BJ WHITMER INJURED

BJ Whitmer was taken to the hospital in Toronto, Canada after taking a scary bump on the apron of the ring. The hope within ROH is that he only suffered a stinger, but we don't have clarification yet on how bad the injury is. Once we hear an update, we will have more on Whitmer.

To follow up on what Mike wrote, during a match with Mike Bennett at tonight ROH show in Toronto, BJ Whitmer was taken to a local hospital after taking a Mike Bennett piledriver. The company felt that he suffered a stinger and he was taken to the the hospital to be examined further.

The match was cut short after the move and Davey Richards and EMTs came out to attend to Whitmer.

UPDATE ON BJ WHITMER'S INJURY AND CONDITION

I just spoke with BJ Whitmer, who is still hospitalized in Toronto, as he wanted an accurate update on his condition out there.

When Whitmer took the piledriver on the apron outside the ring at last night's ROH show, he lost feeling in his right leg and arm as that side of his body went completely numb.

After several minutes, as he was being checked out by EMTs and Davey Richards (who is an EMT), Whitmer began to get feeling back in the right side of his body. He gave the crowd a thumbs up side with his right hand as he was carried out.

Whitmer underwent a series of tests and X-Rays came back showing that he did not have any fractures. The current belief is that he ruptured a disc in his back. He will be undergoing additional testing today and ROH will re-book his flight back to Ohio once he is released from the hospital.

Whitmer has full feeling and movement in his back and was actually out of the hospital bed this morning under his own power. He noted the entire thing was very scary and he's still got pain but there's no paralysis or severe injury.

Whitmer wanted to also note he was extremely thankful for the outpouring of concern from fans online and from everyone who's reached out to him overnight.

Glad to hear @bj_Whitmer will be OK. @ringofhonor posted update: he'll stay in hospital for tests, will be released later today or Monday.

I was at the show last night.

A vast majority of the crowd thought it was a work at first due to the fact that those immediately tending to BJ weren't medics. It was only after EMTs arrived that people clued in that something serious was going on. Mike Bennett looked devastated throughout everything. The whole situation lasted for about 15-20 minutes.

To be completely honest, my vantage point was obscured, so I couldn't really tell you who was at fault, but a spot like that is incredibly dangerous to begin with and what really bothered me was that later on in the night, Spanky hit a Sliced Bread #2 on Kevin Steen on the apron. I understand that it's a different spot with a lower level of risk involved, but after what happened earlier in the evening, perhaps, it wasn't the best of ideas.

I've got to be honest, spots on the apron tend to make me cringe more than anything. It's such a small area that it doesn't seem that it would take much of a mishap to seriously injure someone on it.

BJ WHITMER UPDATE

BJ Whitmer was released from a Toronto hospital and is currently en route back to his home in Dayton, Ohio. He was feeling better today, but is still in pain and wearing a back brace.

Whitmer will be having follow-up medical appointments later this week.

- Thank you to everyone who attended “All Star Extravaganza V” in Toronto last Saturday! Ring of Honor debuted at the Mattamy Athletic Centre and rocked the house! We hope to return to Toronto very soon.

- A very scary scene with our own BJ Whitmer happened last Saturday. Whitmer suffered a serious injury due to an apron pile driver by Michael Bennett. Whitmer, who had lost feeling in the right side of his body, was unable to continue his match with Bennett and was rushed to a local hospital. As of yesterday BJ was doing much better and is scheduled for an MRI today. BJ is a true warrior and was overwhelmed by the support of the fans and his fellow wrestlers. We will continue to have updates on BJ's condition and wish him a speedy recovery.

- Last Saturday we once again crowned BRAND NEW ROH World Tag Team Champions in The American Wolves of Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards! The Wolves defeated The Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov) in the main event to once again become ROH Tag Champions! The tag division is proving to be the most competitive it has ever been and now Davey & Eddie will head into NYC to defend those championships against the men who lost them to The Hooligans in the first place, reDRagon! The Wolves & reDRagon have split a pair of bouts in NYC (Final Battle 2012 & Supercard of Honor VII) and now the rubber match will go down as part of “Manhattan Mayhem V” on Saturday night, August 17th at the Manhattan Center in New York City! - Prince Nana's role at "Manhattan Mayhem V" is getting quite the buzz. - As a result of BJ Whitmer not being able to continue the match in Toronto, at "Manhattan Mayhem V" on August 17th, it will be Michael Bennett versus "The Sicilian Psychopath" Tommaso Ciampa in, not only a Quarter-Final tournament bout, but also in their first one-on-one meeting in Ring of Honor. Given the importance of the tournament, Maria Kanellis is banned from ringside in order to ensure no outside interference.

I assume whoever is the new champion will have to face Jay at some point and probably win. I always hated the booking of someone being unbeatable as champion only to lose it like Jay did then come back and just lose to the new champ. However, I guess it wouldn't make much sense to have whoever the new champion is just simply win a tournament only to drop it back to the stripped champion.

MANHATTAN MAYHEM V UPDATE!
Two new matches signed and more....



THIS Saturday night Ring of Honor returns to New York City & The Hammerstein Ballroom for “Manhattan Mayhem V”!!! Featuring Quarter-Final match-ups in the World Title tournament, a first time ever dream tag match, and a World Tag Team Title Grudge Match, ROHWrestling.com has now confirmed TWO additional matches for the evening's festivities including one that was first announced via social media over the weekend!

First up,

Scramble Rules Tag Team Match
C&C Wrestle Factory (Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander) vs. Adrenaline RUSH (ACH & Tadarius Thomas)

Two of the most exciting tag teams on the scene right now, C&C and AR will lock horns in a Scramble Rules bout which means no tags are necessary and as soon as one man exits the ring then his partner can enter! In their last two-on-two meeting at “Border Wars 2013” it was C&C who emerged victorious but at “All Star Extravaganza V” in their triple threat bout with The Young Bucks, it was RUSH who picked up the victory when ACH pinned Cedric. With Scramble Rules in effect you know this one will get crazy!

World TV Champion Matt Taven vs. “No Fear” Mike Mondo
***If Mondo either defeats Taven, or lasts the time limit, he will earn a future TV Title bout***

He hasn't been seen in an ROH ring since just prior to “Border Wars 2013” when he had to pull out of a scheduled Triple Threat bout with Mike Bennett and Roderick Strong due to a training injury. Now, this Saturday at “MM V”, Mike Mondo will make his return to Ring of Honor and will face off with a man with whom he is very familiar: World TV Champion Matt Taven!

The early stages of each man's ROH career are quite intertwined as Taven & Mondo developed quite a rivalry in the early months of 2012 that culminated in quite a barnburner of a bout on the April 7th edition of “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV. Now that rivalry will be renewed on August 17th when the World TV Champion goes head-to-head with “No Fear” in NYC with Mondo hoping to earn himself a TV Title Match!

We have also been informed that taking up commentary duties for the matches on Saturday night will be Kevin Kelly & the returning Prince Nana! Speaking of Nana, we have also been informed by RD Evans that he and QT Marshall will be in NYC to address the tag team division...

With those two bouts announced, the card for “Manhattan Mayhem V” is complete and here is what we have in store for you THIS Saturday night in New York City!
