It's not our fault you made him look like a member of the Cullens Fact is, you don't do something drastic to a franchise without expecting backlash, so don't buck the blame squarely on the fans. Not seeing the Cullens in the slightest. Just looks like Murdoc from the Gorillaz if he was less ugly.

Heh, it sounds like when the game journos all attacked the 'entitled' ME3 fans who thought the endings sucked.
The game itself is pretty good, better than 4 I'd say (not that that is particularly hard), but they managed to make all the characters less likable than before and the new girl has no personality whatsoever.
Not got a PS3 so I only really played Enslaved - and that was damn good. What surprises me is that there was not this backlash over the last Castlevania game - oh yeah, 'cos it was excellent that's why.

So, pretty much what Angry Joe was saying in his review, then?
I haven't played the game yet, but I really want to, and I do plan on eventually getting to it. I just don't have the time or money, right now.

Give the demo a shot if you haven't yet. After playing both it and the full game at a friend's house, I'd say it's pretty representative of the experience of the full game. If you like the demo, you'll probably like the game. If you don't, the full game won't change your mind.
Also, what Hurbster said. You'd think game journo types would've learned their lesson from not poking the wasps' nest after the spectacularly awful way they white knighted ME3's original ending.

Yeah I have only played the demo at this point (and am a big fan of 1, 3, and 4), and I was perfectly fine with the game. I liked it. I'll probably buy it at some point (got other games in my backlog to get through first though). I guess I just don't get the hate for the viewership outside of the circumstances surrounding the game (passing it off to a western developer, Dante's character makeover, etc.). Plus you can't even count on the "user reviews average" getting posted up because you know some tool out there is making multiple accounts just to give this game multiple low ratings. People put too much stock into a score IMO but that's another topic.
On this topic, it's a shame it'll probably do badly, because again I like the game. That being said, this reporter going to bat to antagonize the fanbase is patently unprofessional, so this article should be dismissed with the wankingest of motions.

I think what really ticked the fans off more than new Dante's appearance was the way Capcom/Ninja Theory responded to the criticism, which reeked of "We don't give a s***". Then they do this: It's kind of a slap in the face. And then they end up releasing "Classic Dante" as one of the 4 skins in the costume pack DLC that just dropped last week. I still say the game would have been better received if had nothing to do with Devil May Cry. I don't want to single you out on this but that underlined part is what I'm seeing a lot. I get if you don't like the game and all, but lines like that make me think that gamers as a whole have some serious entitlement issues. When I saw that, I chuckled, because I took it as a tongue-in-cheek joke, and not some sort of affront to my series fandom. I don't know, it's just kind of frustrating to see people react that way really.

Wow, that writer is a douche. For what it's worth I heard DmC was a good game especially if you're playing on PC. However, Sessler's review made me rethink that.

Yeah people getting upset over a JOKE is not making them look good. I chuckled and moved on. I thought this was young Dante anyway.

You both raise a good point, BUT it's also difficult to take a tongue-in-cheek joke when both Capcom and Ninja Theory have been genuinely mean-spirited towards fans of the series during development. Under normal conditions, I don't think anyone would be offended but in that context, it's rubbing salt in the wound.

But keep this in mind: The developers spent a long time going on about how fans were worrying over dumb things and how this game would feature a mature plot and be extremely well written. It's...not, to say the least. Plus, the game took a lot of stuff Devil May Cry fans enjoyed about the series and threw it out of the window. The developers were fully aware of that. Then, with that context, players saw the joke and went "Oh f*** you." It's not really entitlement. That word gets thrown around a lot about games and it rarely makes sense. People are fans of a series because of certain aspects. When you change those aspects to something that doesn't appeal to them, they stop being fans of it. That's not being entitled, that's enjoying a game for what it is as opposed to being loyal to a brand.

"Entitlement" is getting to be one of those words like "epic" that has completely lost all meaning. Personally, I think if the company is expecting you to pay for the game then fans have a right to be annoyed when the company pretty much refuses to do what they want with it.

Yeah, this isn't really an entitlement issue. If you want to see truly entitled gamers, look at World of Warcraft players who think their playing the game since Vanilla makes them superior to newer players and that their opinions matter more/should be given special things by Blizzard.

If Capcom/Ninja Theory weren't such dicks about the whole thing, then that wouldn't have been a problem, albeit, still teasing. But they were clearly pro-trolling, and then it became just that; rubbing salt in the wound. For the record, I'm really not one of those people who went apes*** over the appearance. Yes, I'm a big fan of the series (where do you think Redgrave came from?), and the new Dante looks lame, I don't care how young he's supposed to be. It's not a comparison thing, the design itself is bland. But, I still think the game itself is pretty decent. It's not a broken piece of s***. It's an average game with awesome visual effects. It just, IMO, does not deserve the Devil May Cry name.

Personally...I didn't care if they changed his look or not. To me it was just a bad game. The controls were unresponsive a lot of the time for me and the levels more the same old thing it seemed like (Dante jumping and gliding from platform to platform) it got old real fast with me.
That and every few seconds there was a cut scene. That also annoyed me real quick. Probably what annoyed me more than anything was those stupid grapples and shifting them in mid air etc. That goes back to the control problem for me...it just didn't work a lot of the time and Dante went falling to his doom quite a bit on me.
To me it wasn't good game. The first bad game of 2013 in my opinion.

Bleh, I fell into the thing that annoys me about that kind of statement - the wording of it. Like I don't have an issue with people not enjoying the joke or whatever, it's that it's phrased as "a slap in the face." When people word it like that, it's just not good in my eyes - it feels like an overreaction. My view on it was one that was taken with full knowledge of Capcom being professional trolls at this point, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was an intentional middle finger to people opposed to the change in the series. To me that spot was something to quickly chuckle/roll your eyes/groan at, then move on. All in all, it's a fair statement to say that because of the superficial changes, people may not be giving the game a fair shake (probably not anyone on here but you know there's some uber-fanboys out there that aren't even bothering to play the demo before giving this game a thumbs down), and that's what I find to be a shame. Regardless, I'm sure the series can bounce back from this no problem - I mean people thought it was all over after DMC2, and we got the excellent DMC3 right after that...
So let's change "entitlement" to "oversensitivity" maybe? Maybe I don't have an accurate way of describing it in one word/term, but the prevailing trend seems to be that people just...pile on seemingly minor things as if they're some kind of atrocity. There's that joke, there's the ME3 ending (don't really want to open that gate to hell but yeah I will agree it wasn't a good ending. I still think it's a great game and that's where my opinion differs from a lot of people seemingly), and I'm sure there's tons of other examples I can come up with. It's the hyperbole of it all that sets me off.
Of course, I might be oversensitive to the matter myself since I work at a place where whenever the slightest change happens to a product we get hordes of people flipping the f*** out as a result. I work at a place that is essentially the Youtube comment section come to life. So when I see it outside of work I start getting Vietnam flashbacks. :-p
