Comparing Goldberg to Mozart offends me personally. Lol, yeah, I can get behind that.

If HHH was the face of the company, WWE would have been dead before Edge, Jericho, RVD, Bryan, or any of those guys had ever showed up.

I don't know how any of them would be working for Turner. They'd have been working for Jamie Kellner for a few months, and then the plug would've been pulled immediately.

Looking past the fact it was just kayfabe, it's not like it was that great an insult towards those guys. Neither Edge, Jericho, or RVD ever had problems getting over with crowds and they always get reactions when they come back. I really doubt WWE would've died if any of them were a top guy at the time.

The thing that was really offensive about the promo was mentioning Ted Turner. He should of said Dixie Carter but no he had to bury TNA

I totally don't understand the "Triple H is berrying Bryan and Jericho and RVD" vibe.
He's a heel attacking popular wrestlers verbally, talking them down to get a heel reaction. That's something heels often do.
I don't see "the WWE universe takes everything Hunter says as gospel and if he says a wrestler is a B-plus or that that wrestler is popular but not good enough to carry the company then I need to reassess my opinion and come around to his way of thinking" reaction.
I mean, how is it any different than Jericho, in his Y2J debut promo, saying everyone on the roster was uninteresting, untalented and mediocre -- including the Rock specifically? Yes, Jericho's character was much different than HHH's, as HHH is an authority figure speaking seriously, but onscreen right now he's a HEEL authority figure and I think the audience is savvy enough not to say "Well, Hunter says these guys don't cut it so that must be true." Instead, they boo him, because he's a heel cutting a heel promo.

I know. It's almost as if the heel is a lying bastard. But that could never be the case.

So to surmise the thread's progress so far:
- What Triple H said may have had a ring of his own alleged personal vendettas, but was also quite clearly heelin' it up to try and work people, which has been remarkably successful. - However, what it hasn't done - and so has failed as a work, really - is made anyone want to buy the pay-per-view the promo was related to.
Shall we move on?

I think I need that Punk gif where he mimes hooking someone like a fish.
I don't know why Meltzer still gets triggered by HHH's routine after all this time (and even longer for Dave himself in the business).

There's a lot of people who weren't "passionate" about the business. How do you even measure passion? Do you have to come into the Gorilla position crying like a baby after every match? So I guess you aren't passionate if you don't go out there for 30 years and bust your ass. Goldberg was never a great wrestler, but I don't ever recall him giving less than 100% in the ring. Intensity goes a long ways, which is why a lot of people liked him. I did not. Heenan even stated if you're in this business for anything other than money, then you're an idiot. Goldberg, whether he was passionate or not, had a lot more fans during the peak of his career than Triple H did. At the end of the day, all the matters is the support you get. Chris Benoit had passion. look how that ended. I actually think it's hilarious when guys like Goldberg or Warrior are only in it for the money, get paid and take off with their health and money in tact and Vince/Trips/whoever is left holding the bag and crying like a kid who got bamboozled by an older kid for the first time. apparently taking advantage of someone's only okay if you're the one signing the cheques.

I think one of the more insulting things about Meltzer is that he acts like guys like Edge and Jericho and RVD, guys who have been around this business for so many decades are going to be upset by something a heel says in an angle. It's like he thinks these guys are going to see it and think Triple H is legit shooting and they'll take something said for the purposes of an angle seriously. Not only that but all three are known for being pretty chill most of the time too.

It's heel heat. Both of them know what that is.
