Now I'm not trolling here but when has being athletic equate to being a very good wrestler? I mean there is more to wrestling then just doing some flips. To say Naomi is better then AJ just cause she does more flips than her. We really haven't seen Naomi have a lengthy singles match where she told a story in the ring, gets the crowd engaged in the match and makes her opponent look good in the ring. It's not her fault of course, but you can't say it's a fact that Naomi is better then AJ when she hasn't had a big match so we can see her other skills in the ring other then her flips. Is it possible that Naomi is better then AJ in the ring? Sure, it's just an unknown now. I remember one really good match Naomi had on NXT 3, against this tiny brunette chick...

Yea I know it was a good match, but that doesn't really pertain to my point. If I recall correctly there was no story in that match other then hey lets have a good match which, while nothing wrong with that, hasn't prove to me that she can really tell a an effective story in the ring. I know it's not her fault she hasn't been given a real storyline and lengthy singles match to show off all her skills. And I will note that I'm not saying Naomi is a bad wrestler and I'm actually a big fan of hers. I just think it's odd to say she's clearly better then AJ when they have different strengths. While AJ has shown the ability to tell story in the ring and sell for her opponent well, Naomi has the advantage in pure athletic ability to wow the crowd. I think they are roughly equal but I give the edge to AJ since she has shown to have the ability to have a good match in a big ppv match while Naomi hasn't been given the chance.

I was actually joking and somewhat helping make your point. Naomi's best match in WWE was with AJ 2 years ago, so it's hard to say that Naomi is better or even as good as AJ because we haven't seen it yet. AJ's match with Kaitlyn at Payback was AJ's best so far, because of the strength of the promos in the build-up, her selling, their chemistry, etc. Naomi can come in on a hot tag and do some awesome stuff, that's what athleticism will get you. The rest of the package remains to be seen.

If that's a true sentiment that still holds on to this day, that's really f***ing dumb. It's like making fun of your employees for being emotionally invested in the product they are a part of. It's like making fun of an actor who gets a tattoo of a role they really enjoyed(not something that's likely to happen since they change roles too often for tattoos to be a good idea, but you get the point). Didn't eight of the nine *LOTR* castmembers get their numbers tattooed in Elvish on their wrists?

I feel that the whole "athletic" stuff is a blessing and curse for Naomi. Obviously she is incredibly athletic but she's getting written off by some people as "just athletic".
She won me over in FCW when she had a great match with Serena in the Divas title finals. That match had fire and a brief storyline behind it (Serena cut Naomi's hair the previous week) and told a story (Serena working the arm which Naomi continued to sell after the bell) and that was when Naomi had only been wrestling a few months.
She hasn't had much opportunity to really show what she can do on the main roster, and most of her action has focused on her highspots in tag matches and the like (which makes sense because she can do stuff in the ring very few women can), but she did have good longer matches with Nattie on Superstars and AJ on Main Event that show she's not just about athleticism and can work a match.
I wouldn't feel comfortable saying she's a better wrestler than AJ, as AJ has had much bigger and better opportunities to show off her skills on the main shows, but she's a really solid talent that I think they've only scratched the surface of.

"Pure" as opposed to what? www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKt7DANu3sgCause yeah, he could do sick things in the ring but nobody is ever gonna call Jeff Hardy a 'pure athlete' I'mma guess it means more backstage than that "natural sports genius" line Alex Riley sold on Main Event commentary...

AJ needs to hold the title for another 123 days to become the longest reigning Divas Champion ever and the longest reigning female champion in WWE since the Women's Championship was reactivated in 1998.
WWE, make it happen! It's only another four months.

You know what term really needs to stop? "Pure Athlete." "Pure" as opposed to what? Coincidentally... Has anyone that was called that regularly gone on to any major singles success... The two of the top of my head I can think of are Billy Gunn and Shelton Benjamin, who were seemingly more memorable/successful as half of a tag team.

Pure athlete is what they say when they can't think of anything else to say.

I don't care for tattoos myself. But if her way of expressing her happiness for having achieved that status, than good for her. I get Meltzer's argument and it is true. That logic has been round the biz for a long time. But in the end in this case, I do not see the harm nor do I think this makes her a "belt mark".
AJ Lee is as over as a woman's wrestler has ever been. Her role was made pretty prominent last yr with the whole GM deal andbeing window dressing on the main event. She carried it off well.

All I have to say about this is that Meltzer is a f***in' nerd and he needs to do a little more with his time rather than bash kids who grew up as marks and are now living their dreams and see winning a title as a huge honor. To even write up this story is a load of shit.

Battleground: Natalya Hell In A Cell: Naomi Survivor Series: Total Divas vs. "Real" Divas TLC: Brie It could work... Of course, I'd have the end of the reign happen via Paige debuting and winning the title... As a heel.
