Its been enough time to look back at how Bane was portrayed in The Dark Knight Rises and give a proper opinion. I watched TDKR for the 1st time since i saw it in theaters the other day and there are a few things wrong IMO with how he was handled but all in all i think he was the best thing about TDKR. Without this one of a kind villain i don't think TDKR would be as good to watch. The voice is stupid...i admit it...but its entertaining. Its funny to do impressions so for that i can deal with it. The problem i have is the re-dubbed voice...the original voice people complained was hard to hear so why didn't they just turn it up louder...same lines, tone etc?? Instead they stopped him 'saying' his lines with a hint of menace and replaced them with really loud yelled lines like hes speaking in a Shakespearean play! Listen to the original voice...it sounds way better. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yltx0692aKoBanes look was near perfect...menacing,muscular..the mask worked well and Tom Hardy did a great job portraying emotions using just his eyes! The only thing was i wished he'd have been taller...in some scenes it looks as though he towers over people...in others he looks the same height! Obviously the worst thing was how he was built up through the movie as the main villain ...only to become a sidekick somewhat in the last 20mins. It really should have been Bane Batman and everybody was chasing in the finale! So looking back now with a clearer view...what were your thoughts on Bane in TDKR...his look and portrayal of the character?

He is still my favorite part of this movie, by far. I love the portrayal of him ... until the final scenes, like you said. Way too late in the movie to make him a sidekick only worth being killed by Catwoman. Other than that though I dig it.

He had kind of a cheap defeat, but him and his voice were the best thing about the movie for me.
Well, him and Deshi Deshi Basara Basara.

Great villian until it turned out he was just the sidekick. I kind of hate the obsession these days in storylines with swerving us by pulling out the TRUE big bad at the end. It happens too much, just let the villian from the start be the villian.

Honestly, having you-know-who didn't add anything to it. It should have just been Bane, but yeah, Tom Hardy did a real good job.

I remember watching the movie and after a few minutes thinking "This is the voice they're going with?" Other than that, it wasn't bad. He just sounded really funny a lot of the time.

He was OK. He had a great look and for the first 2/3 of the movie I really bought that he was a tactical genius. However, I had to force myself not to laugh at the voice, and at the end he was a bit of an idiot.

I loved him in this film. Bitch death, sure, but aside from that he was menacing and a badass.

Does anyone else agree that his voice/line delivery from the original prologue sounded alot better? His voice just sounded way more intense and menacing....

Yeah I liked his original voice better. All they had to do was pump up the volume on it instead of have him do his best Sean Connery impression.

I loved it. Been going back and forth between him and Joker as my favorite villy from this series. With him barely edging out Jokey.

Way too short and the mask interpretation was awful. Otherwise he was good, though venom would have been nice as opposed to just being buff.

Anyway, Bane is BY FAR the best part of the movie. His mannerisms, his voice, his dialogue are all perfect. "Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING!" Amazing.

His accent is hilarious. He spends most of the movie speaking with this completely over the top, upper class British accent, but then during the first fight with Batman, he switches to full on Latin mode out of nowhere, only to go right back to being British in the very next scene. What the hell was that?

He sounds the same in the fight to me, other than "Deh light".
Loved the voice.

Would've been pretty good, but just sadly got torpedoed fatally by his Mr. Kipling voice and ultimately being revealed as a second banana rather than mastermind.
