The thread about surprising wrestler success mentioned the Hardcore Holly vs. Brock Lesnar title match and I was thinking... has there ever been a more obvious title match result than that?
I mean, by early 2004, Brock Lesnar had beaten everyone there is to beat. Kurt Angle, RVD, he virtually killed Hulk Hogan, he beat The Rock. What chance did Hardcore Holly HAVE? I'm not saying I don't understand why Holly was put in that match (the feud wrote itself) but how the f*** could Holly have been a credible challenger in that match?
The only one I can think of where the result was as obvious was Rock/Cena from this year's Mania, but even then, we all claimed the result was obvious the first year round too and then Rock beat him, so there was still the tiniest germ of doubt in my brain. I never for a second thought Hardcore would beat Lesnar.

Edge vs Rey Mysterio, No way out 2008. It was clear as day they were setting up Edge vs Taker.
JBL VS Beeg Show No way out 2005. Once Cena won the number 1 contender spot, it was obvious they were setting up the JBL/Cena program for Mania.

Kane Vs Steve Austin in a first blood match, if Kane lost he'd set himself on fire and die.
Masked man with 95% of his body covered in a FIRST BLOOD match where he'd have to commit suicide if he lost.
Nothing tops that.

Ric Flair vs. Triple H at Taboo Tuesday 2005 was for the Intercontinental Championship but their rematch at Survivor Series wasn't. Pretty obvious who was winning on both of those nights.

The results of Cena defending the WWE Title against a soon departing Batista at Extreme Rules and Over the Limit never really seemed to be in question.

Ric Flair vs. Triple H at Taboo Tuesday 2005 was for the Intercontinental Championship but their rematch at Survivor Series wasn't. Pretty obvious who was winning on both of those nights. If a champion is in a PPV match and the title isn't on the line, you KNOW the other guy is winning. Example - Matt Hardy (ECW Champion) vs. Vladimir Kozlov in a non-title match at Armageddon 2008. Same goes for Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow at SummerSlam this year when the MITB Briefcase wasn't on the line.

Pretty much any WrestleMania title match involving The Undertaker. I don't know, I remember reading people thought Edge/Batista had at least a decent shot at it.

John Cena vs. {Name of opponent} I think thats revsionist history the whole "Super Cena" thing, there were a lot of times where it felt like Cena would lose the title during that run againt Edge and Umaga for example. Also I'm legitimately listening to your podcast with JuRY, good stuff <>

While you're right about Kane setting himself on fire, it was never stated that he'd have to kill himself if he lost. Still a pretty obvious result Triple H beating Jericho at WM 18 couldn't be more obvious and is probably the reason the crow didn't give two shits about it(that and it was after Rock vs. Hogan).
