I made a claim in the Wrestlemania Not making new stars thread, and it was more of an optimistic hope. But I said Rock being champion is great because old fans will suddenly tune in to wrestling for the first time in a long time.
When I woke up this morning several of my old buds from highschool were talking about how they are going to check out wrestling again now that Rock is champ.
And I hope people everywhere are feeling like that because I do believe this could provide the boost WWE needs to actually start making new stars.
Thoughts?

I mean, yeah, I guess his old fans who haven't watched in a while will tune in to see his shtick until he leaves again.
But I would also theorize that, when he leaves, they will stop watching as well. They're not going to be happy with him losing to Cena at WM. I certainly don't think Rock has what it takes to create another boom period or anything close to it.
It's the same as last year except Rock has the title and will lose it to Cena. I think it'll make less than last year's WM, but I could very well be wrong.

Therein lies the problem: How many of them are gonna stay when he's no longer champion?

It depends how they handle it. They could easily have The Rock open Raw and spin his shtick, celebrate and leave which, I'm guessing, would lead to a lot of people getting what they came for and turning off Raw.
OR They could promote The Rock's apperance for half-way through the show and have a very hot opening to Raw promoting the best of todays talent and storylines and then hopefully maintain a lot of the audience through to the end.
Rock will bring in a lot of viewers no doubt about it, it's just if they stick around. I hope they do. More eyes on the product increases creativity.

Yeah, but it's only a short term solution. Once The Rock leaves again after Wrestlemania I doubt most of those fans will stick around since the show has changed so much since back when The Rock was a regular member of the roster. Maybe WWE can keep some of those fans but they need a really good product over the next few months to do it. I don't know if it will work, though, as many of those fans only liked the Attitude Era for the violence and raunchiness and will never like the current product because of how different it is.
We'll see. Maybe WWE can get some of those fans back but they'll have to bring their A game to do it.

Bingo, once again Vince made the right call here people. I mean, let's be honest here, 3/4 of those are likely to bomb.

The ratings bumps they get from nostalgia acts don't last for more than a week or two. All those "lapsed fans" that tuned in around Mania time last year were gone by mid-April. The same will happen this year.
And there's no guarantee he's going to be promoting WWE and Mania during his movie appearances. It's obvious he's still a little ashamed of his wrestling job when he's around Hollywood people.
And since we don't know the financial terms of his deal, there's no way to know if he's actually good for business. If a bunch of those who bought WM last year decide they don't need to see the same match again this year and they don't hit a million buys, WWE likely loses $ on the Rock deal. He's making a lot of money.

Therein lies the problem: How many of them are gonna stay when he's no longer champion? You never know. I got back into wrestling in 1998 to see how Undertaker and Shawn Michaels were doing, I ended up stickng around because of Stone Cold.

If people tune in for the Rock, there is nothing to say they wont get sucked in.
Cena is a draw, even if established fans dislike him, to a new viewer, his stuff will be all new to them. Punk isn't much of a money draw, but the guy oozes charisma and has the ability to gain fans if they are watching the show. WWE has some great younger talent in people like Ziggler at the moment as well, plus a potential mini run in another old star name in Jericho.
And that isnt to mention the fun and games with Hell No and the likelihood of Brock and Undertaker showing up sometimes soon.
If the Rock can be a catalyst to bring some people back to watch again, and even 1 in 10 of them stick around afterwards, then WWE is likely to make some gains.

Joe and Fast 6 are locks to make a ton of cash just because of the name/franchise. Snitch looks like the only one that probably won't do well. I think Pain and Gain will do fine to, mainly since Michael Bay films always do well despite never being any good

Bingo, once again Vince made the right call here people. Especially if Rock carries the title belt with him at premieres and while speaking with the press.

Which is why he took the time to promote WrestleMania 28 last year, right? And since we don't know the financial terms of his deal, there's no way to know if he's actually good for business. If he weren't good for business, they probably wouldn't be bringing him back for more. I get where this thinking comes from, but all logic would tell you that if someone costs more than what's he's actually giving you, they'd not use him as much as they do. WWE has been using Rock since 2011, so whether or not he's good for business would be well known to them by now. And not only is he still here, but he's now the champion.

He's good for a short-term boost.
But honestly, he pulls in Attitude Era fans who will watch Attitude Era stars, but IMO will tune out once he's gone as the WWE landscape is VASTLY different than when the Rock was a regular wrestler.
If 2013 WWE were closer to what 2001 WWE were like, then yeah - it might work, but I don't really see it helping anything.
Case in point - after last year's WM ended and the Rock left for a while, did the viewer-ship really change much at all? In fact, the viewership barely seems to have changed these last couple of appearances.

Shane Helms said it best with this tweet.
"So there are people who think having the most successful pro wrestler of all time as WWE Champ is a bad thing, those people are clueless."
Not only does he add buys to PPV, he spikes attendance in those arena's for his appearances and sells tons of merch. Like was said before, if he wasn't good for business Vince wouldn't give him they type of deal he has.
