I don't think there would have been a problem if Ryback first started in the midcards. A few months with a dominant US/IC title reign could have been fun. Then again, I seem to be one of few that don't see a superstar spending time in the midcards as some sort of punishment. He was there though, looked like he was about to start chasing Miz for the IC title then Cena got hurt and they kinda hurried him along to the main event.

Am I the only person who hasn't made a "Why I like/dislike Ryback" thread? I made one but I was so angered I just wrote I am a fish 500 times and did a little dance and passed out, so I'm sure it got deleted.

"Forced down our throats" only works when the casual fans aren't cheering. They are. Why have his last 3 PPV appearances been met with silence? Were you there in person for all 3 events?

I seem to remember the entire crowd dead for 2/3 of those events and the other one at TLC was quite loud for everyone in that match.

I actually remember several cheers/chants for Ryback at Hell in a Cell. Wasn't the loudest for anyone I've ever heard, but certainly wasn't all that quiet, either. If they were silent for Ryback, they were silent for Punk as well. Never saw his Survivor Series match, so I have no idea what happened there. TLC was about the same as HiAC. Both of them had cheers, chants, and the idiotic "Goldberg" stuff.
The whole "crowd was totally dead for Ryback" thing gets blown out of proportion.
Personally, I'm pretty neutral when it comes to Ryback. I think he's got a lot of potential, and I hope he can maintain his momentum when his main event program inevitably ends, but I wouldn't consider myself 100% sold yet. I'd just like to see how he does a bit later down the line before really committing to a single opinion. But for the most part now, he's been doing pretty well for a guy who was rushed into a WWE title program just to replace Cena. So much so that even when Cena is back, Ryback is still a huge part of Raw.
For anyone who doesn't think Ryback is working (regardless of whether or not you like him. I honestly do not care), I have a question. Why is he still in a main event level program when Cena already healthy again?

Didn't Ryback also get the loudest crowd reaction at the Slammys? That's a feat in itself, I think.

As far as I am concerned the crowd seems to dig him. He is also appears to be getting over with the children. We all know how important that is to the WWE. If RyBack wore a mask he would be more over than Rey Mysterio right now.. I am kidding, but maybe I am not..

I used to hate Ryback until the build for TLC where had had weapons and shit. Not Rybacks awesome to me. I disagree about Orton and the ruthless aggression guys, of the three he was the least ready and Brock's push was exactly the way it should have been.

IWC: WWE don't make new stars anymore, and they don't push anyone. It's the same guys in the main event over and over again. IWC: OMG Ryback sucks he's not ready he doesn't belong in the main event he's being pushed down our throats. Way to go, guys! Probably the dumbest argument I've ever heard in regards to critiquing new talent. The implied sentiment behind "we want new talent" isn't "and we'll literally take anyone new. ANYONE. Put a koala in tights and give him the world title and we'll be happy. ANYONE NEW! It doesn't matter who, how or why - just someone new!!!!!" People want new, but they also want someone good and/or who they actually like and NO ONE should have to clarify that because only a moron would assume that when someone says "I want new talent in the main event scene" they also mean "and please let them be someone I find no enjoyment in watching." so, basically people complain because the WWE can't read their mind.

I'm enjoying Ryback's current push but i've always had a soft spot for powerhouse wrestlers.

What I mean with Orton back in the day was he was the only one of the three that I thought was ready for the WWE...not "main event" but rather wwe television caliber matches. Yet he wasn't pushed on us like Brock was. Brock had size and a wrestling background but he wasn't "WWE" ready. But because he was a monster I felt he was forced on us...instead of him just rising to stardom via his work. If that makes sense. I know this is a Ryback thread, but I just can't get past this point. If you don't mind, would you expound a bit on just how Orton's early matches were more "WWE caliber" than Brock Lesnar's squashes? Is it just that you're not a fan of seeing roid freaks tearing smaller guys apart? Is it a style thing? You're absolutely entitled to your own opinion, I just really want to know what it was about 2002 Orton specifically that made you say, "Now THAT guy needs to be on TV every week"? I didn't see the appeal of the guy until 2009 and even now it's not consistent. What was I not seeing in 2002 Orton? Sure. I just found Orton to be much more fluid in the ring. His matches seemed realistic and "clean" because he could work matches with all ring styles. Unlike Brock he wasn't just crushing people but rather having entertaining matches. With Brock back in the day just having him crush smaller guys, there was no real character growth. I mean what Brock was then is what he is now. At least Cena and Orton have evolved over the years.

so, basically people complain because the WWE can't read their mind. The mind reading machine WWE owned broke down in 1997. They don't have to read anyone's mind when they have live crowds who openly cheer/boo/don't react to individual characters. They just don't listen all that often anymore, likely because they don't need to. They don't have serious competition so they've got no fear of running away their audience. The post-WCW generation of fans only knows WWE and will eat up pretty much anything they shovel out, while longtime wrestling fans get more and more vocal and are ignored for their efforts.

Yet he wasn't pushed on us like Brock was. Brock had size and a wrestling background but he wasn't "WWE" ready. But because he was a monster I felt he was forced on us...instead of him just rising to stardom via his work. If that makes sense. As for Skip/Ryback I do feel it is relevant. It's not like he was like Glen Jacobs going from being Issac Yankem to Kane where you had a couple years between them and Kane came back wearing a mask...so you could believe it was a different character. But Sheffield coming back from an ankle injury as Ryback where the only difference is a singlet and his name doesn't work. To me I liken it to Triple H evolving through the years. Or better yet Mick Foley, being all four personalities in the WWE at the same time. It was always Mick Foley and that was fine the way it was presented. But again with Skip/Ryback there was no imagination involved in the new character and all I can see is Skip. Same thing with Tensai they tried to come up with a backstory for the new look, but fans still called him Albert. How many years was he gone from WWE? It just didn't work. And Ryback coming back that much sooner is just as bad. And I hated that they used Evans as Human Torch and Captain America. But then it doesn't bother me too much as I wasn't a fan of FF. But I feel actors and their roles are different than sports entertainers characters. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Ryback's in a unique position as a "Goldberg 2.0"-character because he was so exposed during NXT Season 1. Everyone else from Season 1 is still using their original NXT names (Heath, Justin, Wade, Daniel, Darren, etc.) and asking us to forget all the stupid things Skip Sheffield said/did isn't generally gonna fly. If you are a longtime wrestling fan you are asked to ignore things like Skip Sheffield's aborted history, or Kerwin White's brief run (especially when they asked us to buy Chavo as a legit ECW Champ-- which I did eventually). Sometimes you can buy things like Skip (dull-witted brawny guy) changing his persona into Ryback (food-obsessed brawny monster) with minimal fan backlash ("Gooooldberg!") By comparison-- Sometimes you can't buy things like Albert (hairy-chested/back'd ape dude) changing his gimmick into Lord Tensai (CLEAN-SHAVEN and tatted-up slave-owning/beating Japanese ex-expat) because it's such a departure from any sense of reality/good taste and the crowd will absolutely shit all over it ("Allllllbert!") Ryback's fine. Like Cena he'll enjoy a 50/50 split between Rybackers and Take-backers and win unprecedented fan response as a result. Hopefully.
