I thought the clash in styles is what really made tonight's promo work; Punk's doing the whole whiny entitled internet nerd who demands pro wrestling be SERIOUS BIZNESS thing (and really, that's the character they should have been positioning him as months ago, instead of the generic "insults hometowns and Jerry Lawler" stuff that no one gave a damn about), and Rock completely shuts him down by doing his over-the-top cartoon rambling.
Compare that to Rock/Cena, where they were both being the same type of exaggerated super macho homoerotic trash-talkers, which just highlighted how much better Rock was at controlling the crowd, not to mention making the whole thing look like they just wanted to have sex with each other.

It amazes me people are beating down on Rock but giving Punk a pass despite not really saying anything new. Yeah, but Punk gave his promo with a husheddd, slowww, methodicallll deliveryyyy... plus some of it sounded like it might be a shoot, so that earned it 10 trillion smark points.

Rock did his basic schtick with catchphrases, Punk did his tired schtick about being great...but oddly it worked together.

Oh and on a personal level - I didn't like the first half of Punk's promo, especially the part with the forced ad break. It was like "Uhhh yeah sure." I'm willing to bet it was the writers knowing Punk could talk for 20 minutes and pad more time on the show. I liked parts of the promo but the cut to a commercial gimmick didn't really work for me and it did seem overly long.

It was good. I just can't enjoy the Rock. Every time I think he's about to hunker down and get serious with this, it turns out he was just setting up for another punchline. I know both of them were essentially repeating that they were gonna kick each other's asses in different ways, but the way Rock goes about it is just so damn annoying to me. I just prefer the believability in Punk's promos than the over the top catchphrasiness of the Rock. It's just exhausting. Thank you. This is what I was trying to say, and you said it perfectly. Not to say that being over-the-top is bad, but I don't think it works here (at least for me).

Just my thoughts about "cookiepuss" but I honestly think that promos like what we just saw NEEDS stuff like that to stay interesting. You can have as serious a promo as you want but if you don't do anything to get the crowd cheering, you're going to come off as dull as dishwater if you're as big a face as Rock is.

Cookiepus is one of the worst pet insults Rock has ever come up with. I still like The Rock, I just feel like he's pandering to the point where I can't get behind him on a 'fan' level, excluding my fondness for Punk.
Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the build of this. These two are going to be must-see in the coming weeks if tonight was any indication.

The Rock is basically a very successful "I didn't do it" boy. He could get Wizzle Wuzzle trending.

What baffles me the most about Cookiepus is...what kind of endorsement can Punk even get from that? The Cookie Monster's wife?

There were some missteps, especially with Cookie puss, but the way it ended I thought was great and the clash of styles really somehow worked together.

The line about his arms being too short to box with god is a classic rap line. Nice to see Punk's musical ties go into all areas.
The promos were both great. Punk cut a promo proving he still has that shine in him that we haven't seen in a good while and it makes sense considering Rock's there. Rock came back and did what he always does which is entertain. Whether people think that Rock didn't live up to his expectations doesn't really matter much considering it's Rock. We know his promo style, we know what gets the crowd, if it didn't afffect you then hey that's how it is. He's Rock because of this.
This feud is a lot better than Rock/Cena. Leagues better. The chemistry is better, overall they act great towards each other and they truly understand how things are. Cena can learn something from it when he goes back against the Rock in a few months.

'Your arms are too short to box with God" is the best line I've heard in a long ass time. I'm only disappointed that wasn't met with "IT DOESN'T MATTER IF MY ARMS ARE TOO SHORT TO WRESTLE WITH GOD." And its true too,The Rocks offense is mostly boot based,so short arms are no problem.

As far as Punk's promo before the confrontation with Rock, it was really good (his best in a long ass while) but parts of it just seemed to be trying too hard and it was just too long. His delivery was tremendous though.

Yep, if Cena cut Punk's basic last promo, "I don't care how many times you show up, when you do I'm gonna kick your ass" that build would have been 100 times better. Makes him look like someone who wants to prove himself, not someone who is excited because in x weeks, he gets a chance to dry hump the Rock in the ring...

Killing Rock/Cena already. Yes its fresh but I NEVER got that intensity with those two. This is different. And best of all it was all pretty much kayfabe. No insider crap between the two. Rock did his jokes that the crowd loves and expects him to do but he brought some fire. Punk didnt go crazy calling him DWAYNE and recycle Cena's argument. Im crazy hyped.

First, we have Punk promising to drop another pipebomb. Than, he comes out and rambles for 15 minutes about nonsense. Seriously, it seemed like he talked about 5 things during the promo, he didn't seem to have a solid idea of what he wanted to promo to be about.
Than The Rock comes out and he's using his usual nonsensical jokes like Cookie Puss. I mean, seriously, he completely lost me when he told Punk to strip naked. I mean, really?
Seriously, we need Punk to have the same fire he seemed to have in 2011 during the Summer of Punk. Sure, the "boxing with God" line was cool, but that's it. The rest was just nonsense.

I'm already tired to death of every board going nuts over him using a line he didnt actually make up acting as if he originated it, but aside from that it's pretty damn exciting. Unlike a lot, I always enjoy seeing The Rock, and actually feel he came off stronger than Punk, punk replying to the Rock with the "Im gunna kick yer ass" stuff just seemed so transparent and sad, given the size of the rock.
