I actually burst out in the theater when everyone started applauding the {Spoiler}{Spoiler}final death blow atomic breath/decapitation.
I mean it's cool that people were into it and I enjoyed the movie for what it was, but the applause caught me off guard. Did this happen for anyone else?

MUTOs had a serious Gyos vibe to them. Loved it. Gyos?? godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/GyaosBesides Gyaos, I also got an Orga vibe from the MUTOs. Might go see it again tomorrow and I'm going to see again it Sunday with a friend.

This is an example of why I think movies today have more thought and effort put into them than in the 80s and 90s. Today, you'd never have the 1998 Godzilla be thrown out the way it was. Or say what you want about the Friday The 13th Remake, but you'd never have the utter horseshit was the later FT13TH sequels be tossed out. There has to be SOME degree of effort today. Maybe its due to the internet and word of mouth...

I only had a couple of problems with the movie, one being that I couldn't really connect with Ford and the other being kaiju design. I'm not saying there was anything wrong with them per say but I think they were just a bit of a letdown. The head design was reminiscent of Gyaos for both while the male design gave me some Rodan vibes. Then you've got the issue of clear anatomical similarities to the Cloverfield monster in both. However, the design for Godzilla was spot on and I like how they made his fighting style similar to a bear instead of "stand around and throw shit" like what the Heisei/Millennium started getting to. I really loved how Atomic Breath is once again reserved for those special times when he can't just physically overwhelm his opponent.
8/10, will buy on blu ray and see the sequel.

Too much humans, but not as obnoxiously so as the Transformers franchise. The monster fight left me wanting more. But real biggest markout: THEY USED A DUSTY SPRINGFIELD SONG IN THE SOUNDTRACK. "Dusty Springfield" now sounds like a sexual term, like a Cleveland steamer or dirty sanchez. Oh she was sexy all right, love the days when singers could be so with their words only. (Not that I mind some of the costumes and bodies today...)

I thought this was a documentary on all the modes of transportation available in society until the last half hour when it turned into a decent monster movie. Who were the actors that played the young couple? EDIT: Nevermind, I looked them up...it was Joe and Jen Neric. It would have been AWESOME if at the end... {Spoiler}When Godzilla goes down, he and Ford Brody(!?) have that moment of eye contact, Godzilla said "Earn this."

I have to say that I had a blast seeing this. I enjoyed it a lot that I am thinking about going again except watching it in 3D this time.

It's a Godzilla movie so what I loved is, true to form, they kept the parts that are supposed to suck ... sucky. That is, characters are awful, but it was throwback awful, so I "get it."
Also, I didn't want Godzilla thrown in my face. Perfect UNDERuse of the main attraction.
Pacing of the monster stuff=fantastic.
Mostly, I like that it gave me a chance to forgive its true-to-form crappiness rather than trying to make it into a movie it shouldn't have been. It's a movie that knows what it is. And that's why it's a great monster movie. Great execution.
If you don't like monster movies, fair enough. It wasn't really made to win those folks over, it didn't seem. I like that.

The only tease that I thought was really contrived was the shutting of the shelter door. About to see the monsters fight in broad daylight, then NOOOOOOPE.

I saw it earlier today, and I liked it. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}- The opening redacted credits were f***ing awesome.
- Yeah, the MUTOs were the Cloverfield monster, but at least we got to see them wreck shit, and get more than 5 minutes of screentime.
- Both fatalities on the MUTOs were great.

So Legendary doesn't have the rights to the classic villain monsters? That's interesting and kinda explains the use of the MUTOS.

I saw it earlier today in IMAX 3D and it was beautiful. It was one of the most refreshing movie experiences of my life, to finally see a good Godzilla movie on the big screen.

I was like a proud dad "THEY'RE REALLY DOING IT!!" I totally agree with you. For me, I've wanted this movie for 25 years since I saw Godzilla vs. King Kong when I was 4 years old. If I can make the time I'm going to see it at least two more times in theaters.
