UK posters, HMV announced late last night that they were going in to administration and called in Delloite, the same firm that over saw the closure of Jessops and Woolworths, among others. Lots of talk that the brand is worth something, so might survive, online at least, but it's looking less and less likely. Gift cards are now suspended, you cant buy new ones or use ones you have and they are not excepting exchanges or doing any refunds. They have also suspended all stock trading and taken themselves off the London stock exchange. Say bye bye Nipper.... ![](http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/545254_10151230269016270_666895599_n.jpg)

I worked there as the customer services supervisor for one of the larger stores until last year, it was so poorly run but the staff always tried hard (because I made them).
I feel for my former colleagues.

It's sad news but not hard to understand why when you see how much they charge for new DVDs and Blu-rays. Pisses me off that they won't accept Gift Vouchers any more, they've already got the money from them.

NOOOOO! There's two HMV's down in Limerick that I often go to and I'd hate to see them close. The Xtra Vision in town just doesn't have a good selection of BD's that I want unless it's a big, new release.

I have a gift voucher, was planning on spending it saturday when I woke up, woke up and decided to drink a can of beer and smoke a spliff so diddn't feel like walking in to town, gutted now.
As sad as it staff are losing their jobs and I cant spend my voucher I really don't care about the highstreet anymore, I do everything online I could do in the highstreet (other than buy food and the odd time I need to deposit physical money in to my bank account). These failing shops only have themselves to blame, last time I was in HMV it seemed like everything was RRP (nobody sells music or games or films at rrp anymore apart from these guys)

They were kind of asking for it with their prices, but it is a shame, and I hope that the employees will be able to find something else quickly.

I cant think of another store that offers so many music and dvds and such like HMV does so im sad the stores are closing. Im a huge world cinema fan so it looks like im going to have to do all my dvd/blu ray buying online for them now. Most of all it sucks for all the people who are going to lose their jobs, terrible.

Terrible news York Monks Cross retail park has already lost one store this year already due to going bankrupt this will be the 2nd one in the first few weeks of 2013. This year already looks like it's going to suck.

Pisses me off that they won't accept Gift Vouchers any more, they've already got the money from them. we did the same thing when Blockbuster closed. I thought it was a total load of crap. we couldn't even check them to see what they were worth to give in-store credit. and it's all legal, stores are under no legal obligation to to honor giftcards.

Hopefully this will not affect the Canadian HMV stores.
