www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=77617With the company about to hire an influx of new developmental talents to coincide with the opening of the company's Performance Center in Florida, several talents in the NXT/developmental system were released today. PWInsider.com has confirmed that Derek Bateman and Briley Pierce have been released. Bateman was seen on the final season of NXT before it morphed into the current incarnation of the series filmed in Florida. He was signed in 2007 and had been in the system for a long time. Pierce is Ryan Nemeth, aka the younger brother of World champion Dolph Ziggler. On Twitter, he quipped, "I guarantee you that was the funniest and most entertaining "you're released" phone call in history." He had been signed to developmental in 2011. Expect additional names to come out as there had been a fear of a major blood-letting among talents for months. The list so far: Derrick Bateman Briley Pierce Sakamoto Audrey Marie Brandon Traven Percy Watson Anya

can't say I'm completely surprised. you can't expect them to give all the *shudder* indy darlings they've been signing jobs without having to let some people go.
pity they won't let go of some of the over-clogged stale-as-hell main eventers while they're at it (Orton, Miz and Swagger I'm looking at you)

Sorry, I can see what you're saying but what you just said was silly.

They better not let Xavier Woods go. I'm not worried about a handful of them (Ohno, Harper, Wyatt etc) as they seem interested in them, but Woods has been in developmental for a long time and they have shown no interest even though he is a great talent. If I was him I would find the nearest rock and hide behind it. The one that JTG uses works....

Orton is very over, yeah, but he just comes off to me as a guy they could cut and have it make zero impact on the product. if he's just going to sit there doing a whole wad of nothing and beat guys he should be putting over with no endgame in sight they should just cut him loose. he's not necessarily the biggest stale main eventer but he still sticks out like a sore thumb. there are other guys who they could get rid of first, but WWE in general is just way too top-heavy, especially when half of them aren't as over as your average mid-carder and the company never has anything for them to do.

Probably should just combine this into one thread, so it'd be easier to keep track of all the releases.

I agree with you. I think if WWE cut some of it's "main eventers", it would solve more problems. Although people tend to write off the majority of the low card whenever the subject of releases come up, cutting a lot of the low level guys won't really do much. You get rid of most of the low level guys, then some of the remaining guys will see their statuses downgraded once it's time to put over all the new callups. Someone like Cody Rhodes might get stuck jobbing a bit more often. Guys like Zack Ryder would never get a chance to get pushed because there'd be no one around to relieve him of jobbing duties.

Releasing Orton may not have much impact on WWE, but he certainly would be a great asset to anyone else at this point. It's not going to tip the scales by any means, but let's not assume that he would just disappear. Although if WWE ever did release him, I could see him easily just going home, as opposed to working elsewhere.
