Oh, here's another one.
The voice of Alfred in Batman: The Animated Series.
Compare Alfred in the first few eps to the Alfred that would continue the role all the way into the Justice League cartoon.

Hilary Shepard Turner over Carol Hoyt as Divatox in Power Rangers Turbo. Both actresses each had their own take on the character, but I like and remember Hilary's slapstick version of Divatox a lot better.
Chad Duell was a better Michael Corinthos on General Hospital than Drew Garrett. I remember when he first stepped in the role, the entire Internet exploded because they thought Chad was only getting "pushed" due to being a "Golden Boy"/"Disney Kid" (he appeared in all of TWO episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place and owned balls on that show). But he busted his ass and earned his spot. He played Michael as a lot more mature, while Drew's incarnation just yelled a lot.

Heh, it's funny you mention that, because Alfred was originally voiced by Clive Revill, who you may remember was the original voice of Palpatine in The Empire Strikes Back, before being replaced by Ian McDiarmid in Return of the Jedi.

Mila Krunes over Lori Allen as Meg Griffen I think you mean Mila Kunis and Lacey Chabert. Hunico taking over as Sin Cara Hunico was a horrible pointer and personally I found Hunico nowhere near as good at the high flying stuff as Sin Cara. Anyway, Dave Grohl in Nirvana...

Scott Brooks has been a vastly better coach for the Thunder than PJ Carlesimo was.

Kane Hodder as Jason is iconic..he made the character as opposed to prior Friday the 13th films where it was the character who made the actor.

Norm McDonald taking over Weekend Update from Kevin Nealon, if that counts.
Would either of Conan's stints as a late night host count?

Marky replacing Tommy in the Ramones.
I love those first three albums, but Tommy was the drummer out of necessity - Marky was just a better drummer, and still kept the band as ungodly tight as they were back then.
Keeping with the Ramones, this one might be a bit controversial - CJ replacing DeeDee in 1988. I've got both "Ramones Raw and the "It's Alive" DVD from a few years back. There's footage of the band, just after Marky came back in, but before Dee Dee left. It just seems evident to me that Dee Dee didn't really want to be there anymore. CJ gave them some energy back.

From a band no one here listens too Obituary replaced their lead guitarist on their second album due to DUI incarcerations. James Murphy on Cause Of Death is way better on lead then Alan West on any of their other albums.

Scott Brooks has been a vastly better coach for the Thunder than PJ Carlesimo was. Carlesimo has, in turn, been better than Avery Johnson for the Nets.

When Paul Schneider's Mark Brendanowicz left "Parks & Rec", he was replaced by Rob Lowe's Chris Traeger and Adam Scott's Ben Wyatt, as well as the roles of Jerry and Donna were expanded. That's a huge trade up.

does anyone even remember John Rutsey was Rush's original drummer?
for that matter, Chuck Schuldiner decided after the 3rd Death album that having a regular lineup of guys who couldn't play what he was writing (AND TRIED TOURING WITHOUT HIM) was pointless so he fired the whole band and replaced them with super-technician guys for every album after that.

Don Cheadle over Terrance Howard in Iron Man Agreed. Not that Terrance Howard was bad, but Don Cheadle really worked as Jim Rhodes. Then again, Cheadle probably got half the screen time that Howard did so I suppose it's a moot point. Also, anyone remember when Randy Orton has "This Fire Burns" for that one week? So glad that Voices replaced that and CM Punk ended up with it.

Orignially, Fox wanted Roseanne and Sam Kineson to pay Al and Peg Bundy.
Needless to say, Ed O'neil and Katey Segal worked better

James Murphy on Cause Of Death is way better on lead then Alan West on any of their other albums. for that matter Ralph Santolla's a better lead guitarist than Alan West too. no idea why they brought him back in the first place because by all accounts dealing with him was one of the reasons they broke up the first time. for that matter, Ralph Santolla (and Jack Owen) are better guitarists for Deicide than the Hoffmann brothers, who by many accounts couldn't play a lot of what Steve Asheim wrote so he had to junk a lot of songs. and while we're talking about Death Metal popular consensus is that George Fisher is a much better vocalist than Chris Barnes, both in Cannibal Corpse and elsewhere.

Pretty much any Rush fan will know the band's history.
