I actually really liked the voice. Though I heard bit's of Ra's Al Ghul not Sean Connery, but perhaps that is just me.

More silly than menacing.

Honestly, I don't see why they couldn't have had that reveal still, but just make it that she was working for him. It would've maintained the status quo established without really effecting anything, outside of keeping Bane looking like the real big bad.

It wasn't like Bane was a lowly henchman,. There's no evidence that those weren't his men that were doing the dirty work. The League was destroyed.

It was great, though ideally he would've been bigger (there's only so much you can do on film though) and the mask could have looked better with a different design IMO.

I loved it. I also adore that they didn't use Venom at all in the movie. Bane's true threat in the comics was always that he was Batman's intellectual equal and the character actually stopped using Venom years ago because he considered it a weakness.
I loved the voice, too. Sophisticated, yet menacing.

When I first heard Bane was the main villain I was skeptical because I viewed Bane as a side-villain. Then I saw the movie. Great job.

Superb all round. Every aspect of it was brilliantly done, even the much-maligned voice.

i think it worked because it was SO different, and not your usual growly type voice, it made him sophisticated sounding yet utterly terrifying

Fantastically written, horrible voice. Agreed. The voice absolutely killed it for me. They somehow made a character have a goofier voice than Bale's Batman. I'll catch a lot of flack for this, but I honestly think it's the worst villain out of all of the Batman films. That's how silly that voice is.

When I heard Bane was going to be the main villain for Nolan's final installment of the Dark Knight series I was devastated. I feel like Nolan is the first person to do Batman justice when it comes to bringing him out of comics and onto either television or into the cinema. Everything before that was just an embarrassment to Batman. And I don't like Bane as a villain, the way he is usually used as a brainless, big guy who is basically just strong is just boring. Had he been used as a secondary villain I would have been okay with that but when I heard he was the main villain my reaction was pretty much "Really?! This is how your going to waste the main villain spot in your final Batman movie."
The thing is, it didn't go down like that at all. Bane was articulate, clever and more than just a monster. The way Tom Hardy portrayed him was spectacularly well done. Say what you like about the voice (I didn't have a single problem hearing it) but the overall use of Bane in the film was nothing short of fantastic. Loved it!

The thing though is in the comics Bane is more than just a brainless strong man.
He is intelligent. He discovers Batman's identity by just studying him.

What you just described in your last paragraph is who Bane is. That's the Bane that was created by Chuck Dixon for the Knightfall storyline. It's sad that common perception of the character has since become what you described as your concerns, with most of the blame falling on his horrible depictions in Batman & Robin, Batman: The Animated Series, and the Arkham video games. My point is, Christopher Nolan doesn't deserve credit for making Bane a good character. Bane already was a good character, but only comic fans knew it.

It might be to do with the time period I grew up but the first Batman related thing I saw was Batman Forever which was terrible and then it was followed up by the somehow worse Batman & Robin. It skewed my view of Batman for years to the point where I didn't watch Batman Begins until just before the Dark Knight was released and that was simply because my friend wanted me to come to the cinema to see TDK with him and I didn't want to go in not knowing what the hell was going on. Glad he pressured me into it.

I think he deserves credit from the standpoint that he's the first person (that I've personally seen) sho has been able to transition the Bane from the comic books to the movie screen without changing him into just a brainless thug.
