Sam Winchester. Dean returns from Hell completely traumatized from years of demonic torture, and Sam whines about how Dean doesn't immediately trust Sam's demonic bestie. Dean goes missing and a demon heavily hints that he's in Purgatory, Sam doesn't give a crap and trots off without trying to find him, then has the gall to be mad about it when Dean isn't immediately over it. I've never watched a main character who was so heavily praised for his sensitivity and intelligence act like such an absolute douchebag. I liked the character early on, but I've stopped watching the show because he makes me rage whenever I turn it on. Also add on the fact when he was soulless he was even douchier than usual. This season has made me hate Sam so much, he got to experience things Dean never had a chance to and than spends most of the time whining.

Gibbs from NCIS - If any boss treated his employees the same way he does on the show, he'd be fired faster then he could even begin to raise his slapping hand.

I've noticed a couple of people have mentioned Wikus in District 9 which is sort of a moot point because he is supposed to be unlikeable for a good chunk of the film.
- Pretty much entire main cast in both sex and city films. My missus is a big fan of show and she wanted to them to be publicly flogged after watching the second film. - Catherine Willows: but I would say she was the victim of character derailment as she went from a hardworking single mother wanting to provide for her daughter to a annoying self righteous bitch. - Sam Winchester: Like others said he is a colossal dick when he is supposed to be the levelheaded sensitive one.

Everyone in Prometheus. I'm glad they're dead. Well, that's one film I won't be watching now. They probably did you a favor then. I've read pamphlets that engaged me more.

Brian from Family Guy. I would tell you why but I believe Quagmire explains it the best.

How has nobody mentioned Ferris Beuller yet? Ferris was trying to do right in his own way. He was trying to save Cameron. He just acted like a prick to do it. So I don't find him unlikable, I find him misguided. This is who I came here to post. Just no, no no. As great as Robert Downey Jr. is as Iron Man, Tony Stark is kind of a materialistic, shallow prick. I think it's just built into the movie version of the character. He is likable in the sense that he's charming and has loads of charisma and a good sense of humor, but he's also a self-involved douche bag who I was rooting against in Iron Man 2. The entire movie was Tony trying to get everyone to hate him so when he died Rhodes could take over and be the hero while Tony himself was not mourned. When my dad was dying he tried to get my mom and I to hate him, pretty sure he thought it'd be easier on us that way. A few more: Shia's character in Transformers. So damned annoying. Peter Petrelli in Heroes kind of bounced back and forth. All of the humans in the Lost World not named Ian(who was made to be unlikable but was the only one who wasn't, other than maybe Eddie). All of JP3 except Grant.

This season has made me hate Sam so much, he got to experience things Dean never had a chance to and than spends most of the time whining. Sam after Season 1 slowly transformed into a megaton dick. Even in Season 1 he had some moments but overall they were understandable, given what he was going through. But after that? Oh boy. What I find the most hilarious thing is that Dean has unintentionally become the far more deep, complicated, layered and honestly sensitive character of the two brothers. Moments like when he refused to kill his dad to kill Azazel, stood up to Lucifer and has stood up to Cas to try to talk him down a few times now have shown this. How in spite of his brother being a gigantic douche to him and being downright evil at times, even without Lucifer taking him for a ride, he still tries to care for him & do best by him show the difference between the two. Dean shows the slightest "sign" of slipping by having someone like Benny be his pal? Sam practically shuns him and treats him like a pariah. Sam starts drinking demon blood and clearly going darkside? Dean still tries to help him. End Supernatural Rant. Another bag of unlikeable characters has to be, like, half of the Once Upon a Time cast. Regina, Henry and so many more of them I tend to want to see die or want to throttle them while watching the show for how dumb they are.

Brian from Family Guy. I would tell you why but I believe Quagmire explains it the best. This would have been much more effective coming from anyone but Quagmire, who is a rapist. I won't even say implied, he is basically explicitly sometimes a rapist, with his "usual" at a bar being a pina colada with a roofie in it. Then again, virtually everyone on the show has evolved into a complete monster.

Sam Winchester is such an annoying crybaby douche that I've wished for years that they'd kill him off and let the show center around Dean and Cas.

A show centered around Dean, Cas and Benny would be a dream come true and such a refreshing change of pace. Literally for the last several seasons whenever there's a "Sam lite" episode, I've welcomed it and it's made me realize how much of an anchor he is to the chemistry of the other characters. Also, if there was no Sam, there would've been no god damn Amelia.

Alan Garner in the second hangover film. In the first film He was a socially inept dumbarse but deep down was still a likeable person however in the sequel he does a total 180 into a socially inept jerkass. I mean its stupid how the film tries to make Stu look like he is in the wrong for not wanting inviting him to his wedding despite the events from the first film. Not to mention Stu had every right to be royally pissed off at Alan because his actions led to him getting butt f***ed by a transsexual hooker, and not to mention Alan drugged Stu's future brother in law out jealously and spite even though Teddy was nothing more than a friendly 17 year old boy. Hell that goes far beyond being socially indept and just goes straight into downright clingy and creepy territory.

I'll echo District 9 and Prometheus. God, you'd THINK that writing your characters would be your first priority, especially with how much money went into making them. It's pretty sad that movies 70 years old that had limited production, plagued with problems and so forth were able to put forth better written characters that keep you engaged in what's going on, as opposed to a lot of movies now where the stuff on the screen is of little importance because you have no investment in what happens to those involved. As mentioned earlier, Debra from "Everybody Loves Raymond" The Barones basically had an abusive marriage. Debra constantly verbally abused Ray and hit him quite often too. Plus I'm convinced that Ray had some sort of mental disability (there are times on show where his actions go way beyond just "the oafish husband" to the point where he seems to not know the difference between right and wrong) which makes her treatment of him even worse. He had a mother who made all his decisions for him and married a woman who is an independent spirit of sorts, yet has the same controlling aspects of his mother. Poor Ray is f***ed no matter what. Hell, I can't even begin to tell you how many parallels I saw in that show that looked like my own family. It was quite the surreal experience, which is why I loved the show. Almost any incarnation of Sherlock Holmes. George C. Scott's "version" in There Might Be Giants is great. Check it out.

Kevin Arnold. He can sometimes be an ass to his own friends like Paul and Winnie. Not to mention I felt bad for Doug in that one episode. Sure, Doug can be somewhat annoying, but he at least has a good heart and he didn't deserve the treatment he got from Kevin.

I don't think Wikus in District 9 is that bad when you consider that he is supposed to be a clear representation of the racist and apathetic white South African during apartheid.

Totally disagree about Sam Winchester, he obviously has faults, but that's just adds to the character depth. He comes through when it counts.

As far as District 9 goes, I understand the idea of making your main character unlikeable at the start, but when the bad stuff starts happening to them, we should be able to see them redeemed and be likable by the end. For him, when the story gets going, I only liked him less and less.

Not to disrespect those who are no longer with us, but I hated Rachel (Whitney Houston's character) in "Bodyguard". I just didn't like her. Her character turned me off from the movie altogether.
BTW, Laura Winslow I guess was a protagonist in "Family Matters" where Urkel dominated. I hated the way she treated Urkel, a guy who has done nothing but love, respect, and cherish her.
