This is the same guy who is so dead set against Ole Anderson being inducted into his "hall of fame". His opinion is invalid. A select group of people vote on who goes into the Hall of Fame. Sure Meltzer picks them, but people have voted wrestlers in that Dave's disagreed with in the past. It just suggests that in the lifetime of the HOF, no-one's made a convincing case to vote Ole Anderson in. In my personal view, he was a good, solid wrestler who had his fair share of main events, but he didn't quite have the spark to have himself a Hall of Fame career.

For a woman, the divas/womans title is the highest honor they can get. No, that's Playboy.

No shut up, no one cares. That's why this thread is just five pages of no one caring. You could cut the apathy with a knife.

The least-convincing part of this article is Meltzer trying to pretend Bret Hart isn't a whiny diva who takes his fake wins/losses much too seriously.

I respect Dave's work with the Observer Newsletter (he's by far the most credible journalist in pro wrestling), but he's always had his favorites and not-so favorites.
And I think Meltzer's a bit biased against AJ Lee for some reason.
I've noticed that he gives her alot less credit when she does something phenomenal like that promo on RAW a couple of weeks ago (or her commentary last night) than most other wrestling journalists.
And sadly, he's probably right about how the bosses at WWE think of people being "belt marks".

Oh, and however much he or anyone else says this isn't about gender, it probably is. I do have the feeling plenty of people backstage at WWE still consider all the divas to be glorified ring rats (hell, Rollins made comments on twitter, while already employed in WWE developmental, that he considered all female wrestling fans ring rats, period, and it hasn't slowed down his career at all), such that it doesn't surprise me at all that there'd be additional layers of contempt for a female wrestler who gets emotionally invested in her kayfabe accomplishments.

Why believe that Meltzer is lying or wrong about this (meaning the backstage attitude regarding lower-card belts)? Like, what differentiates it from all the other shit he says that gets posted on this board? He committed the unforgivable sin of going against board view.

Like, I get what Meltzer is saying. Marks in wrestling definitely are a real thing (Hey Bret Hart, how ya doing?)but just getting a tattoo to symbolize what is obviously a big moment in your life? I don't see how that's worth mocking. Now, if she starts screaming how she can't lose in certain towns because she's "so totally over" there, then yeah, it becomes an issue. The tattoo by itself, however, isn't even worth mentioning.

Meltzer can't see the forest for the trees here. If you can't enjoy the highlight of your character's story, what can you enjoy?
Believe or not, some wrestlers are not in it for the money. They're in it for the moments.

ALthough I will say, I crack up every time that one of these threads rolls around and people say "SHUT THE f*** UP, MELTZER! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!!" Like, really? Is that an appropriate reaction? He's giving his opinion just like you and I do. Feel free to disagree with it but keep in mind that for a guy who doesn't know shit, he's been dissecting wrestling longer than some of the people in this thread have been alive.

You know what would make her a belt mark?
Getting the dates of all her title wins tattooed on her. Commemorating the date she reached her lifelong goal is perfectly acceptable.

Someone says something negative about AJ. 3 hours later, 4 pages of intense debate. Never Change FAN. If only we could harness this power for a much funnier purpose. Like TODD over in the Wrest of WRestling Section. Honestly, I don't care about AJ that much. I just think the idea of an employer mocking his employees for loving his or her job is messed up. I know wrestling culture is weird to put it mildly, but like, really?

I'm really counting down the hours until "Oh you're just saying that because it's AJ" disappears forever. It's even more grating than "Oh you're just saying that because it's CM Punk" used to be, and I didn't even think that was possible.

Imagine, running a business, or just working for a company and one of your coworkers/employees just tend to love it a bit too much. Living in Southern California, I have one or two friends who are pretty much psychotic about Disneyland. One of them used to work there (until he got fired for reasons he will not pubilicly admit). He left bitterly, yet still goes on and on about the virtues of Disnely and continually goes there every couple of days. I can imagine working with this guy, and their coworkers and bosses go "dude, calm down. You're here every day. After all the nonsense you've seen, this place shouldn't still be so magical. How old are you?".
