So I decided to go back and watch 22, 23 and 25 today because I've only watched them once and don't have much memory of them. Wrestlemania 22 feels like a house show. I think this might be my least favorite Wrestlemania.

I liked 22, pretty intimate. It had Edge/Foley, HBK/Vince and Trish/Mickie.

I think that like, the stuff that's good, isn't really that good. I dunno I'm not into the like random spotfests (MITB) and I think Edge/Foley is a lot of bullshit until the one big spot and HBK/Vince I haven't gotten too yet (the lameness of Boogeyman stuff inspired this thread) but I wasn't a fan of the first time I saw it. I remembered Foley/Edge and MITB as being a lot more impressive than they came across today.

.....it seems so weird, because I grew up with them, but the old Wrestlemanias held in the regular arenas without the giant oversized entrances seem like house shows to me.
Which sucks, because I hate most gaudy oversized entrances.

Which sucks, because I hate most gaudy oversized entrances. The old Wrestlemanias all seem, well, BIG TIME (lol) to me because they had big stars in big matches. Everything on this show plays flat for me for one reason or another.

I got a co-worker to go to this show; I told him how I thought WM 13 was awesome to experience in person and it's better live than on PPV. I was planning on going, so he found a ticket for himself. I was hoping to go myself, but with a wife, two very young kids and no real disposable income stifled my hope and plan on getting there.
(He said he enjoyed himself and had a great time. And he sat underneath the banner of Ashley Massaro, whom he really really crushed on, so I don't exactly want to know to what degree he enjoyed.)
It does stand out as rather blah, I don't know why Chicago WM events are mic'd like crap when it comes to how it sounds on PPV. But it was a good show, Top Ten for sure.

I almost feel the opposite. There is WAY too much going on for this to feel like a house show. It is such a messy Wrestlemania. Between Money in the Bank, Edge/Foley, the Boogeyman, the Casket Match, HBK/Vince, the Playboy Pillowfight and all of the wacky props everyone uses for the ME entrances, it just feels like so much crap and props are everywhere. Add that to a tiny ass building that was decorated to the gills, this Wrestlemania always appears in my minds eye like a messy bedroom or something. When the bell for the main event rings and Cena and Triple H actually have to wrestle a traditional singles match for the WWF title, they seem so out of place.

Seems like I can consider myself to have an unpopular opinion, lol. Or a wrong one.
And I meant house show more in like... the importance of what was going on? It feels like the big MSG show before the actual Wrestlemania, where HBK will have a real match against an actual wrestler, Undertaker will fight someone who's not a joke, the WHC match will be a singles match, etc.
Maybe it'd be better to say half or 3/4 of it feels like a house show, because MITB, Edge/Foley and Cena/HHH are all ostensibly important or climactic even if I'm not into them.

This is the reason Vince said there will never be another arena Mania. Way WAY to small time feel.

Not a particularly good Wrestlemania... the Edge/Foley match I used to think was motn, but over the years it really hasn't stood up well. The only reason i would watch this is for the crowd in the main event... I remember that Mickie/Trish match just falling totally apart, as well. Taker/Henry was nothing, HBK/Vince was a match that I never liked, Booker/Boogeyman was horrendous, MITB was okay but one of the weaker early ones.

Watching it I recall what I was feeling going through these PPVs at the time. "Boy do I miss Chris Jericho and Christian. I wonder when Randy Orton gets good. Kurt Angle sure is being underutilized. Edge is pretty great wish they'd let him do something more important. Don't care about Cena, or HHH for that matter." You don't see things like THIS at no house show!!!! I meant it felt like a house show more in that so much of it was pointless or meaningless and felt like a random jumble of things, not telling much of a story, as the best PPVs or TVs do.

22 just sticks out as odd event to me. Taker in his weakest match of a now 7 year run (21-28), HBK in a garbage brawl when all of his other WM matches were pretty technical (19-26), two women's matches with one really sucking, a short WHC match, and the Boogeyman getting a singles match at the biggest show of the year. I know Eddie's death and Batista's injury forced them to change plans, but the whole card reeks of something that they put together haphazardly.

I'm usually a fan of tag team matches opening shows but holy s*** do Masters/Carlito breed indifference. Speaking of indifference hey the next match has Shelton and Lashley in it. Matt Hardy is great usually but he came across bland as well. I'm a Chavo fan but he's an afterthought in something like this. Ric Flair just seemed way too old to be doing something like that. RVD was cool but one man can't make up for 5 guys being misplaced. Maybe I'm just the wrong person for this because I find so much of what was going on in 2006 to be depressingly mediocre. Kinda like how Angle can't do such for 2 in the WHC match. Should've been Angle vs Rey, and maybe Orton could've given Shawn an actual match.

The odd thing is, I liked a lot of stuff from 2006 before and after this event. Booker as heel with Sharmell (later becoming King), Edge's feud with Cena, Mysterio's singles bouts (not the nature of his push mind you), Umaga being a beast, Mr. Kennedy before he got tiresome, Matt and Jeff Hardy's singles stuff, heel Big Show on ECW, and so on. There are at least four PPVs I enjoyed either more than or equal to Mania (No Way Out, One Night Stand II, Unforgiven, Judgement Day). It was just a very odd misfire in my eyes.

That's true, a lot of that stuff is great. I think that's what's more frustrating is that there is a lot of potential in terms of talent if used properly. But then you could say the same for something like Wrestlemania 2 ("Let have Savage feud with Animal Steele for a year")
