@beast Army Ass: I do agree with you that the ultra-polarization of internet opinion gets really ridiculous.
I actually thought the DMC joke was pretty funny as I have a weird sense of humor like that (same with the ME3 "fourth ending" that trolled everyone that wanted to kill Starbrat). But I can also see how it'd be rubbing salt in the wound with the context of Capcom and Ninja Theory being really spiteful to a lot of the DMC series fans between the initial reveal and the game's release.
I actually thought this was a massively underrated game and I'm pretty sad that it didn't get a warmer reception. It DEFINITELY had some major issues, especially the haphazard placement of checkpoints. But otherwise I thought it did a decent job of modernizing Bionic Commando while keeping the spirit of the original game design intact. Though I also bought it for $5 at a clearance sale at FYE.

Where do people keep getting the idea the game needed to be reboted? Their were still tons of places the series could ahve gone and DMC4 sold pretty damn well. And entitled is quickly becoming my least favorite word.

What surprises me is that there was not this backlash over the last Castlevania game - oh yeah, 'cos it was excellent that's why. I'm of to minds on this... on one hand playing the game I thought it was great... but the ending completely pissed me off as it rendered pretty much the entire game pointless.

Reboot a beloved franchise and drastically alter the very popular main character. Fans become very vocal with their displeasure a good two years before the game is set to release. The game releases, and those fans didn't buy your game because of reasons they'd been telling you for TWO YEARS.
Basically, why should Capcom or anyone be surprised/upset by this? The fans made it clear as day that they did not want this game to even exist. Were they operating under the mentality that all the "whiny fans" would just buy it anyway?

DMC4 was IIRC the best selling game in the franchise. I really don't see how a reboot was necessary either since there have been series that have gone MUCH longer, especially in Capcom's library, and it's not like continuity's a huge deal in this series anyway. I'm guessing it had more to do with Kamiya and a lot of the DMC folks leaving the company for Platinum, with a bunch of the DMC4 folk working on Sengoku Basara X and Dragon's Dogma. While I did have some problems with Bayonetta, the gameplay was far more DMC than Ninja Theory's pretender.

X was Arc Systems' well-intentioned but misfired fighter (most of the SB characters' specials just weren't meant to work in 2D, IMO). What was left of DMC4's staff did Sengoku BASARA 3 and Sengoku BASARA Utage (3's expansion pack, which they didn't bother translating).

Kamiya hasn't worked on a DMC game since 1, and Itsuno is still with Capcom, he worked on Dogma.

Dont get the outrage over the character. Dante looks like a whiny douche in DMC? Forget teen Dante in 3? Game itself isnt bad at all, either.

Anyone think the new Dante looks like Cody Rhodes? IMO, I think the new Dante look like Merlin from the tv show.

Eh, I'm probably gonna wait until they release Ultimate Devil May Cry Arcade Edition before I get it anyway. After the recent bullshit with Dragon's Dogma, I'm not so tempted to by a Capcom game at release.

They are releasing the expansion on disc with no option for people who already own Dragon's Dogma to get a discount, essentially buying the game again......in getting it.

it's like Capcom saw how EA and Bioware initially hanndled the fallout of ME3's ending and said "yeah I bet we can piss off our fans even more".
