situation where he can't possibly be seen as the best or a hero.

I really don't get how Cena calling Punk's entire reign essentially useless and THEN trying to STILL GET HIS TITLE SHOT equates to him telling 'the truth'. Sheamus/Del Rio may be boring as all hell, but it isn't insulting my intelligence as much as this feud is.

That's something that almost everybody has to go through. Punk busted his ass for 9 months? Cena busted his ass for two years after entering the main event before becoming the undisputed top guy. Before 2007, HHH, HBK, Batista, Undertaker, and Hogan were all more important than him. And yet he never bitched and whined about lacking respect.

Yes, Cena's promo was so spot-on about Punk's ego issues when WWE booking is the reason why Punk took a backseat in spite of his popularity. Gosh, I hate worked shoots. They're so f***ing terrible. This, basically. Punk had NO reason to take a backseat to Cena feuding with Kane, or Cena feuding with Show, or Cena feuding with Ace, or the MITB match. Instead of this being based on a tweener Punk pointing out that he deserves a chance to show that he can be the guy, he's a whiny heel while always face Cena is right. And I'm tired of everyone having to be a heel to cater to Cena, it's frustrating...especially after they finally figured it out last year with Punk.

I will concede Cena's parting comment about having to beat him to earn his respect was ultra-douchebag. But in terms of the story, it could just have been Cena's douchey way of cutting Punk down to size.

Yknow, this is opening my mind. Before I was on Team Vader. But now I'm like, maybe Luke's goals are more admirable than Darth Vader's.

I wonder how many people that were happy with what Cena said to Punk enjoyed what Rock was saying to Cena when he came back.

Most of the board also thought HHH was going over Lesnar. I thought Lesnar was. I just deliberately waited until after the submission hold to make my announcement.

But at no point did anybody call what Cena was doing worthless. That's what Cena did tonight. He completely buried Punk's reign as champion, making the past 9 months seem like they didn't matter.

So...WWE didn't want Punk to be the top face (one who was already second fiddle), so they made him a whiny heel who's message has come down to "yeah, I'm the champ, but people are better than me."
Cena delivered his stuff just fine, but for all the ways to detract from Punk's character's whining, Cena doesn't really answer why he's overlooked, and says to no longer be overlooked he needs to beat him again for the fourth time. Also, local sports team. What.

I wonder how many people that were happy with what Cena said to Punk enjoyed what Rock was saying to Cena when he came back. I'll happily admit to that one. Well it depends what part we're talking about. Cena's home truths to Punk tonight, reminded me of the video message Rock put out speaking home truths to Cena about "I've done all that already".

He's only "right back where he started" if you support his opinion that he, and he alone, should be the face of the company by providence. Not because it's the WWE Champion not main eventing, but because CM Punk is the WWE Champion and not main eventing. It's more about spotlighting himself than bringing any honor to the belt.
And Cena basically popped his little bubble, without burying him or painting him as inferior. He basically told Punk, in a nutshell, "shut up and wrestle".

I don't understand Cena saying he's not egotistical for saying he's the best. Then going back on that and essentialy telling Punk his reign won't matter unless he can beat him at the next PPV.
Also the fact Cena is so willing to give up a title shot just like that makes his win against Mysterio the same show the latter won the belt last year look really bad.

To be honest I was sniffing a hint of "you're just not that good" from Cena to Punk.
